"Harvest time~~~~~~"
"Harvest time~~~~~~"
"Harvest time~~~~~~"
Long and sonorous cries reverberated under the azure sky.
This is Angus Village, a medium-sized village located midway between the City of Knowledge and the City of Freedom, approximately 150 kilometers from the City of Knowledge.
The able-bodied adults of every household in the village stood by their respective fields, calling out towards the crops. The joyful cries spread further on the early autumn breeze.
"Harvest time~~~~~~"
The children, women, and elderly of every household, as well as passing travelers and tourists, gathered in the village’s central square. Upon hearing the cries that signaled the start of the Harvest Festival, they too began to shout. A year’s worth of hard work and fatigue was released in these cries. There is no need to consider the past. Nor the future. The only thing to consider now is the next three days, three joyous days.
With nearly four hundred households, and close to two thousand residents, the collective shout echoed in every corner of the village.
Amid the cries, on one side of the square, the doors of the Earth Goddess Temple slowly opened. An adorned girl with silver hair wearing a priestess robe and a straw crown on her head slowly walked out from the temple, stopping at the steps outside the door, overlooking the crowd that had quieted down.
Suddenly, a gentle smile appeared on her face. Her hands raised high, a thin mist shimmered with faint yellow light flew from her hands to the sky, and slowly rained down on the crowd in the square.
"The Goddess is with us." The girl’s voice was not loud, but through the use of Sound Amplification Magic, it clearly reached everyone’s ears.
"The Goddess is with us." A sky-shaking cheer immediately followed. Countless hands were raised high, waving towards the sky.
The village’s most respected elder came out of the crowd, carrying a tray. He slowly walked to the front of the steps and knelt down. He lifted the tray high and shouted, "We give thanks for the Goddess’s love and mercy, this is our token of respect for the Goddess."
The girl lowered her head to look at the tray. On the shiny black tray, several plump golden wheat ears were entwined together. Every wheat ear had been meticulously chosen, embodying the heart of devout faith and profound gratitude.
The girl smiled, bent down, and gently accepted the tray with both hands. She silently turned around, walked back into the temple, knelt down in front of the statue of the Goddess in the prayer hall, placed the tray gently before the statue, clasped her hands together in front of her, touched her forehead to her fingers, and quietly prayed to the Earth and the compassionate Goddess.
In the midst of prayer, the white statue gradually gathered a soft glow. As the light grew stronger, it eventually became a beam of light, piercing through the temple roof to the sky. The wheat ears on the tray vanished with the emergence of the glowing light.
"Ho, holy, it’s the Holy Descension, a rare sight to see in decades." The elder who had already stood up saw this scene, his eyes as wide as they could be. He couldn’t help but shout out, then quickly covered his mouth with both hands, fearing to disturb the ongoing ritual.
The holy radiance did not change due to the old man’s outburst. It still connected the temple and the sky. After a long time, the statue’s glow burst open, turning into countless dots of light. As if the temple didn’t exist, it dispersed in all directions, penetrating the temple walls. Even under the blinding sunlight, you could clearly see countless points of light dancing in the air and falling. The glow covered the entire Angus Village and a large part of the fields outside the village.
As the light points vanished, the girl finished her prayer, tenderly kissed the toe of the Goddess statue, slowly got up, walked out of the temple gate, and met everyone’s anticipatory gaze. A holy smile on her face, she shouted, "The Goddess really likes your gift. The Goddess blesses you. Now, it’s time to celebrate. Let’s celebrate with the Goddess."
"Oh!!!!!!" The cheers from countless people fused into a sea of voices, engulfing the sky above Angus Village. Farmers, tourists, travellers, all joined together to begin celebrating this three-day-long festival.
"Not bad at all." Inside the temple, Pannis applauded as the silver-haired girl Lina came in after closing the doors: "Very professional."
"Sorry to have kept you waiting, Pannis." Lina gave a soft smile and gave a slight curtsy with her hands clasped in front of her thighs: "I apologize for the delay."
"Ah, it doesn’t matter to me, but Priest Milak was worried." Pannis pointed to the middle-aged priest standing beside him.
"Haha, I’m sorry, I should have known better." Priest Milak chuckled sheepishly, rubbing his hands together: "I should have realized that the lady the Holy City of Knowledge asked to preside over the festival on behalf of the High Priest, even if she’s not a priestess, wouldn’t have any problems. I should have known better, I really should have, ah, Lady Lina, I’m really sorry."
"It’s okay." Lina’s smile was incredibly pure and holy: "I understand your anxiety. Considering my profession, it’s completely understandable. There’s no need for you to feel sorry, I’m fine."
"Thank you, thank you." Priest Milak said modestly: "You’ve worked hard today."
