[Vol. 6] Chapter 163: The New Sun

Time had eroded the towering structure to the point where its original form was unrecognizable. Yet, even the ruins that remained hinted at a magnificent creation, once a masterpiece that filled the inhabitants of this land with pride.

This tower, which should have reached the heavens, had been violently broken by some immense force. Its shattered remains lay scattered on the ground. Some pieces reduced to rubble, others barely recognizable as fragments of the once-proud structure.

The few layers of its base that still stood had lost their grandeur. The foundation’s paint had faded, leaving only a decayed and broken shell, much like the desolate city around it.

If not for the eerie stillness, where even the wind no longer stirred, this fragile remnant might have long since crumbled to dust.

“……”

After a moment of silence, Violet began walking toward the ruined tower.

“Tap, tap, tap…”

Her short boots struck the dry ground rhythmically, the crisp sound resonating in the lifeless expanse. It was the only melody in this silent world, a faint echo of vitality in a place where none should exist.

The sound rippled through the desolate air like a stone cast into still water, as if awakening something long forgotten. Something that should have stayed dormant.

“Crack…”

A few loose stones tumbled from what appeared to be an unremarkable pile of rubble by the roadside, breaking apart as they hit the ground.

Violet stopped in her tracks and calmly turned her gaze toward the disturbance, unsurprised.

“Crack… crackle…”

More debris began to fall, bits of its flawless outer shell crumbling away to reveal what lay hidden within.

Even though she had anticipated this, Violet couldn’t help but furrow her brow slightly.

“…Why is it here?” she murmured.

The entity sealed within the stone coffin was, indeed, a creature.

Yet, it couldn’t fully be called a living being.

Its entire body was encased in a hard, armor-like shell, impenetrable and covered with menacing barbs. Standing over two meters tall, its grotesque head bore dozens of chaotic, asymmetrical compound eyes. Behind it, a pair of translucent, dragonfly-like wings began to unfurl, hinting at its ability to fly.

Violet had seen it before.

Once, in the distant southern regions of another continent.

At that time, it was called the Abyss Beast.

Now, it had appeared again.

“…………”

But… how could this creation be here, in a ruin deep within the [Endless Wasteland Sea]? It made no sense.

Back then, when Seth began to be fractured by the laws of the world, and divine beasts were forcibly twisted into destructive monsters, the Goddess of Earth had not yet vanished. To Her, the Abyss Beasts, while dangerous, were not an insurmountable threat. After Seth was sealed…

…Wait.

Violet suddenly realized a critical point.

Sethlin’s memories stopped at the moment Seth was killed and sealed. But what happened afterward? How were the divine beasts forced into the abyss? And why had the once-grounded regions of the Azure Sky Kingdom transformed into ten thousand floating islands? None of these mysteries had ever been conclusively resolved.

From what Violet had seen in the southern wilderness of “Illusionary Cloud”, it seemed that the fragments of the Goddess of Earth were awakening at different times. Hidden forces had been quietly manipulating these divine relics, aiming to exploit their powers for purposes shrouded in secrecy.

In truth, even now, Sethlin had not reclaimed all the fragments of the Goddess of Earth’s [Divinity]. A few pieces had been secretly stolen by those with ulterior motives long ago.

For instance, the Goddess of Earth’s fragment contained within the blank book purchased at the ‘Fragrant Auction’. Its whereabouts remained unknown to this day.

Could it… could it be connected to the appearance of the Abyss Beast here?

“Clack, clack!”

As if responding to the sudden flash of insight in the girl’s mind, the creature, so eerily similar to an Abyss Beast, shook off the layers of sediment that had accumulated over countless centuries. Its cold, unfeeling compound eyes met the silver-blue gaze of the priestess.

“Zing!”

Without a word, pause, or hesitation, the creature’s eight razor-sharp limbs suddenly sprang into action. Despite its long dormancy, it moved with terrifying precision, lunging toward the black-haired girl with massive strides!

“Clack, clack! Clackclackclackclack!”

Its pace quickened, escalating into an all-out charge. Its thin, insect-like wings began to buzz, reducing its weight and propelling it forward even faster. It was like a dark war chariot, rushing headlong toward its target.

This was a machine of pure slaughter, driven by the unyielding mandate of destruction.

In mere moments, it was upon the black-haired girl, raising its eight gleaming, deadly spikes to obliterate the Life before it.

“Whoosh!!”

A golden streak of light sliced through the air with incredible speed, striking the creature and sending it flying backward. It crashed into a distant boulder with a thunderous impact.

“Sizzle, crackle, sizzle, crackle!”

The creature’s body sparked and screeched, pinned to the stone by an unseen force.

The giant insect struggled desperately, lacking even the organs necessary to produce sound. It could only claw at the muddy ground with its hind limbs, attempting to free itself and resume its attack. Yet, the radiant golden spear that had pierced through its body remained firmly embedded in the stone, rendering its efforts futile.

“Clatter…”

White feathers floated down as the black-haired girl descended slowly from the air. Her expression remained cold as she observed the writhing creature before her.

“Even with a direct hit to something resembling a vital point, it’s still not fatal… This brings back some unpleasant memories.”

Rather than immediately dealing with the creature, which resembled an Abyss Beast, Violet silently turned her gaze to the surroundings.

The desolate ground, once barren, was now teeming with similar figures that had started to gather unnoticed. From the horizon, a dense swarm, like an endless black cloud, appeared and began to close in on her, engulfing the sky as it rushed forward.

The numbers weren’t just in the thousands. They were overwhelming.

“Hah…”

Violet tightened her grip on her pure-white, jade-like staff and let out a helpless laugh.

“I think I’m beginning to understand why this ruin was wiped out.”

Without a single word exchanged, the countless shadowy forms descended like a swarm of serpents, blotting out the sky as they engulfed her figure.

It seemed as though the last spark of Life in this forsaken world was about to be extinguished beneath the tidal wave of destruction.

“Boom!!!!!!!!!!”

In the next moment, an endless radiance erupted like a new sun piercing the heavens. Golden swords rained down, spiraling around the glowing figure of the girl in midair. She hovered in the sky, clad in brilliance, as though a new god had descended upon this shattered world to offer one final elegy and redemption.

Suspended above the lightless heavens, she became the blazing sun, illuminating the dead world once more.

[I’ll have to ask Sethlin for reimbursement when I get back.]

The rain of swords fell, delivering destruction to the destroyers.
