Chapter 55 - 45: The Echoes Beneath Shibuya

Location: Shibuya's abandoned underground metro — a hotbed of cursed energy spikes, recently reported by Jujutsu Tech.
The city lights faded above as Leon and Maki descended into the shadowed tunnels. The air was thick with the stench of blood, rust, and something else... something old.
Cursed energy pulsed like a heartbeat beneath the concrete.
"You feel it?" Leon asked quietly.
"Yeah," Maki replied, hand gripping her new blade. "Something's watching us."
She wasn't wrong.
This place wasn't just a cursed spirit nest — it was a graveyard of failed bindings, sealed rituals, and aborted summoning attempts from decades past. Leftovers from ancient sorcerers who had tried and failed to twist the rules of their world.
"The mission's simple," Leon said. "A rogue curse-user is attempting to complete a ritual deep in this sector. Grade 1 confirmed. But there's more."
"What kind of 'more'?"
"He's trying to resurrect something. A curse spirit that was never supposed to exist."
Maki's eyes narrowed. "Good. Let's make sure he never finishes it."
They moved like shadows — Leon in front, Maki covering the flanks.
Suddenly, the walls pulsed — and a shriek ripped through the tunnels. From the darkness crawled a hybrid curse beast, stitched together with broken talismans and old Jujutsu techniques.
It lunged.
Leon's arm transformed mid-motion — Boosted Gear glowing blood-red — and slammed into the monster's skull, driving it through a wall.
"Yours," he said over his shoulder.
Maki didn't hesitate.
Her cursed energy flared — runes glowing, aura shifting. The enemy struck her across the chest.
But instead of breaking?
She smiled.
"Harder," she whispered, and swung upward — cleaving the creature in two.
The walls trembled again. More movement. Three more cursed spirits emerged. The ritual was almost complete. In the distance, a chant began — unnatural, inhuman.
Leon's eyes turned cold. Yamato unsheathed with a low whisper.
"We're cutting this off now."
"Together?" Maki asked.
"Together."
And like wolves unleashed — they charged into the dark.
