Accidentally Yours, Mr. Stranger-Chapter 49: Trump Card
Chapter 49: Trump Card
"My God! Isn’t she wonderful?" Xavier was floored by Sienna’s mind-blowing demeanor. Until then, he only had respect towards. She was his employer and the lady his friend liked. That’s all. But after the small episode, he was now her fan. How cool was she!
"She sure is," Kyle agreed whole-heartedly, surprising his friends with his words. But that was it. He didn’t say more, returning to his taciturn self again.
The employees returned to their seats while Kyrell and Amy traced Sienna’s footsteps, following her to the elevator.
Kyle, Isaac, and Xavier continued to explore the company, silently observing the people working for the Lawrence Group. They studied everyone discreetly, noting all the bad apples that had to be dealt with quickly.
Meanwhile, Celia was taken away by the police. No amount of pleas or warnings worked on them as they brought her to the police station.
Luther had arrived at the police station only an hour ago after dropping by the forensic lab to have a word with the forensic investigators. Amid all the chaos and the previous night’s tension, he hadn’t had the time to deal with Andy or the people who had filed a false complaint.
Now that the prey had arrived at his doorstep on her own, he didn’t let go of the opportunity and led her directly to the interrogation room.
Luther didn’t stop at that. He went ahead and ordered his people to bring Celia’s parents, Rupert and Helga to the police station for interrogation. Since they dared to commit a crime, it was time for them to suffer the consequences.
Celia kept hurling profanities, not understanding how things had come to this. Why was she handcuffed and brought to the police station when it should have been Sienna? Where did the situation go wrong?
Celia kept demanding to speak to her lawyer, not realizing that with each moment that passed, the people in the police station were getting annoyed with her.
Not just that, the news about her arrest as well as the Lawrence Group banning the Nelson family spread like wildfire.
Rupert was in deep trouble already. Now, with Celia getting arrested and Lawrence Group banning them completely, he was close to getting destroyed.
"What kind of a dumb daughter did you give birth to?" Rupert shouted, too overwhelmed with anger. He had never expected to have fallen into this state. His company’s stock prices were dropping drastically and things were slowly getting out of hand. It was out of his expectations.
"Is she only my daughter? How dare you shout at me!" Helga shouted back. She wasn’t the one to suffer silently. Rupert was rendered speechless by her scream and he scowled, utterly irritated.
"What do we do now? We need to save Celia first. The more she stays in the police station, the more problems we’ll be in."
"Why don’t you call Dane? Maybe he can help us?" Helga suggested, having calmed down now.
"Good idea. Let me call him."
Rupert was quick. He dialed the man’s number immediately and tapped his feet anxiously.
"Dane, thank you for picking up my call. I have a favor to ask," Rupert started, trying to appear as polite as possible, not realizing how unhappy the man on the other side was.
Dane had already received news about Celia’s ’great’ deeds. He had also heard how the Lawrence Group had banned the Nelson family. His eyes flashed with a strange glint and an idea started to contrive in his mind.
"Yes, Mr. Nelson. How may I help you?" Dane remained professional, drawing a clear line between them, ending all personal relationships they had.
But Rupert who was worried out of his mind didn’t notice anything amiss and continued to speak to him with all familiarity.
"Dane, that bitch Sienna trapped my daughter. Now, Celia is at the police station. Can you help her please?" Rupert twisted the truth completely, depicting Sienna to be the sinner rather than his foolish daughter.
Dane, who knew the truth, didn’t call out his lies. Instead, he listened silently, scoffing at the man’s pathetic attempts to fool him.
’Do you think I’ll fall for your tricks? You can trick anyone but me?’ he thought, waiting for the man to finish speaking. He didn’t say anything right away, taking his sweet time to deal with Rupert.
"Dane? Are you there?" Rupert asked when he hadn’t received any response for a long time.
"I’m here, Mr. Nelson. I was thinking about your matter," Dane replied half-heartedly.
"Then, Dane, what do you think we should do?" Rupert exhorted, hoping Dane to help him. He needed to cling to him if he wanted to survive the catastrophe he had invited over himself.
"Mr. Nelson, I’m sorry I can’t help you in this matter for I have a meeting with a client in a few minutes. But I’ll send a colleague of mine and he’ll help your daughter."
Rupert’s heart dropped when he heard that Dane wouldn’t be of much help. But he felt better once he listened to the latter half of the sentence.
"That’s good. That’s good." Rupert was pleased and kept praising Dane until one of the servants ran inside the house, his face pale and panicked.
"Sir... Sir... Sir..." the servant stuttered, too scared out of his mind to speak coherently.
"What happened to you? Have you lost your manners?" Helga condemned the servant’s actions, forgetting for a moment that her husband was still on the phone.
"Madam, the... the... the police are here," the servant said after great difficulty.
"What!" Helga jumped to her feet, her body trembling slightly.
Even Rupert was visibly stunned, and he froze in his spot, forgetting that Dane could listen to everything.
Rupert and Helga didn’t have time to prepare themselves when the police entered the house.
"Mr. Rupert Nelson, Mrs. Helga Nelson, please accompany us to the police station. We needed to interrogate you regarding the false complaint you filed yesterday."
"What? How is this possible?"
Dane heard Helga cry followed by Rupert’s curses before everything went silent.
Spinning his phone between his fingers as he stared ahead thoughtfully, he pursed his lips and narrowed his eyes. His plan was failing, he realized. First, Sienna had found out about his affair with Celia, and Celia... that dumb woman had ruined everything for him.
However, Dane wasn’t disheartened. He still had a trump card that would turn the entire situation in his favor.
"I guess it’s time," he muttered, picking up the file his father had given him, "for me to play my game."
