Yarra's Adventure Notes-Chapter 1382 - 168 What Exactly Are You Here to Do
Chapter 1382: Chapter 168 What Exactly Are You Here to Do
"Rattle rattle."
"What exactly are you here in this world for?" Shiela asked in a cautious, skeptical tone, trying her best to mimic Saen’s attitude, her voice deep and probing, "What is your real purpose? My thoughts have changed, I don’t believe you are here just to keep an appointment that simple."
"What else do you think we should be doing?" Pannis spread his hands, speaking lazily, "What can we do? Ha, don’t forget, we are merely mortals after all, the most ordinary individuals in the mortal world, what else could we do?"
"Rattle rattle."
"Mortals? Ordinary? Hahaha." Shiela purposely roughened her voice, laughing heartily before she spoke, "Since I’ve awakened, I’ve never heard such an amusing joke, and it seems, not even in my previous life had I heard anything funnier. A person with the strength of the mightiest, claiming to be the most ordinary among mortals, has the standard definition of ’ordinary’ really changed that much in these hundred thousands years I spent in eternal slumber?"
"In front of deities, we are all mortals," Pannis retorted with his arms crossed in front of him and his head tilted, "Strong and weak are merely distinctions between individuals within the same world, but such distinctions are meaningless to deities, don’t you think?"
"Rattle rattle."
"Heh, do you really think that way?" Shiela asked, with a subtle look and a sidelong, half-smiling gaze at Pannis, "If you truly thought that, you wouldn’t be here right now."
"Tsk tsk, the fact that you can make that remark just shows that the question you asked me earlier about my purpose here is merely idle talk," Pannis said leisurely, "Do you really not know what I’m here for? To still ask a question when you know the answer, if that’s not idle talk, what is it?"
"Rattle rattle." Saen tilted his skull skywards, once again unleashing a silent laugh, his earlier wariness gradually fading. Shiela might not have fully understood the seemingly pointless exchange between the two, but she caught some of it. She put other thoughts aside and translated bluntly, "You’re right, it is idle talk, but really, what are you here for?"
"Have you forgotten, Mr. Saen?" Pannis said with a mysterious smile, speaking with ease, "I mentioned at the beginning, I’m here to keep an appointment."
"Rattle rattle."
"Yes, an appointment." Shiela translated, her expression turning somewhat unsightly, translating with a touch of unease, "Like the one over a hundred years ago?"
"That’s different," Pannis shrugged, shaking his head, "A hundred years ago, no one invited me, and I didn’t come to keep the appointment of my own accord."
The three Soul Fires in Saen’s eye sockets stopped flickering and instead contracted as much as they could, each shrinking into a small orb, yet the flames grew brighter. He remained silent, pacing slowly around, and after a long while, he rattled, "You must know, in this world, everyone is a follower of the master, and not just any pan-believer of an ordinary church, but pure true believers. No matter what experiences they had before, even the Undead like Mil, with deep grudges against the gods, have been warmed by the master’s selflessness and universal love, accepted her from the deepest corners of their consciousness."
"I’m delighted that you used ’she’," Pannis commented as if missing the point, then nodded, "Yes, I know."
Saen also nodded and continued his silent pacing. In the Realm of the Dead’s night, there was no moon, no stars, only the city lights illuminating the stone-paved streets. In the darkness, the three of them kept silent, the only sound echoing in the streets was the clack of Saen’s hard foot bones hitting the stone pavement.
"Rattle rattle."
The silence lasted longer than the first time, to the point where everyone had gotten used to the quiet environment and found the sudden emergence of speech somewhat uncomfortable. The emotion in Shiela’s translated voice also seemed to reveal a sigh of relief. Clearly, the female ghost was not accustomed to this oppressive silence, and now that she had heard the long-awaited voice, Shiela didn’t even consider the meaning of the answer and rapidly translated, "Evidence."
"Evidence? None," Pannis said irresponsibly. "Or rather, find it yourself. How could I possibly provide it?" frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
"Rattle rattle."
"I thought as much. We’re not even in the same world, so there can’t be any concrete evidence," Shiela nodded, unsure whether it was her own thought or she was relaying Saen’s thought: "Everything is just conjecture."
"Exactly, all speculation," Pannis didn’t seem to avoid the question and answered directly, "Even I can’t be sure of the truth, let alone prove it to you."
"Rattle rattle."
"If you can’t prove the authenticity of the story you’ve told us, you shouldn’t have spoken these words to us," Shiela’s voice was low and strong, much like Saen’s stature and posture, full of oppression: "I think you know what your words mean to us, to you, to both worlds."
"Want to hear the truth? I never thought about telling this tale; it wasn’t part of the original plan," Pannis kicked the wall of the house next to him, found it sturdy, then with Shiela watching in disbelief, he dislodged a stone step from outside the room’s door, settled down on it comfortably, and said lazily, "It was only about fifteen minutes ago that I had this idea."
"Rattle rattle."
"Hey, put it back later, did you come to this world just to dismantle houses?" Shiela muttered under her breath before reluctantly translating, "A temporary idea?"
"Of course, a last-minute change of plans, something I used to hate the most," Pannis said with ease: "Because you are the all-powerful Saen, this story exists. If you were not Saen, then there would be no story at all."
"Rattle rattle."
"It seems you think that my relationship with Danacus will affect my decision," Shiela’s sardonic tone was a very accurate imitation: "I think you might be misunderstanding something. Indeed, we have fought a long battle with Danacus, but we’re just enemies, you know, enemies, not necessarily foes."
"The war is not over yet, and sometimes I feel this saying makes too much sense," Pannis said leisurely: "Of course, I understand the difference between enemies and foes, so, what are you trying to say?"
"Rattle rattle."
"So, I want to ask, what exactly are you here in this world to do?"
"Of course, it’s...to keep an appointment," Pannis smiled brilliantly, giving the same answer to the same question.
