Yarra's Adventure Notes-Chapter 1386 - 172: The Dispersing Hubbub
Chapter 1386: Chapter 172: The Dispersing Hubbub
The noises gradually faded away, and in the tavern of the Undead Capital, tranquility befitting the Death World slowly returned. The patrons, who had packed the hall, staggered out together after half a night of heavy drinking at this entertainment venue so crucial to them. After the stimulating effects of the alcohol, they needed to return to their familiar homes, to lie on their comfortable beds, and end the pleasant day with a deep sleep, just as they did every day, day after day. Although such a life seemed monotonous and uneventful to some, for the resurging Undead, this was happiness, this was life.
Not just the ordinary Undead, but most of the leaders had left as well. Sensing the presence of living beings and hearing the bells that conveyed the message, these leaders hurried from every district of the city. Without prior discussion, they gathered neatly and completely in the tavern, not a single one missing. Today was exceptionally important to the leaders, as the first contact between the living and the Undead had concluded smoothly and successfully. It was an event worthy of being recorded in the annals of Undead history, and these Undead leaders would also leave a significant mark on history for their participation. Of course, what the living and the Undead pursued was different. The Undead leaders didn’t care about such things; whether their names were written in history was of no importance to them. However, what mattered was that everyone sensed the attitude of the living beings and saw the possibility of cooperation. The leaders greatly valued the nascent race of the Undead and naturally converged in the tavern when they saw hope for their race and felt it might have a bright future. They wished to see the others with their own eyes and to use their own experiences to judge their character and attitude so as to infer the potential outcomes of the future.
Clearly, the outcome was satisfying enough, and that’s why the leaders happily drank deep into the night. Even when it was time to rest in the latter part of the evening, they were reluctant to depart, seemingly eager to seize the opportunity to drink the night away. Fortunately, Saen and Shiela each gave a few kicks behind all of the merry-making leaders, somewhat forcibly driving away the crowd. Even so, they left with a lingering reluctance, as if considering the thought of continuing the next day. For this reason, the girls were particularly grateful to Shiela and Saen. After several consecutive days of travel and constant high alertness, they were indeed very tired and needed good rest to energetically face the tasks of the next day. However, if they had to rely on themselves alone, it would be difficult to deal with these stubborn figures, and getting proper rest would be impossible. Only Shiela and Saen could rely on their status and prestige within the Undead to chase away the leaders as easily as they did now.
"Actually, it’s not as exaggerated as you imagine, everyone still knows how to control themselves," Shiela said while floating midair, smiling and explaining, "They only acted so unrestrainedly because we were there, confident that we could keep the situation under control. If Saen and I weren’t there, they would have been more reserved and wouldn’t have disturbed your rest."
"Heh, of course we wouldn’t doubt that," Catherine said with a smile and a nod. "After all, everyone is a leader, and their past experiences are obviously not ordinary; they wouldn’t lack the ability to understand their limits. So, this shows the leaders hold ample trust and respect for you and Mr. Saen."
Indeed, as the race leaders of this urban district, Saen and Shiela did not leave with the other leaders but stayed behind to fulfill the responsibilities of lenders. Apart from the visiting living beings, there were no other customers in the tavern’s hall. Only two skeletons hid at the entrance of the corridor leading to the tavern’s backyard, peeking out continuously as if trying to determine when these lingering guests would have the conscience to leave on their own, allowing them to return to their sleep sooner.
"I suppose the taverns in the Spirit World are still like this now," Shiela said, perhaps feeling more relaxed after spending the evening together or due to the private conversation with Pannis. No longer as cautious as at the beginning, she now felt somewhat closer as she casually introduced to the girls: "The commercial facilities in the city, though they have developed over a few years and reached a certain scale, are still quite basic and not very sophisticated. There are no inns in the city, and taverns often perform the functions of inns, accommodating guests from afar."
"In the past, our world was the same. Even now, there are many places that maintain this tradition," Catherine nodded. "This is perfectly normal. In a region, a few inns can already accommodate enough guests. There’s no practicality in having specialized hotels. Even if someone decides to run one, I’m afraid they would soon go bankrupt and close up. Thus, only in densely populated areas like big cities do hotels exist. It’s only in the past few decades, with tourism booming, that most villages and small towns gradually saw the emergence of dedicated hotels. This is simply a business norm and not at all surprising. What really surprised me, however, is you all. We’ve been suspecting and now have finally confirmed that you’ve actually developed a currency. We encountered a Necromancer named Kenseth before, and he even deliberately kept it secret from us."
"Kenseth? Oh, that strange Necromancer. We all know him; he, like us, came to the capital on a pilgrimage and then stayed there for a long time as an Undead. That guy was one of the first batch of revived Undead, way earlier than Mil. Although his strength is poor, as you saw earlier, the leaders aren’t necessarily the strongest. There are a few among us with what you call ’Legendary Rank’ strength who can also be leaders. So, with Kenseth’s abilities, he had a good chance to be nominated as a leader, but he flatly refused and instead is keen on traveling around the world. He stimulates the world’s commercial development through the form of a caravan," Shiela said with a wry smile. "However, I must admit, his choice was right. For the newborn race of Undead, what he can bring as a leader is far less than his current contributions."
"Quite an interesting history," Catherine propped her chin and said, "Can you tell us more about him?"
"Hehe, it seems that you’ve also reached some trade agreements with him. But that’s a good thing," Shiela glanced at Catherine and Pannis with a meaningful look and nodded with a quirky smile. "Back then, our world was still in its most primitive stage."
"Leader Saen, Leader Shiela." Just as Shiela began to speak, a Ghost floated down directly from the rooftop, "The guests’ room has been prepared."
"Thank you," Shiela nodded her thanks to the person in charge of the inn and gestured with her hand, saying, "Let’s walk and talk then. Everyone, this way."
