Chapter 1384: Chapter 170 Pannis’s Conspiracy

"So, we just left the research center with her, just like I said before, and never found our way back," Mr. Pannis and Saen Shiela had just returned to the tavern when they happened to hear Catherine’s final summary, "Since then, we have never seen Sigein again, nor have we heard any news about her. No, that’s not true, I did hear about her once from a priest. She has now assumed a new identity and taken to her own stage; perhaps in the near future, she will start to show her power. However, it is unlikely that we living beings will see her again in our lifetimes. Of course, to be honest, we don’t want to see her at all, including Ava, as it’s not a memory worth cherishing."

"That’s right, we still have an unsettled debt," Pannis naturally took up the conversation, scoffing as he said, "Although the problem has been fundamentally resolved, I haven’t forgotten the gift she gave us for a single day. That experience was indeed torment for our hearts. If we could see her again, even though I know there’s a huge gap in strength, I wouldn’t just ignore this debt."

Rattle rattle.

"Haha, poor Mr. Pannis, you’ve been scorned by Saen," Shiela said mockingly with schadenfreude, "Saen said that among the mightiest, only Loki could beat Sigein. If it were Saen, even five of him wouldn’t necessarily win against Sigein. So, if you want to defeat Sigein, wait until you can crush Saen with a mere wave of your hand."

"Cough cough, Pannis, you’re back?" Catherine coughed dryly, walking over to Pannis’s side, gently took his arm and led him back to his seat. She subtly changed the subject without leaving a trace, "It looks like your little meeting went fairly well, the atmosphere is much more harmonious than when you left."

"Yeah, yeah," Lina came up from behind and pressed down on Pannis’s shoulder, leaning half of her body against him, curiously asking, "What were you all talking about? Hey hey, sis, don’t glare at me, okay, I won’t ask such a silly question."

Pannis’s gaze softened. Clever women always had their unique way of easing a man’s embarrassment inadvertently, a caring touch that warmed his heart and brought a slight smile to Pannis’s lips. Still, he put his forefinger to his lips and shushed softly, mysteriously saying, "We only discussed a little story, then I made a small request, but as for the contents of the story and request, hehe, it’s a secret."

"Bang." The priestess gave Pannis a gentle punch on the head and ran back to her seat, murmuring sulkily, "As expected, I knew you wouldn’t tell us."

Rattle rattle.

"Why can’t you tell us?" Shiela translated, "It’s true that the story needs to be kept secret for now, but what about the rest? There’s nothing else that needs to be kept so secret. And I think your math must be pretty bad because I don’t believe for a second that you only made ’one’ small request."

"The reason for the secrecy, naturally, is because... it’s a secret," Pannis said with that annoyingly punchable smile back on his face, wagging his finger, "As for the quantity, hahaha, don’t sweat the small stuff. A lion once said only fools care about details, and I think there’s a lot of truth in that, even though that lion was a fool himself."

"Be careful, or Mr. Dillie might get upset with you again," Catherine bit her lip, intentionally avoiding the topic of the secret. She knew full well that Pannis must be plotting some strange scheme, and obviously, part of that scheme was aimed at the girls which was why it had to be kept secret from them. Without him saying so, Catherine could already guess. It likely involved using Saen’s identity, leveraging his past battle with Danacus to counter his worship of the Grimreaper, and using that as an opportunity to persuade the other to accept the fact that Lady Nellie, the mistress of the Undead, was probably under the control of Danacus. Then through this fact, find an excuse to entrust the girls’ safety to the highly respected leader Saen, in case he himself couldn’t make it out alive, to prevent the girls from being torn to shreds by the angry Undead. Catherine even guessed that Pannis encouraging Ava to speak of Mil’s past, leading Mil to recall parts of his own past and recognizing Ava’s identity, was also to sway another leader, Mil, to their side, increasing the safety for the girls.

Such strategically planned safety measures laid out by Pannis moved the knight girl deeply. Only someone truly considerate of their well-being would be able to see a small opportunity and, in just a few minutes, arrange their thoughts in such a way that the girls might have a chance to survive any unexpected events. Even though this might also indicate that Pannis had not given up the idea of dying with Lady Nellie, Catherine was no longer so worried at that moment. The girls had already conveyed their thoughts and determination to Pannis through their actions. If that couldn’t shake the decision in Pannis’s heart, then all they could do was to despair. However, Catherine believed that Pannis could not completely disregard the girls’ sacrifices, and she believed that she and her sisters could look forward to a future reward.

"I was just telling the truth, nothing to fear," Catherine thought tenderly and intricately, a sentiment Pannis was obviously unaware of. He just grimaced and casually grabbed the goblet on the table for a swig, saying lazily, "What were you discussing just now? Ava’s story?"

"Yes," Catherine watched as Ava ran over and sat on Pannis’s lap, routinely stuffing her hair and comb into Pannis’s hands. Then, under Mil’s stunned gaze, she narrowed her eyes like a cat and enjoyed the pleasure of being combed, barely suppressing her giggles. She nodded and answered, "We also told a little story, and you came in just as we finished."

"That story is not fun at all," Pannis glanced around at the surrounding Undead, then at Mil whose emotions he couldn’t even clarify whether were subdued or excited, "You didn’t tell the entire process as the story, did you?"

"Of course not. How could I have done such a foolish thing?" Catherine said with a smile, her eyes becoming slits as she whispered lowers, "I avoided all sensitive content. Except for Mil, what others heard was just a story."

"Heh, that’s really your style," Pannis smiled similarly, "A very smart decision."
