Chapter 1441: Chapter 227 Greedy Bastard

"Hahaha, this is the punishment from the god of destiny, some fool was just mocking me, and now it’s finally your turn to pay the price," no doubt, the only one who could proclaim such a victory was Lina. Whether she truly failed to read the mood or it was the little demon named ’jealousy’ secretly plotting a new prank, the priestess girl laughed heartily with her arms akimbo, startling the mage girl, Vivian, from her dream-like bliss back to reality, where a feeling of shyness took hold once again. Instinctively, a scorching fireball erupted from within her, devouring everything around.

However, Pannis’s foresight came into play once again. Just as Lina started to mock, Pannis had already prepared, so when Vivian was suddenly jolted from her stupor, Pannis immediately accelerated to his extreme, nearly bypassing the process altogether and appearing five meters away from Vivian, just in time to avoid the baptism of flames. Having dodged a bullet, Pannis heaved a sigh of relief, wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, and shook a fist at Lina, who was now sporting a look of regret for her failed scheme. The priestess girl, of course, wasn’t intimidated by Pannis’s threat and blinked suggestively at him, her gaze secretly drifting towards Freya and Catherine.

It was clear Pannis was preparing to do the same. He left the mage girl, who was still pretending to be a bonfire, and quickly walked towards the princess who could now be considered slightly plump. Over the years, under Catherine’s constant supervision, the princess had essentially regained her former grace and would surely become the center of attention again if she returned to the City of Knowledge now. But the princess didn’t mind at all, she felt no worry about causing trouble for her friends with her strength as their backing, had her best friends’ support, and someone she admired who understood her. Freya didn’t need to hide her appearance anymore and was even somewhat looking forward to returning to the Holy City, so everyone could see her, as if reborn.

Seeing Pannis approach her, the princess who grew up in a gray world would of course not react like the two naive young girls, Freya stepped forward with graceful strides, elegantly meeting Pannis and looking up slightly into his eyes, whispered, "Is it my turn now?"

"Cough cough cough," Pannis coughed dryly, the princess’s initiative was expected, but when actually faced with it, it always felt a bit strange. Pannis scratched his head in embarrassment and said with a wry smile, "With you being like this, it doesn’t give me much of a sense of accomplishment."

"Heh, but that feeling of accomplishment, it’s not important at all, is it?" Freya said with a faint smile that, paired with her voice, was intensely alluring: "What really matters, after setting aside those things, are the emotions you truly wish to express, don’t you think?"

"Perhaps," Pannis replied, looking at Freya’s breathtakingly beautiful face, embraced the girl and whispered, "I like you too."

"That’s it?" Freya teased softly with a twinkle in her eye, resting her head gently against Pannis’s chin, "Compared to them, why is what you give me so much less?"

"Because you don’t need it," Pannis said with a smile: "If you want to hear those words, Tate has already said them to the marchioness, I don’t need to repeat them."

"Hehe," Freya narrowed her eyes in contentment, speaking with a happy expression, "But it seems Marso and Sofur have a different opinion."

"To do like Sofur, repeating one’s declaration of love every day, that’s beyond human limits," Pannis shook his head and said, "I’m just an ordinary human, so I prefer it simple, like Mark facing Constance."

"Silent love?" With her luminous white teeth biting her crimson lips, Freya placed her hand suddenly on Pannis’s chest, gently pushing him away as she stepped back lightly and said, "That attitude is somewhat satisfactory, at least it satisfies me. With this, have I finally obtained a perfect love?"

"Of course not," Pannis shook his head and said, "Perfect love doesn’t exist in this world."

"No, you’re wrong. Perfect love does exist," Freya pointed to her chest and said, "To each person, the love best suited to them is their perfect love."

Pannis was startled and then chuckled, nodding his head. Just as he was about to say something, he suddenly noticed someone tugging at the hem of his garment. Looking down, he found the blonde girl Ava staring up at him with an expressionless face, one hand clutching the hem of Pannis’s clothing and the other still holding the familiar ivory comb.

"Uh, is it time for our daily hair-combing?" Pannis gave a wry smile, helplessly took the pristine ivory comb, and squatted down to start combing the girl’s cascading long hair. Neither of them spoke; one had a vacant look, the other a resigned expression, yet somehow there was a home-like warmth brewing between them, slowly fermenting with the familiar motions.

"Ha, big sister." Freya, who was interrupted, also paused for a moment, blinking innocently and saying, "You’ve been preempted."

"Hmm, I don’t need it, then." Catherine’s cheeks were tinged with a blush, and she shook her head emphatically: "The night he sneaked away, he already, ah, no, never mind."

"Big sister, you really did sneak off." Lina immediately seized upon the key information in Catherine’s words, jumping over to poke the knight girl’s waist and saying, "You promised not to sneak off, hmph, caught you."

"Stop it, you idiot." Catherine grabbed Lina, tapped her on the head, then turned her gaze back to Pannis.

"I like you guys, I enjoy the days I spend with you all." Pannis said while carefully combing hair: "But I have things I must do, and you all can understand that."

"Of course, we understand, but every thing has its end." Catherine nodded slowly and asked, "So?"

"The oak trees recently planted on the lawn of the Western-style mansion, one of them has entered its growth phase, right?" Pannis said with a smile that was not quite a smile: "I really hope that I will have the chance to personally water and tend to those oaks, watching them grow sturdier."

"We hope for that too." The girls exchanged glances, each revealing a smile of pleasant surprise, but then Catherine’s eyes shifted, suddenly asking, "However, what about the Bow of Release? What do you plan to do with it?"

"Er, that issue... I will always have to return it personally." Pannis’s face was a picture of bitter smiles, his gaze drifting as he spoke: "As for what comes after, who knows?"

"Tsk." The girls made the same noise: "Such a greedy bastard."

"The door is open." From the distance, at the front of the big door, Finche’s and Luscia’s voices rang out timely: "Are you all ready?"
