Chapter 271: Chapter 155: Nice Greenery

"Oh, I see," he said.

Li Ziran tiptoed to peek inside the cold storage truck, through the observation port above he only caught a glimpse of a part of the monster’s limbs, and didn’t see its full appearance.

"Hey, stop looking. The thing was hit so badly, I couldn’t even make out what it was. There are no cameras on that mountain road, but luckily there’s a dash cam in the truck. The Abnormality Department should have gotten it by now, so we can just watch the video later to find out."

The two of them walked toward the storage room while talking, and just as they were rounding a corner, Guan Liang, who was on the right, suddenly stumbled and nearly fell, and the cold storage truck he was carrying almost slipped out of his hands.

"Ah!"

He let out a low cry, but fortunately, he managed to steady himself in time and didn’t fall.

"What’s wrong?"

Li Ziran, who was startled, quickly asked about his condition.

Guan Liang stood up straight and turned to look at a green bramble wrapped around his waist, carefully pulling it off his clothes with his fingers.

"Damn, totally unlucky, got caught by a potted plant here, nearly tore my clothes off."

He let go of his fingers, and the stretched bramble sprang back, retracting into the pot as if elastic.

Guan Liang looked at the lush potted plant with some confusion and said,

"That’s strange, did the janitor swap out the plants here? I thought there used to be a Devil’s ivy in this spot. Now it’s suddenly changed into something thorny; could it be a rose? Or am I remembering it wrong...?"

Li Ziran, also curious, came over to take a look. He tapped the brambles with his finger and said,

"They must have changed it, I remember it being Devil’s ivy too, and many other places seem to have been replaced too. I don’t know what they’ve been changed to, but I feel they don’t look as nice as the Devil’s ivy."

"Hiss!"

He was halfway through his sentence when he suddenly pulled his hand back sharply. A small drop of bright red blood was emerging from the tip of his finger.

"Mm... that’s pretty sharp, huh? Just a light touch and it pricked me..."

His face showed annoyance as he put his finger in his mouth and sucked off the blood.

"Hey, that’s really weird. You notice, Li Ziran, that the greening in our office seems to have been doing pretty well lately? The plants are all thriving. No wonder the air feels a lot fresher..."

The two of them paused briefly at the corner and then left, chatting away. The minor incident that had just occurred hadn’t caught their attention.

However, what they didn’t realize was that moments after their figures disappeared down the corridor, the vine with a trace of blood on it moved imperceptibly, then suddenly retracted into the soil below.

...

The next day, in the morning.

Zhang Xiaoman was sitting cross-legged, floating in the Original Realm. In front of him, after a distortion in space, a small bottle suddenly appeared, sparkling with Star Light, remarkably beautiful.

"At last, I’ve drawn the last portion of Star Dust. It really took forever to come out."

He grabbed the bottle in his hand and, with a thought, nine similar small bottles flew over from not far away.

All the bottles were filled with Star Dust, and after he had drawn them, they had been piled up within the Original Realm.

Looking at these small vials emitting a sparkling glow, a smile couldn’t help but appear on Zhang Xiaoman’s face.

Now, he could finally purchase the Star Network Host from the Gang Store. His anticipation for this item was hardly any less than it had been for the Enlightenment Array originally.

"Luckily, I randomly got a discount of ninety percent this month, otherwise, I don’t know how long I would have had to wait to exchange for it..."

While mumbling to himself, Zhang Xiaoman’s hands didn’t stop moving, as he impatiently opened the interface of the Gang Store, located the Star Network Host, and clicked to purchase it.

The familiar distortion of space didn’t occur, instead, a prompt appeared before his eyes.

"Hmm? What is this? It’s asking me to confirm the location, ’Once the Star Network Host is installed, it cannot be moved’?"

Zhang Xiaoman hadn’t expected this outcome; once installed, the device couldn’t be moved? It seemed somewhat different from what he had anticipated.

He shifted his gaze from the System interface and surveyed his surroundings, starting to ponder whether he should install the host in the Original Realm or not.

"Or maybe not, since I don’t know how it operates. If I install it in the Original Realm and it can’t make contact with the outside world, then wouldn’t my purchase be in vain..."

His concerns were not unfounded.

Firstly, in the Original Realm, any object that strayed beyond a certain distance from him would be left unprotected and subject to environmental damage.

For instance, his LCD cellphone once burst its screen due to pressure issues.

Therefore, he was unsure if the Star Network Host would suffer similarly; if it exploded in place as soon as he left, that would be a disaster.

Secondly, the Star Network Terminal used neutrino communication, so he surmised that the host’s connection method should be the same.

As far as he knew, neutrinos did not possess the ability to convey information across space. If it were quantum-based, perhaps it might be possible, but definitely not with neutrinos.

So, not willing to take the risk, he decided to abandon the idea of setting up the Star Network Host inside the Original Realm, concluding it would be safer to place it properly on Rebirth Island.

After leaving the Original Realm, Zhang Xiaoman arrived on the island. He pressed the button on his bracelet to summon the Anti-gravity Car and used the waiting time to ponder where he should properly place the host.

"Inside a cave? No, no, what if the host is too large and collapses the underground cavern?"

"At the bottom of the lake? Also a no-go, never mind if it would work; if I need to operate on it, do I have to dive down to find it?" frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

"How about near these ruins?"

Zhang Xiaoman examined his surroundings and then subconsciously shook his head: "That seems improper as well; what if it gets damaged by someone inadvertently bumping into it when more people come in the future..."

As he said this, his gaze swept around before stopping abruptly when he saw the lake to the northwest. A thought flashed through his mind.

"Right! Isn’t this lake quite large? The small island I am currently on is but one of many on the lake. Such islands, there are seven of them in the whole lake! I could totally set up the host on another island, thereby avoiding those problems!"

As he thought about it, the memory of scanning the Seven-star Lake map through the anti-gravity vehicle’s scanning system resurfaced, and he had already worked out a spot to place the Star Network Host.
