World Keeper-Chapter 1236: Are we the dummies?

Lifre hummed thoughtfully to herself as she returned to the root of the world tree where she previously had kept her main body. Now that she had ascended to become an Origin, she had completed the Keeper’s primary task for her before the others returned. All that was left was to stabilize her power.

Thankfully, Lifre never used her divine domains when hunting the calamity-class monsters that had begun appearing throughout the cosmos. Because of this, her ability to defend those places wouldn’t be impacted while she adjusted.

Of course, i’ll need to have my virtual self stop streaming long enough to synchronize our profiles again! She thought to herself, humming happily as she sat down on her usual perch. Only once she was in place did she pause, blinking.

“Wait, do I even need this anymore?” She asked herself, looking down at the branch beneath her. The reason that she had been sitting on the branch was to borrow its energy when she had run low on mana before. However, as an Origin, wasn’t her mana reserves the same as an entire universe?

Lifre crossed her arms, thinking back to what Dana had mentioned in passing before. Given that she originally had no plans of becoming an Origin, Lifre had tuned out most of the more general details. However, now that she thought about it, not only was her current mana limit higher, but her output should have been increased too.

Curious, Lifre opened her status window, wanting to take a look for herself. It was rare for people at her level to actively look at the window, as they simply developed a sense for their own energy. Instead, looking at the status window would cause a distraction in battle. I think it’s been about thirty years since I last looked at it? She mused, before her eyes widened slightly.

Her status window was now starkly different from what it used to be. It no longer had her classes listed, or even her energy levels. The only things listed on her window were her name and race, which had changed to Origin. Everything else was simply blank.

“...What am I supposed to do about this?” She muttered in a daze. “Wait, could this be really bad!?”

Lifre’s eyes widened, and she jumped to her feet, closing her eyes. “Blank! I need advice from a senior Origin!” She called out, though at least had the forethought to send the message telepathically as well. Especially given the fact that Blank wouldn’t be able to manifest from the virtual world within Olympus.

Sure enough, Blank’s response came a few moments later. I wasn’t aware that you had become an Origin. Congratulations are in order. Now, what may I do for you?

Yeah, so I just became an Origin, and I wanna know, is that going to create problems for my virtual self!? I just looked at my status screen, and I don’t have class levels or anything, so what will happen when I synchronize? Am I going to blow up!? Do I need to get a new synchronization watch? Eagerly waiting, please help!

There was a long pause as Blank processed the various questions, before letting out a long sigh. My apologies. However, in your case, I think it will be best to remove your virtual avatar from the equation, at least in its current form. Origins are a singular existence within the void. Currently, no Origin also possesses a virtual avatar.

If you were to synchronize with your virtual avatar, there is a high chance that the void resonance would cause one or both of your bodies to be destroyed.

Lifre blinked, tilting her head slightly. But wait, if the resonance caused my virtual self to be destroyed, would that lead to an infinite energy glitch? I create a virtual self, it gets destroyed, and I absorb its inner universe through the resonance, and then repeat the process over and over?

I… I don’t even know how to answer that question. Blank responded, clearly dumbfounded by the suggestion. However, I do not believe that something like that would be possible. Most likely, the virtual avatar would not be able to synchronize with you at all, due to the drastic change in your current nature.

That being said, I have been working on an alternative in collaboration with Darkflame Technologies. Recently, we’ve created a new type of virtual avatar, which may be of use to you.

Listening to this, Lifre nodded her head repeatedly. Hit me with the details! What makes this one so much better?

Actually, it is the fact that it is worse. Blank began, confusing Lifre. This form of virtual avatar is designed to synchronize the mind, but not the power profile. In the virtual world, the avatar will exist with only default abilities, but will have your full knowledge. This means that you won’t be able to benefit from games that have synchronized profiles, but you will still be able to play them, and will still be able to conduct your live stream.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

Lifre thought about that for a moment, before nodding her head in agreement. In truth, she didn’t need her avatar to have any form of special powers. All it needed to do was host the streams for her, and the powers of the avatar within the stream would come from the viewers. Got it, I’ll take that, then!

