Chapter 1378: Chapter 164: Walking

"Rattle rattle."

"As you wish," Shiela floated behind Saen, translating for him, "But really, can’t I eavesdrop? Um, this question isn’t from me, it’s Saen asking."

"You can decide on that matter," Seeing Saen nod affirmatively, Pannis furrowed his brows and contemplated for a moment. Although the matters he was preparing to negotiate were of great importance, both to the Undead and to humans, Saen trusted Shiela for a reason. Moreover, judging by the attitudes of the other leaders, Shiela’s prestige among them as a Triclops was relatively high. Although her influence was not as overwhelming as that of the King of the Undead and the mighty Saen, she was indeed not an ordinary leader. Since she had already asked, outright refusal might plant seeds of distrust in her mind. Instead of insisting on refusal and ending up displeasing everyone, it would be better to show trust openly. Furthermore, Pannis, despite claiming Annie to be absolutely reliable, didn’t have absolute certainty that she wouldn’t reveal the details of their discussion to Catherine. After all, the little banshee had her own thoughts and wasn’t as naive as Little Deer. Thus, if he allowed Annie to accompany him, certain aspects of their conversation would inevitably need to be concealed. Hence, after weighing the options, Pannis simply handed the decision back to Saen, irresponsibly saying, "I think you must have a premonition of what I want to discuss with you. I must tell you, the content is even more unexpected than you imagine. Allowing Shiela to listen in might not really be a good thing. However, I do not understand the trust between you or the specifics of this world, so it is up to you to decide if she eavesdrops. What I want to say is, you will bear all consequences yourself. Trust me, if there is regret in the end, you will be the one regretting."

"Rattle rattle."

"Indeed, I’ve had a premonition about some of the content. However, since you say it’s more surprising than I’ve imagined, it’s clearly not limited to what I’ve anticipated. I believe that someone like you, given such a solemn and cautious attitude, must be entering into a very, very important conversation, potentially significant enough to influence the future of two worlds," Shiela’s body floated in the air, flickering for a second, her three eyes visibly curving in her hazy expression, a delighted smile emerging at the corners of her mouth, as she cheerfully translated, "But I insist that Shiela is trustworthy. In fact, we’ve known each other for a long time before our deaths, and after resurrection, these memories were not forgotten. So, among the leaders here, no one understands each other more deeply than we do. To me, there is no one more reliable than Shiela. In my eyes, there is no topic, no matter, that requires avoiding her. The content related to what you mentioned is no exception."

"Your decision. I hope your certainty is correct," Pannis said noncommittally, shrugging his shoulders and patting Annie on the head, "Alright little one, then we won’t trouble you. Go and play with Little Deer but don’t bully those brothers and sisters like she does. I should never have taught her that ball-throwing game."

"I know~~" The little banshee pouted, drawing out her voice reluctantly. Smart as she was, she sensed some of Pannis’s thoughts and seemed reluctant. However, knowing it was a serious occasion, she didn’t cling or make a fuss. Even so, she still swung a few more times from Pannis’s hair as if on a swing, but quickly drifted over to Little Deer’s side, soon forgetting her displeasure and starting to giggle along with the little skeleton.

"All right, let’s go out for a walk and let me see the night view of your Realm of the Dead," Pannis said with a smile toward the child’s retreating figure. Sensible children are always endearing, and it wasn’t until he saw Annie regain her smile that Pannis shifted his gaze and got up first to make a gesture toward the several girls. After receiving a cautious response from Catherine, he then bowed his chest to the two Triclops Undead as an invitation.

"Rattle, rattle." Saen’s lower jaw clacked, and he quickly explained a few words to the other Undead who were surprised to see their leaders suddenly stand up. Clearly, the leaders respected the decisions of Saen and Shiela a great deal, as no leader raised any objections. They just bid farewell with gestures and actions, then turned back their focus to the curious exchange between the pitiful Mil and the expressionless Ava.

"Your world is truly wonderful indeed," Pannis said as they walked along the deserted streets. The lamp light from the roadside buildings cast long shadows of one human and one Undead. As for Shiela, of course, she could not leave a shadow. Pannis walked with his hands behind his back, stepping over his own shadow alongside the silent and imposing Saen. The tall, burly skeleton was as quiet as before, simply walking in silence without making any noise save for the friction of joints. Pannis, too, had no real intention of engaging in conversation, merely musing out loud with leisurely comments during their walk, "I see you are using oil lamps for lighting, which I assume are made from black-skinned potato oil. Now that I think about it, you really have it tough. In just a few short decades, you’ve managed to utilize the properties of all these odd plants to completely transform your lives."

"It’s because everyone is striving for a better life," Shiela answered on her own, seeing that Saen had no intention of responding. "After revival, each of us retains some memories and knowledge from before death. As the numbers grew, we pooled our knowledge together and naturally came to understand the characteristics of these plants. After all, they originally came from the Yarran World. If these had been plants we’d never seen before, starting from scratch would mean decades would not have been enough."

"Are all these plants gifts from your master?" Pannis asked, touching a patch of unknown moss on the wall next to him. The owner of the house obviously liked to decorate the outside with moss, so the entire wall was grey-brown with it.

"Actually, you know as well as we do that they are offerings from believers outside," Shiela replied naturally. "However, I believe the Oracle must have instructed them to specifically offer up various plants and seeds. I must admit, the master has put a great deal of thought and care into us children. I remember when I first woke up, the land was barren and void of plants, and all we could feel was hunger, emptiness, and cold. It’s the master’s nurturing that has made us increasingly happy, which is why we are so grateful to the master and reluctant to go against the Oracle."

"I can see that your lives are indeed full of joy. Having interacted more with you all, we, too, have become happier," Pannis said, looking up at the lightless sky and sighing softly. "Even a few years ago, I could hardly imagine standing among a group of Undead and being able to smile. Heh, do you know how many Undead have returned to slumber at my hands? I myself have lost count." ƒгeewёbnovel.com
