Chapter 1471: Chapter 257: Sweetness

"Just now." Pannis shrugged, "You told me yourself."

"Are you trying to scare me? You dared to make such a decision without even being sure about something so important?" Nellie’s voice rose in surprise, almost spilling the wine in her cup, which frightened her into taking a big sip, but then she winced in pain and glared at Pannis, "It’s all your fault, making me waste so much wine. I drank it before it even had a chance to take effect." ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

"That really is a pity." Pannis, too lazy to argue with the irate knight, responded as if he hadn’t heard her complain, "There are always some things in the world for which one cannot wait to be absolutely certain before making a decision. For those things, the so-called choice is actually having no choice. Take the situation just now for example, what was I supposed to do? I was eighty percent sure that you were just acting, but it wasn’t a hundred percent. There was still a twenty percent chance I was wrong. What should I have done? Should I have shot you with the Hunting Arrow just to eliminate the risk for that twenty percent? Stop kidding. Don’t you remember the story Dillie told about the fool who, because he was worried about choking to death on food, never dared to eat and then starved to death? We all laughed at him back then, saying that was impossible, there aren’t people that stupid. But we all know deep down. There are too many such people and such incidents in the world. Do you really want me to do something so foolish it makes people laugh? You’re trying to drag my intelligence down to Dillie’s level, that’s just too much."

"Be careful or Dillie might find out and bite you, ’grrr, I’ll eat you, ha ha ha ha.’" Nellie, imitating a scorpion-tailed lion with her empty hand shaped like a claw, made threatening noises, amusing herself for quite a while, causing Pannis to sigh in resignation. After she stopped laughing, the knight said softly, "Indeed, that ’whatever’ food, their world’s language is so strange, it’s just ’whatever’ food, truly ridiculous. But then, one must sometimes do it, especially when it involves big things that can influence the entire world. It’s always right to make the most careful choice."

"If you want me to be more careful, then don’t lunge at me so early," Pannis said loudly, "So careful, even more careful and you’d be dead. You think this is fun?"

"What’s so bad about that?" Nellie raised her voice as well, both of them glaring at each other as if they were arguing, but Nellie soon averted her gaze and said with a bitter smile, "Sorry, I got a bit impulsive, forget what I just said."

"Yeah, I’ve already forgotten." Pannis sneakily picked up a hard crispy biscuit, dipped it in a bit of cuisha fruit jam, but before he could put it in his mouth, Nellie spotted it and snatched it away, stuffing it into her own mouth, infuriating Pannis who gritted his teeth and said, "Hey, I can’t even have one piece?"

"This is mine, crunch, crunch, not giving you any, crunch, crunch." Nellie licked the jam off her fingers with a triumphant look, tilting her head back and saying, "Humph, serves you right for always stealing my food."

Pannis narrowed his eyes, giving Nellie a dangerous look. Just as she tilted her head back and couldn’t see him, he suddenly moved closer, kissing the knight on her pouting lips due to her triumph, gently licking the residual jam around her lips. The ambushed knight’s eyes widened in surprise, she looked at Pannis cluelessly, but soon her widened eyes slowly closed, her surprised expression softened, and she began to quietly enjoy the wonderful sensation of cuisha fruit’s fragrance spreading in both their mouths.

"You jerk who steals food." After what felt like a long time, the freed knight, her face red, called him by a nickname only the two of them understood, her ordinary face appearing exceptionally beautiful as it flushed, "I really want to beat you up hard."

"Hehehe, that’s what you get for not sharing with me." Pannis licked his lips, showing a mischievous grin that made one want to punch him, "See if you dare next time."

The two of them acted as if they had completely forgotten the disagreement they just had, not bringing it up again as if it never happened. However, many things can’t be forgotten just because one wants to forget them. What had happened couldn’t be rewritten, at best, they could only bury more questions in their hearts. In fact, both knew that they were only temporarily avoiding the issue, not really solving it, but they also knew that since they had met, the problem would have to be resolved sooner or later. The current avoidance was only to give each other more time to enjoy the moment’s warmth, making up for a century of deep longing.

After leaning against each other’s shoulders for a long time, Nellie finally sighed softly, picking up the topic they had avoided earlier, and asked in a low voice, "You said you are eighty percent sure, is that true?"

"Yeah, I don’t like to lie," Pannis said with an unchanged expression, uttering words he himself didn’t believe. But Nellie, who knew him well, was clear that at least on this matter, he indeed hadn’t lied, "When I first came in, I had less than ten percent certainty, but then you exposed your own situation."

"Huh, was my performance really that poor?" the knight said annoyed, "I have rehearsed it for several years, it should have been fine."

"No no, you misunderstood, it’s not your performance that’s the issue, it’s your intelligence." Naturally, Pannis immediately paid the price for his mistake, covering his thigh and crying out, "Hey hey hey, don’t pinch, it’s swollen, really swollen."

"Jerk." Nellie said fiercely, "Speak up, what’s the problem?"

"There was a problem from the start." Pannis rubbed his thigh, grimacing with a bitter smile, "Many of your answers were off."

"I knew it, you always like to pretend you’re casually testing others," Nellie complained, pouting, "Every word you said was testing me."

"Well, it’s pretty much fair to say that," Pannis said, grinning awkwardly, wanting to laugh but not daring to, his expression particularly strange, "I needed to get the answers quickly and make a decision, so I was testing you constantly. I didn’t expect you to be so naively cooperative. Hey hey, let’s speak calmly, violence is wrong, okay, I’ll stop fooling around. The first doubt you left in my mind was your attitude towards mortals."

"What, is that wrong?" Nellie blinked, puzzled, "Was it too arrogant? But, some deities really are like that, haven’t we heard about it before?"

"Indeed, there are a very few deities who are that arrogant. It’s not wrong for you to try to imitate that sort of persona," Pannis nodded, "But he is not just any deity, he is Danacus."