This time, Blank managed to respond far more quickly. I’ll ask Ashley to deliver the new device to you soon.

With that, Lifre let out a long sigh of relief, happy that the incident was resolved. Now all that was left was for her to slowly adjust the powers of her inner world. She had a lot of plans for it that she was really excited for.

As the Origin of Stories, she had several ideas for how to take advantage of her new domain. Unfortunately, most of these ideas were hard to realize with the current understanding of world design. Instead, she had to make these aspects up as she went, using her own abilities to create exactly what she wanted.

“Let’s see… first, I should take care of the Hero Summoning.” She muttered, closing her eyes and focusing on her inner world. This was the simplest application of her Origin domain, but also one that held a great deal of power.

Using normal summoning magic, as well as familiar magic as the base, she already had most of what she needed to handle the summoning aspect itself. All that was left was the ability to parse through a story to identify a single character, and make that character the target of the summoning ability.

For this, Lifre felt that she had two options. She could either create a complex system capable of translating plain text into a world creation format, or she could manually rewrite each story she wanted to use to be more compatible.

Neither side was especially easy, but she was more concerned with whether or not the latter option would still qualify as a ‘story’. For that reason, she decided to go with the first one.

Wait… Lifre blinked, her eyes opening wide as she looked up. She felt as if she had been hit in the head with an idea. “Are we idiots?!”

I had a small smile on my face, ending the conversation I had with Chelsea. She reported that Lifre had successfully completed her advancement, even though she had done so in a rather concerning way. Regardless, with her natural talent, this meant that we would have more confidence in keeping other Origins from running rampant.

“Boss boss boss boss boss!” Lifre’s voice shouted out from the distance, rapidly closing in before she pushed open the door, her eyes wide. “I just had a brilliantly stupid idea! Or maybe stupidly brilliant, I haven’t decided yet!”

I blinked in confusion, looking at the energetic girl. “Go on..?”

“I want to nom me some void beasts!” She said with a wide grin.

I stared at her, waiting for her to elaborate on this idea. However, she stared back, her eyes bright and practically sparkling. “Uhm… maybe I could use a bit more context, there?”

“Huh? Oh right! Well, you know how void beasts are made up of different rules? And when they attach to a world, they influence it based on those rules? And then, as they devour more information, they evolve to expand on said rules? I wanna eat ‘em!” She explained, though her explanation seemed to have derailed near the end.

My brow twitched, closing my eyes to try to piece together what she meant. “You mean… you want to try and devour the rules of void beasts, integrating them with your inner universe?” I asked, guessing based on her chaotic choice of words and even more chaotic surface thoughts.

“Yeah! If I can find a void beast with a power related to stories, I can nurture it with the information of my inner world. Then, after it evolves, I can eat it to implant those rules onto my inner universe! This way, we can develop new Origin powers even if we don’t understand the specific world creation process!”

That was… actually not a bad idea. At the current point in time, void beasts were little more than pests that the void golems were taking care of. If they were able to nurture the powers of an Origin, we could find more ways to increase our abilities in the future. Moreover, doing it this way could potentially provide an Origin with abilities that they would have otherwise not thought of themselves. frёeωebɳovel.com

“Alright.” I nodded my head, giving her my approval for her to carry out her idea. “Just be careful when you’re integrating the rules. I know that you don’t have to worry about being infected by memetic abilities, but if you aren’t careful with the integration, it might lead to damaging your inner universe.”

“You got it, boss!” She grinned happily, turning and running down the hall. “Time for an all-you-can-eat void buffet!”

I couldn’t help but chuckle, shaking my head as I listened to her voice disappear into the distance. Of course, it wouldn’t be easy to find void beasts with the specific types of rules she was looking for. However, the void was infinite, so there were bound to be plenty out there, somewhere. It was just a matter of finding them.

Letting out a sigh, I leaned back in my seat, looking up at the ceiling. I hope the others are doing okay. I thought to myself, praying for their safety. It felt a bit weird for someone in my position to want to pray to a higher power, but I couldn’t really help it. If there was some higher force at work, I really did wish the best for Tsubaki and the others.
