Chapter 1418: Chapter 204: The Ghost Behind
"What did you just say?" Pannis’s eye corner twitched uncontrollably, and he narrowed his eyes ominously as he said in a deep voice, "Just awakened from madness?"
"You heard correctly, milord has just awakened from madness," Luscia hesitated for a moment but finally nodded her massive skull affirmatively and said, "I am not entirely sure of the specifics, I did not even realize at first that milord had fallen into madness. It was a chance conversation with her, she inadvertently mentioned that before my awakening, she had been in a prolonged state of madness. Fortunately, at that time her body and the Divine Power of Death were not fully merged. Even though her mind was chaotic, she did not radiate her consciousness out to the external world, fortunately causing no significant impact. She also said, luckily, it only caused some special Undead to appear, otherwise she really would not know how to face someone in the future. Mr. Kyle, you need not worry too much about this, after all, these events occurred fifty or sixty years ago, and even if you worry, it won’t solve any problems."
"I understand, I understand," Pannis sighed deeply, knowing that he could no longer find answers from Luscia. Moreover, he had a vague guess about the reasons for Nellie’s madness, but he could not bear to delve deeper, forcibly shifting his gaze away and speaking to the two little ones, "The special Undead she mentioned must refer to you two. Hey, you two stop that right now."
"Ah, Annie, Little Deer, what are you doing?" Their conversation slowly lifted the veil that shrouded the historical visage, revealing the true face of history in the eyes of the young girls; they listened so intently that they were rendered almost trance-like, not snapping out of it until Catherine, startled from her reverie, growled in alarm, "Come back here right now, or you’ll have me to answer to."
Catherine’s urgency was understandable—the conversation between Pannis and Luscia might have been very captivating for the girls, but for the two purely joyful little Undead, it was just too dull and boring. Consequently, the two bored little beings couldn’t stand the solitude and simply sought their own amusement in the prayer hall. The prayer hall was spacious and almost empty, so no one worried about them causing any damage and let them roam around. However, what everyone evidently forgot was that the common sense that applies to the living does not hold for the Undead. For the living, indeed, there might not be anything amusing in the hall, but for the Undead, it was different—especially since the center of the hall made a good playground.
Thus, by the time everyone noticed the two silly figures, Annie and Little Deer had already climbed halfway up Luscia’s tailbone. Little Deer’s hands were tucked into the tailbone’s crevices, swinging back and forth in the air, while Annie was riding on Luscia’s tail, adopting the posture of a knight charging on horseback—obviously having learned it from someone. Hearing the shouts from Pannis and Catherine, the two little Undead were instead startled; Annie instinctively dodged backwards, tumbling down the tail, and Little Deer, more pitiful, let go with both hands, plunging from a height of several meters.
"Thump." The little skeleton, waving its limbs as it fell, felt it was caught by someone—looking down, it realized it was resting in a claw almost larger than its own body. Undoubtedly, it was Luscia’s claw. Concurrently, Luscia’s tailbone curled, deftly wrapping around the tumbling Annie. The massive Bone Dragon examined the two little Undead in front of her for a moment, and before Catherine could speak up from below, twisted her forelimbs and tail, hoisting the two little rascals onto her back and said kindly, "There’s no need to shout at the children, playing is in their nature; we have a few hatchlings in our brood who were even more troublesome shortly after their birth. It’s nothing; I don’t mind."
"But, it’s really quite rude," Catherine said with a wry smile, "I’m very sorry; we were too absorbed and failed to stop them in time."
"Haha, it’s really okay, just let them play up there, as long as they don’t dismantle me," Bone Dragon Luscia’s laugh was crisp and pleasant, clearly not minding the offense from Annie and Little Deer. Instead, she was genuinely curious, twisting her slender cervical vertebrae to look back and speaking to the little ones who had recovered from their fright and started to curiously explore the vast dragon bones, "Did you just say that they are the special Undead mentioned by milord, born from effects of her inadvertently radiated will?"
"Yeah, but it’s just my guess," Pannis shrugged, "I reckon even Nellie herself can’t be sure if they really are."
"Perhaps," Luscia surprisingly admitted, "Milord still has a long way to go in comprehending her own abilities. I’ve accompanied her wandering this world for decades and deeply understand this. Compared to those innate Deities, her receptiveness is really... hard to comment on."
"Cough cough, indeed it’s hard to comment." Evidently, Pannis wasn’t optimistic about Nellie’s capabilities either. With a clearing of his throat, he changed the subject, "Have you been with her since you woke up?"
"Yes, in the whole world, it was just the two of us." Luscia nodded, "Back then she had not yet created a separate space outside this world as a Divine Kingdom. She still walked the earth, so I accompanied her, traveled every corner of the world with her. We talked about the past, discussed how we could transform the world, but most of the time, we just sat idly by ourselves. Actually, that time is quite memorable. She didn’t treat me as an Undead, and I didn’t see her as a Deity. It was a kind of special friendship, spending days together as companions."
"Thank you," Pannis suddenly stood up straight, bowing deeply in gratitude.
"Huh? Why thank me?" Luscia asked bewildered, "Is there any reason?"
"Nothing much, just felt like saying thanks," Pannis shook his head, simply smiling faintly, not answering Luscia’s question, "Don’t mind me. Continue, what happened after that?"
"After that? Saen woke up, and after some time, more and more Undead began to awake," Luscia spoke softly, "Everyone felt cold, and Lady Nellie would... "
"If it’s convenient, just call her by name," Pannis gently said, "I’m still accustomed to that."
"Right, everyone felt cold, and Lady Nellie burned her own power to warm everyone up. When everyone felt hunger and emptiness, Lady Nellie transformed the world to make it suitable for living and cultivating," Luscia’s voice carried a sense of nostalgia, "As the resurrected Undead increased in number, everyone recognized her as a Deity, and knew that they were resurrected because of Lady Nellie. They were willing to offer their devotion to her, so more than twenty years ago, we decided to organize everyone into a church based on a unified belief."
"Thirty years ago, huh?" Pannis mused with a smile that was not quite a smile, "So, it was more than twenty years ago that he woke up."
"Huh?" Luscia asked in surprise, "Who are you referring to?"
"Do I need to ask?" Pannis sneered, "Bring him out, the Ghost behind the King of the Undead."
