"She was born strong. She can easily wield a knight’s lance that others could only stabilize with the help of a horse. One hand is enough for her." Pannis shrugged, struggling to lift the lance with both hands: "I can’t do the same. It’s hard even with both hands."
"How many hands you use is not important." Catherine vigorously shook her head: "The real question is, how can you defend with a knight’s lance?"
"Can’t you? You’ve done it just now." Pannis casually picked up a one-handed sword: "Now it’s your turn to attack."
"This is rare, you actually want to fight?" Catherine’s eyes sparkled. She ditched her sword and shield, lifted a two-handed heavy sword, and licked her lips: "Then, I won’t hold back."
Pannis was surprised to see Catherine so invigorated, "I didn’t expect you to be so passionate about fighting. Is it worth getting this excited?"
"Of course, it’s worth it. Do you think I enjoy being hit all the time? Every day, I take hit after hit while holding my shield. Now that I finally have a chance to attack, of course, I’m excited. Hah, here I come." Catherine cheerfully cheered, her two-handed sword raised high, she opened the offensive with a comprehensive downward slash.
Pannis didn’t block, didn’t dodge, didn’t parry, he simply—thrust.
"Huh?" Catherine exclaimed in surprise when she found that Pannis’s upward diagonal thrust had directly hit the body of her grown sword, precisely at the point of her own thrust. Her powerful slash was easily deflected, without any effect.
"Come on, see what you can do about this." Catherine hesitated for a moment, she retreated two steps back. With her two-handed sword raised horizontally behind her and a loud shout, she drew half a circle with the help of the sword body and started a sideways slash at the height of Pannis’s waist. Pannis closed the distance swiftly with two steps as her heavy sword powerfully swung up, still performing the same move - thrust.
"What about this one?" Catherine’s eyes burned brighter than before. Once again, she stepped back, raised her heavyweight sword to her chest, and aimed it at Pannis while her torso thrust forward. The situation was almost completely the same as before, Pannis had already taken a few steps forward as she prepared to thrust, his sword was already stuck on the handguard of a heavyweight sword, thus saving his force from direct thrust.
"No more playing." Pannis mischievously threw his sword aside, clapping the non-existent dust off his hand and spread his hands towards Catherine’s dissatisfied gaze: "I’m not a guardian knight. I only know these few moves. Once they’re used up, there are no more."
"No, there must be more." Catherine stubbornly retorted: "Again."
"I genuinely don’t know any other moves, but this is just a thought process. It could be a one-handed sword, a knight’s lance, or a shield, right? They could all work in the same way." Pannis turned to leave with one hand in his pocket and the other waving: "It’s almost lunchtime, I’m going to prepare some food. You come to eat after you’re done practicing."
Catherine didn’t pay any attention to what Pannis was saying. She just stood numbly in the same spot, her unfocused gaze staring at the stone slabs on the ground, lost in deep thought.

"It smells so good." Catherine, dressed casually, sat down at the dining table while drying her wet hair with a towel: "What’s for lunch today?"
"Onion mashed potatoes." Pannis also sat down by the table, removing the cover from the plate.
"How is it made?" Catherine scooped two large spoonfuls into her own plate: "It smells different from the one I make."
"How is it made? It’s simple. Cook potatoes, smash them."
"Never mind then." Catherine rolled her eyes, and casually broke some bread into her plate: "Let’s eat."
"Aren’t we waiting for Vivian?" Pannis looked startled and asked: "She can’t possibly skip lunch too, could she?"
"No need to wait for her." Catherine shook her head: "If she hasn’t woken up by now, she probably won’t wake up until just before dinner."
"Hmm, I see." Pannis frowned: "Is such a habit really good?"
"Shush." Catherine put her index finger against her lips and made a quiet sound: "Certain things are better not asked or discussed."
"I understand." Pannis nodded and said: "I see it relates to her secret."
Catherine smiled and changed the topic, "When is Lina coming back?"
"I am not sure." Pannis said: "She should be off helping kids now. Then she will return to the temple to assist. They hold free clinics today, so she probably won’t be early."
"What about you?" Catherine, always the epitome of sophistication, ensured she always puts down her cutlery and wipes her mouth before speaking: "What plans do you have for the afternoon?"
"Sleep." Pannis gazed out of the window: "With such nice weather, it would be a betrayal to the Sun God Huront not to take an afternoon nap."
"No sleeping allowed." Catherine ordered domineeringly, "We promised to face forward and be true to ourselves, and not allow ourselves to fall into despair like we used to."
