Chapter 1450: Chapter 236: The Grimreaper’s Purpose
"I’m glad you understand." An eerie smile appeared on the cold face belonging to Nellie, her eyes, almost devoid of human emotions, looked at Pannis as if she were looking at a dead object, "For us, only beings of equal existence are worth our attention. We may hate other deities and wage wars against each other, but hate humans? Hahaha, that would be too boring. Moreover, I don’t see any reason to hate you. Is it because you ruined my plans? But you didn’t, you merely delayed them a bit. In our eyes, that period of time is just a moment. You see, now my plans are proceeding smoothly once again. You can’t stop me; she can’t either. Though she caused me a little trouble, compared to her current predicament..."
"Boom," another blast of energy explosion occurred, yet this time, it happened in front of Danacus. As Danacus was speaking, Pannis abruptly waved his hand, his index finger tracing an arc in the air, releasing a crescent-shaped blade of energy from between his fingers, slicing through the air toward Danacus. Danacus remained sitting on his throne, watching the blade approach without changing the pace or falter in his speech, merely stretching out his left hand with fingers spread to block in front of him. Just before the energy blade met his palm, he gently grasped it, and against all reason, the blade, over a meter long, was held in his small hand. The clash of energies roared within Danacus’s palm but not a single shockwave was emitted.
"Hehe, just testing to see if you truly hold no grudge against humans," Pannis said with that grin that always made the girls want to punch him in the face, smilingly adding, "Don’t mind it, don’t mind it."
"We may not hate humans, but that does not mean we refrain from swatting the flies that dare to offend us." Danacus replied with a frigid smile. At the moment his smile appeared, numerous ferocious energies formed unexpectedly around Pannis, continuously surrounding and smashing against his body with violent explosive sounds, nearly forming a continuous line, from every direction launching mighty attacks at Pannis. Amidst the booming, Danacus indifferently said, "Anyone who offends the majesty of a deity will surely endure divine punishment."
"It seems this fly has yet to be swatted dead," though Pannis was subjected to dozens of consecutive energy strikes at a high frequency, he still appeared nonchalant, hands crossed over his chest, standing in place without moving a step, his face still wearing a smile until the energy assaults gradually ceased. Then, tilting his head, he said, "You see, I did say before, my strength has far surpassed that of the past. Your will attacks seem incapable of swiftly killing me. Heh, I’m even a bit surprised myself. You should have recovered much since you were just that pitiful Divine Soul, but looking at it now, the result seems quite similar to before. Is it because my strength has increased too strongly, or is it because your power remains unchanged as before?"
"Your courage is commendable, rarely does someone dare to attack a deity again. But do you think just because you have smeared yourself with a bit of my divinity, you won’t be backlashed by divine punishment, and can attack freely?" Danacus lowered his head, looking at his palm that had just crushed Pannis’s energy blade, appearing as if nothing happened, he coldly laughed and said, "Don’t forget, the divinity within you was granted by me, and I can take it back whenever I wish."
"Feel free, if you want to take it back, go ahead, I won’t object," Pannis spread his hands nonchalantly and said, "But do you dare to take it back? Taking back the curse from me, can you be sure I won’t turn into a pile of white bones from the passage of a hundred years? Hehe, or perhaps, you like using a pile of Skeletons for your new body?"
"Hm?" Danacus’s voice paused, his eyes finally showing a change of emotion, with a trace of surprise he looked at Pannis and said, "It seems you’ve guessed it."
"Heh, is it hard to guess? Otherwise, why would you so willingly allow me to meet you? Are you inviting me for dinner?" Pannis sneered, looking around disdainfully, "This place doesn’t look like it has dinner to offer, so surely you’re not inviting me to eat. Since that’s the case, there’s only one possibility, that even after more than a hundred years, you’re still coveting my body, wanting to use it as your Divine Body to smoothly return to the ranks of the Deity. Am I right or what?" freēwēbnovel.com
"Should I praise your courage or laugh at your arrogance?" Danacus straightened his body and looked down at Pannis with a cold laugh, "You’ve already guessed my intent, yet you dare to appear before me. I really should thank you. Otherwise, if you had hidden away, it would have taken a lot of effort to find you."
"Don’t mention it, I would feel guilty." Pannis, having heard Danacus’s words, had an expression that briefly turned bizarre, seemingly excited, but he quickly concealed it and regained his composure, squinting his eyes and smiling, "Since you dare give me this opportunity to stand before you to achieve your goal, why can’t I give you the same opportunity to realize mine, don’t you think, Lord Grimreaper?"
"That’s why I want to both praise your courage and mock your conceit," Danacus said coldly. "I don’t know where you get your confidence from, but I must admit, it’s rare to see someone so arrogant in the presence of a Deity. Unfortunately, those people have all perished under the Divine Power."
"Exactly, like Loki and Sigein," Pannis nodded his head with a smile, "How does it feel, knowing that the enemy who killed their own is right in front of you but you can’t kill them directly because you need to keep your identity secret? It must be quite a delightful feeling."
"I understand now, you can’t wait any longer." Danacus slightly paused, his expression immediately darkening as he slowly rose from his throne, saying in a deep voice, "The soul of this body left quite a few last words. I wanted to tell you before your soul was devoured by me, so you could die peacefully, but since you are so eager, let’s start now."
Upon hearing the word ’last words’, Pannis’s complexion finally showed some ugliness, although he quickly suppressed his inner turmoil, his smile was somewhat stiff. However, he still maintained his smile and slowly said, "No hurry, no rush, I’m not in a hurry at all, Lord Grimreaper, since you have this idea, how could I possibly go against your kind intentions?"
