After Divorce, Billionaire Ex Found Me Pregnant-Chapter 222 Special - : #8
Chapter 222: Chapter 222 Special Chapter: #8
“What?” Anastasia blinked in surprise after hearing what Logan had said. “He didn’t request for any money?”
“Yes. As a matter of fact, it seemed like he was doing it not out of crude or hatred, but rather obligation. At first I thought something was wrong, I tried refusing it, trust me, but he insist and before I knew it, that bastard had dumped the concept and vanished.”
Anastasia brows knitted together more. This wasn’t at all in the file that Kareem had given her. In fact, going back to what he had told her when briefing her about the case, he said the employee’s motive for selling the concepts was because they had gotten fired and had a personal grudge against the company.
But that wasn’t the case, at least not from both sides.
“And did you tell your attorney this or-“
“Yes, I have. I even explained the whole goddamn thing to Riley when his lawyer dropped by yesterday, but he refused to listen. He thinks I’m covering for the employee.” Logan sighed. “Look, I’m telling you the truth, you don’t have to believe me, but please, convince the company and especially him, that I had no involvement in stealing their concept.”
“I apologize Mr. King, for I cannot assure you of anything.” Anastasia responded confidently as even now, even she didn’t know what to make of the case.
It had suddenly become so complicated.
Was this why they offered her 500 thousand dollars? Because they knew no other lawyer in the city would deal with this bullshit case?
Clever.
“Uh, this isn’t going to end good for my company.” Logan grumbled before hanging up the phone leaving Anastasia ti stare at the wall in confusion.
What exactly was she meant to make of this case and how exactly was she meant to go around it?
It seemed complicated, no, it was complicated, but nothing too difficult for her.
She was Norway’s best lawyer, after all.
After staring at the case file, soaking in most of what she felt like were important and most remember details, Anastasia came to a decision on how to go around the case.
First, she needed to identify the employee that had sold the information. She couldn’t chase a fly wouldn’t knowing what it looked like.
Grabbing the intercom on her desk, she buzzed her assistant and in seconds, Katherine was walking through the door.
“Yes Ms. Johansson? What is it you need?”
“L.R Co employment records. Get me a copy of the current one and a copy of the ones who were fired before the time the concept was stolen.”
Katherine nodded. “Got it. Will be back shortly.” She said and rushed out of the office.
Once she was gone, Anastasia went to the website of the company opposite Lynks and contacted their security team.
If she’s lucky enough, one of the cameras present would have captured the face of the man when he met with Logan and with the records, she can pair them and find her culprit.
“Hi, this is Anastasia Johansson from Cheo-sang law firm. I’m handling a case regarding a stolen concept and your company happens to stand as a useful piece of the case, so I was wondering if I could come down and view your security camera’s footage. You see, the man who sold the concept had visited the company opposite yours, Lynks and the camera of your company might have recorded his face.” She paused as she listened to what the security team said, a smile spreading across her lips seconds later as she got the answer she wanted. “Alright, I’ll be done shortly.”
Once she hung up, Anastasia slumped back into her chair, sighing heavily.
There was a lot of work to be done, but she was certain, she would get this job done in no time, receive her check and finally be free of Lloyd’s grip.
The ideal life...
Yet the last part of the plan wasn’t sounding so ideal.
What the hell was wrong with her? Had she suddenly grown attached to Lloyd because of simple sex?
No.
That wasn’t possible because it wasn’t like her to do such a thing.
But, what if she had already gotten attached even before the sex...
Wouldn’t that explain why she felt angry and offended when she heard what those ladies had said during her date with Lloyd?
That would explain the butterflies she felt and the constant feeling of wanting to run away from him, right?
“Here’s the files you asked for, Ms. Johansson.” Katherine’s voice brought her out of her thoughts as the assistant knocked on the door and stepped in, carrying a large pile of papers in her hand. “Will that be all?”
“Yes, that’s all.” Anastasia answered and waited for her to leave before her attention returned to the papers in front of her.
“Alright, let’s get this done.” She muttered and reached for the first file. freēwēbnovel.com
An hour later, she was already half way through the list of fired employees and had memorized all their faces in case she saw it in the CCTV footage.
The process was going pretty well, that was until Anastasia opened the third last file and she glanced at the clock and realized that she needed to head down to Danco if she wanted to view the security footage.
Sighing, she slammed the file close, shoved it into her drawer, picked her coat and headed out the door.
“Katherine, hold the meetings, I’ll be back in an hour.” She said not bothering to look back at her assistant’s reaction as she walked out the building and into her car, setting the GPS location for Danco, the company opposite Lynks.
The ride was quick and before she knew it, she was walking into the company, her ID card held out so that she could show the receptionist.
“I’m Ms. Johansson. I made an appointment with the security team. They’re expecting me.”
The young lady who sat behind the receptionist, smiled and nodded, turning to her system to type in a few words before she pressed a button and allowing her access. “They’re waiting for you, Miss. Please take the elevator down to the basement floor, someone will be there to meet you.”
“Thanks.”
The walk to the elevator was silent and as the doors closed and the elevator started descending, Anastasia began to ponder the next phase of her plan.
After finding the person, she needed to contact him and have him explain the situation or at least agree to testify against Lynks in court, or in worst case scenario, if he wasn’t willing to do either and Logan was indeed as innocent as he sounded, then the dude would just have to pay a fine and sever his sentence.
But if she’s lucky enough, which she usually was, the employee would testify against Lynks and Logan and that would be the end of the case.
The elevator stopped and the door opened, and just like the receptionist had said, a middle age man was there to greet her, a small smile on his face.
“You must be Ms. Johansson. I’m Mark, head of security at Danco.” He introduced and extended his hand for her to shake.
“It’s a pleasure meeting you, Mr. Mark.” She responded as she shook his hand.
“Please, follow me.”
“Of course.”
The two walked in silence and soon they had arrived at the security room.
“Alright, so what CCTV footage would you like to see?”
Anastasia told him the day it had happening, as per given by Kareem, and watched his scroll through the CCTV records.
“Aha. Here.” He said, pressing play on the record.
Anastasia watched carefully, taking mental note of everything.
The guy which had walked in, dressed in a hoodie from head to toe while trying to avoid the cameras and then as he met up with Logan.
Everything seemed just as she expected and nothing turned out to be useful because in the end, she couldn’t see his face.
Sighing, she decided to do the only thing she could. “Can I have a copy of this footage?”
“Sure.” Mark nodded his head and went to retrieve an empty Disk to burn the information into.
While he was gone, Anastasia watched the remaining of the video play out and just as she was about to conclude that the remaining lengths were useless, a black sport car pulled up from across the street in the CCTV footage and Anastasia’s eyes widened because she knew that car.
It belonged to Lloyd.
As the ‘employee’ who had stepped out of the building, jogged up to the car and entered, Anastasia’s presumption was correct and she was able to see his face.
Her gaze darkened and she muttered. “Just what the hell are you playing at Lloyd Riley?”