"But this is the real me." Pannis sighed, "Deep down, I’m telling myself that it’s time for a sleep. In such a situation, shouldn’t I follow my instincts?"
"Don’t make excuses." Catherine interrupted Pannis’s nonsense with a wave of her hand, "Come with me in the afternoon."
"Going out again." Pannis stirred the mashed potatoes on his plate unwillingly, mumbling, "Where are we going?" ƒгeewёbnovel.com
"Shopping."
Pannis sighed and held his forehead, "Oh lord, is this a skill that all women naturally possess? No matter what their profession is?"
"What? Do you have a problem with it?" Catherine squinted dangerously, expecting an answer from Pannis.
"No, what I mean is, shopping is a good form of exercise." Pannis answered seriously, "It should be vigorously advocated."
Catherine chuckled lightly while giving Pannis a wry look, "Actually, we are mainly going to the Guild to see if there are any available missions."
"We just got back and you’re already preparing for a new mission?" Pannis asked curiously, "Don’t we need some rest?"
"We don’t necessarily have to accept the mission. When I’m at home, I make it a habit to visit the Guild daily to check on missions. You never know, there might just be a mission that suits us. After all, good missions are always in high demand." Catherine explained, "Even if we really accept a mission, it would be a relatively uncomplicated one that anyone can complete when they have the time, just to earn some money."
"Okay, okay." Pannis agreed helplessly, "Are we leaving right after we finish eating?"
"There’s no rush. I still have 800 shield-raising exercises to do. We can go after I finish the practice and take a shower." Catherine said.
"How wonderful." Pannis quickly finished his remaining food, "I’ll take a nap in the meantime, wake me up when we’re ready to go."
"Lazy bones." Catherine watched as Pannis dashed out like a rabbit, grabbing every minute to sleep more, muttered resentfully.

Walking outside with Catherine, was different from walking with Lina. When you walk with Lina and meet familiar faces, their greetings were friendly, as if you were seeing a normal girl next door. However, there is a deep-rooted respect in their greetings when people see you walking with Catherine. This has a lot to do with the way this young knight carries herself and practicing chivalry in her daily life.
"Good afternoon, Miss Catherine, you’re heading to the Adventurer’s Guild again, aren’t you?" greeted the enthusiastic middle-aged grocery store owner by the roadside.
"Hello, Mr. Leon." Even when facing the most common merchants, Catherine adhered to the knightly courtesy, "It has become a habit of mine. I feel uncomfortable if I don’t visit the Guild daily."
"Ha, you’re so dedicated." The middle-aged owner rubbed his half-bald, shiny head, "If my Linda had half of your effort, I wouldn’t worry a bit."
"Linda is actually doing great." Catherine nodded assuredly, "I heard from the teachers at her school that they think she is ready to be promoted to Iron Rank and become a professional, which is all thanks to her hard work."
Upon hearing Catherine’s words, the grocer’s bald head shone brighter and he couldn’t stop smiling proudly.
Similar conversations occurred over and over again throughout the journey. Even after departing Fox Street and going quite a distance, they occasionally ran into familiar pedestrians.
"You’re quite popular." Pannis commented, shaking his head and swaying, "No wonder you’re in the most respectable profession. You must have done many good deeds for them, haven’t you?"
"There’s something wrong with your tone." Catherine looked at Pannis sideways, "Helping those in need is a basic moral duty as a knight, not some kind of charity."
While they were talking, they stepped into an alley. Both sides of the alley were scattered with street vendors, and the products on their stalls were clearly local farmers’ goods, mainly consisting of fruits and vegetables, occasionally some stalls sold processed foods like bread, beer, and smoked meats. Compared to shops in commercial areas, the goods in the alley were not as diverse, and their appearance was significantly worse, however, they were much cheaper, therefore attracting many local residents who came here to buy food. The alley was always lively in the afternoon every day.
The moment Catherine stepped into the alley, the originally lively atmosphere abruptly changed. The hustle and bustle of hawking and bargaining noises gradually quieted down, eventually disappearing entirely. Wherever Catherine’s gaze landed, the vendors in that direction would quickly lower their heads to avoid her sight. Some even packed their things and left as soon as Catherine looked their way.
"What’s going on?" Pannis was confused, asking in bewilderment.
"Hmm, hmmmm." Catherine only gave an awkward laugh, keeping silent, raising her head high and walked through the silent alley with a serious expression. It wasn’t until her figure disappeared at the end of the alley that the hustle and bustle returned.
