Chapter 221: Chapter 221 Special Chapter: #7

Anastasia sat in the chair farest from Lloyd, listening to all his assistant had decided to tell her about the situation.

Yes, she had accepted the job. Why? Well it was simple, the pay. The money that was offered for her to handle this case was more than enough to buy her a whole island.

Who was she to turn down such an opportunity. Most definitely not her and most definitely not because of someone name Lloyd Riley.

“And that is the case.” Kareem concluded.

“I see.” Anastasia hummed, nodding her head in the process. From all she had heard, learnt and was able to gather, the situation on ground had come about because of an employee who had stolen confidential files from the company and took it to a rivalry company, selling it off.

But the rivaling company, either they were not smart enough to change the concept of what had been sold to them or that they purposely wanted to rub the fact that they had gotten hands on L.R co’s latest concept.

Either way, it was a stupid move and Anastasia had to agree that whoever had thought this would work, had obviously failed to realize the repercussions.

“I understand the situation at hand. Handling it would be quite easy.” She said and for the first time since the meeting, she looked in Lloyd’s direction, surprised to see him staring straight at her.

He didn’t say a thing, but the intense gaze he had on her was enough to say it all and before long, she rushed to break the eye contact.

Clearing her throat, she moved her gaze else where, wondering if she had made the right choice by choosing to take the case on.

God, what happened to being fair, she thought as she shifted uncomfortably in her seat. Offering me so much money and letting Lloyd be the punishment, she bit her lip down. It was too brutal.

While she was having the little internal conflict, Lloyd watched her, a little smile tugging at the corner of his lips.

Her reaction was cute, adorable, just like how he had expected it.

"Well this is good. Really great." Kareem clapped his hands with a pleased smile on his face, the sound was enough to draw both Lloyd and Anastasia’s attention. "We’ll take your word for it, Anastasia."

"Of course." She agreed and stood up, followed by Kareem who also stood up and extended his hand. "I look forward to working with you, Mr. Kareem."

"Same." The assistant responded. He was about to say something else when his phone suddenly began ringing, the tune disrupting the peaceful flow of the entire room. "Please excuse, let me take this." He said, chuckling awkwardly as he reached for the device.

With a simple nod from Lloyd, he rushed out of the room, leaving Anastasia and Lloyd alone. The former was quick to try and gather up the materials she had used for the meeting, but the sound of Lloyd’s voice stopped her.

"You blocked me, on everywhere. Phone and social media." He stated the obvious, and Anastasia sighed. She could do without the conversation, really, especially if the conversation was going to be about what had happened between them.

"Yeah, I did." She nonchalantly answered, not sparing him a glance.

Lloyd stood up and began approaching her. "Isn’t that a bit heartless, considering all we did...and my feelings?"

"Feelings?" Anastasia barked a laugh. "Yeah right." Stuffing the last of the case materials into her briefcase, she turned around, ready to leave, but gasping in surprise when Lloyd turned out to be closer than she had expected. "You-"

"Aren’t you being a bit harsh?" He placed his hand on both sides of the table and leaned in, caging her in. "Throwing me away after having sex with me? And even paying me?" Disappointment flashed in his eyes as he continued to stare into hers. "Shouldn’t you at least take responsibility?"

Her actions were harsh? And she needed to take responsibility? Anastasia scoffed internally at his words.

Did he stand here uttering these words when aware that his other bed partners felt the exact same way?

Well, that was none of her business. She had achieved what she wanted, now it was for him to sort himself out.

"Don’t you think you’re acting a bit ridiculous?" She said and tried to break out of the cage she had been put in, but Lloyd’s arms were more sturdy than she expected.

She glared at him. “I’m not the only woman you’ve slept with and You’re not the only man I’ve slept with, Riley. So please, spare me the feelings part. All that you’re feeling is probably nothing more than an aftermath of good sex and you’re here to look for another way to get me back into your bed.”

With one more try, she broke free from the cage. “But guess what, not this time.” She added.

Lloyd stood still as he watched her walk off. Once she gone, he covered his face and sighed.

He should have seen it coming, her running away. After all, their relationship had not started off anything serious and either of them showed any sign of wanting anything serious.

But did that stop him from wanting her? No, it didn’t.

And would it stop him from chasing her? No, it wouldn’t.

Lloyd Riley had a plan for everything and Anastasia Johansson would be no exception.

“Good job at the meeting today, Ma’am.” Katherine greeted Anastasia as she returned to her office. The assistant who had ran into Kareem someplace in the hallway when he stepped out to answer the call, had been briefed about how smoothly the meeting went.

“Thank you.” Anastasia replied as she placed her things on her desk and sank into her chair, determined to start work on Lloyd’s case and get it over with, after all, she didn’t want to spend unnecessary time being close to him.

Her hand tightened on her desk as she internally agreed that the 500 thousand dollars she was getting paid, as per negotiated by Lloyd, was far way better than the fluttering and butterflies she got in her stomach when Lloyd was around.

“Would you like a cup of coffee?” Katherine asked and Anastasia snapped out of her thoughts.

“Please.” She answered and watched as Katherine left, a little smile on her face.

She really had to get her act together, and soon.

With that thought in mind, she began work on Lloyd’s case file. The first three hours had things looking good, but by the forth hour, after three cups of coffee and a short snack break, Anastasia realizes that there was one thing she had overlooked, a crucial existence in the case.

“Katherine,” She called. “Please contact Mr. Kareem and have him send me the contact info of the employee who had sold the concept to the rivaling company. I need to ask him a few questions.”

Katherine nodded and got up. “Right away.” She said and left, only to return a few minutes later. “Mr. Kareem said he doesn’t have the contact info of the employee who sold the concept.”

Anastasia’s brows creased. “What?”

How was it possible that he didn’t have the contact info of an employee? Even if him as an individual didn’t then the company at least should, right?

Right, but that wasn’t the case and the more Anastasia thought about it, the more something began to seem fishy.

“What else should I do, Ms. Johansson?” Katherine asked, snapping her away from her spiraling thoughts, but she had already gotten enough idea to know what to do.

“Nothing, I’ll handle it from here.”

With a nod, Katherine exited her office and Anastasia went back to the file, scrolling through it until she found the name of the company that had stolen Lloyd’s company’s concept.

“Lynks.” She muttered the name as she went over to her computer and typed it in, scrolling through their website and finding their official phone number.

She listened to the line ring for a few seconds before it was answered.

“You’ve reached Lynks headquarters, how may I help you?”

“Hi. This is Anastasia Johansson from Cheosang law firm, a firm hired by L.R Co. I’m currently handling a case against your company and I was wondering if it was possible to speak with a higher up at the moment.”

“Of course, please wait.” The girl, receptionist Anastasia Assume, said and soon she was redirected.

“Logan King speaking, what can I do for you?” A deep voice asked, and Anastasia found herself sitting up straight in her chair.

“Hi. My name is Anastasia Johansson.” She introduced, keeping her tone as professional as she could. “I’m currently handling a case filed by L.R Co, on the case which your company got sold some concept of their newest product.”

“Yes, I know about the case.” The man sighed. “So what do you want this time around. I’ve received nearly a thousand calls like this in the past twenty four hours.”

“I just wanted to know if it would be possible for me to get the contact of the employee who-“

“No, you can not, because even I don’t know that employee’s identity.”

Anastasia’s brows creased.

“What?”

“Yes. And here’s something I haven’t told the past callers, the so called employee who ‘sold’ that concept to me, didn’t even request for any money. He wasn’t paid.”
