Chapter 30: Decision Made fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

I must have said the words out loud because all of a sudden, there was silence around me.

"Mmm, jumping clown," I repeated, making my voice sound soft and sleepy.

"So cute," sighed Max, as he nuzzled my forehead with his nose. "Talkin’ in ’er sleep like that. Now, Niblet, no dreamin’ of clowns. Yous dream of your Max, ye ’ear me?"

Letting out a soft moan, I called out Max’s name, like he managed to change my dreams. However, his name let me picture exactly what he was seeing, and I went with it. Anything was better than being in my head at the moment.

The creature deep inside me was awake at the moment and looking for a way out. Refusing to even acknowledge its existence, I focused on what was going on around me.

We were walking down an abandoned street, cars, buses, and bikes scattered around the surface as Max weaved us in and out of traffic. The atmosphere around us was creepy. There was no chirping of insects, no birds calling out to the sun, nothing.

It was so silent that I worried for a second that I might have lost my hearing for some reason.

But even if my hearing wasn’t working, I didn’t need that or my sight to know that we were being watched from multiple locations. The eyes didn’t feel threatening, but that wasn’t exactly a comfort at the moment.

Fighting down the feeling of panic starting to bubble in my chest, I buried my nose in the crook of Max’s neck, taking in his scent. Panic and fear right now was definitely not a good thing.

After a few breaths, I felt myself calm down, and the creature settled, going back to sleep until the next time something disturbed it.

"It’s imperative that you set up a safe haven right now," interjected Alicia, breaking through the silence. I was surprised that she didn’t seem to feel the eyes on us, but maybe she already knew they were here and just didn’t care. "People need to know that there is a place where they can go that they won’t be attacked."

"If I be a bettin’ man," chuckled Luca, "I be assumin’ that people be goin’ to the police station before thinkin’ about a military base days away."

I had to admit, he did have a point. Whenever something happened, a person’s first instinct was to go to the police and get them to sort it out.

Hells, even I knew about the police, but I never knew there was a government base so close by.

"The police station won’t be big enough, nor will it have any sort of barriers around to keep the zombies out," reasoned Alicia as we continued to walk down the street.

From Max’s point of view, I could see us passing all sorts of stores that might be useful for something. Shoe stores, convenience stores, home stores, and even a few clothing stores were completely disregarded by everyone around me.

Hell, even if they didn’t want bed sheets, you would think they would veer toward the pharmacies. Maybe it was just because I was so accident prone that I felt safer with band-aids on me, but I really thought that Alicia would want to hit them up.

A zombie apocalypse didn’t seem all that conducive to good hygiene. You wouldn’t even know how you died if you got an infected cut or something.

Why weren’t people rushing to raid them? There was no one around, and you never knew what could prove to be useful in the future.

"Maybe try a generic wish," suggested Envy, his voice practically a purr in my head. "Wish to completely empty every building within 50 feet of you. That way, everything will be put in Teddy for you to go through later."

Pride let out a scoff at Envy’s suggestion, and I felt bad about being excited for it. "You just want everyone to envy her for having more supplies than could be used in ten lifetimes."

"Actually, Envy has a point. If she doesn’t have to worry or think about collecting supplies, then it would be even better for her. She wouldn’t accidentally run out at an inopportune time. I agree with Envy. Besides, we’ll be keeping her around for more than ten lifetimes, so there is no such thing as too many supplies." Greed’s voice broke no-nonsense, and I could feel Pride nodding his head.

"I wish to completely empty every building within 50 feet of me..." I trailed off, remembering the demons’ advice before about being specific. "... of usable supplies, and any hospital that I get within 30 football fields of."

With all my luck, if I said that I wished for everything inside of a building, I would probably end up with zombies inside Teddy, and I didn’t think that he wanted that.

Nodding my head, I smirked to myself, completely forgetting that I was pretending to be asleep. I felt the supplies entering into Teddy and organizing themselves in appropriate places without me having to do any work.

Now, I didn’t have to worry about tripping and scraping my knee. Not like the guys seemed to be keen to have me walking on my own, but you never knew.

Band-aids were important.

"If yous be goin’ to pretend to be asleep, yous gonna ’ave to work ’arder," whispered Max into my ear, and I buried my face even deeper into his neck, ignoring his chuckle. "Yous seem ’appy. Do yous wanna go to the Station or the Base? Yous can be our deciding vote. Not like six again’ two donna work."

Oh no, this was exactly what I was trying to avoid! I didn’t want a say so that I couldn’t get in trouble! Stupid Max, in what world did six not win against two?!?

Pinching his chest, I ignored the blush on my cheeks.

"Were going past the station anyways," growled Ronan. "It’s not like it would be out of our way. I’m sure we could also use the guns and bullets stored there."

There was a series of grunts, and I guess the decision had been made.
