Chapter 56: Go ahead, hit me

The Heavenly Emperor’s voice was steady as he spoke, his eyes reflecting the weight of his worries. He just couldn’t fully trust this half-blood demon to get the job done. In other words, he was leaving his son’s fate to an impulsive demon king. "In this world, the twins are Peng Xiu’s loyal maidservants. They were captured as well and imprisoned in the military camp."

Xiang Yu nodded his expression unreadable. He turned his attention to the open treasure box on the table. Inside were letters stacked neatly with no creases. It showed how much this crown prince valued them. With a steady hand, he took out the letters and began to read them.

The letters revealed a story of intrigue and manipulation. The crown prince had indeed kidnapped Peng Xiu, but only after months and months of writing to each other. Initially, the crown prince had ignored the letters, but eventually, he began to respond, tempted by the idea of possessing her. Among the letters, Xiang Yu found a scroll. Unrolling it, he saw a portrait of Peng Xiu, her beauty captured in exquisite detail. It was this portrait that had swayed the crown prince, making him consider her proposal.

A sly smile played on his lips as he recalled how his mother had used a similar tactic to capture Huang Chao’s heart. She had seen him at the brothel once, but hadn’t served him. It was only after the young woman who served him publicised of how generous her client was that his mother harassed this man with letters and arranged a one-chance encounter that finally hooked him into visiting the brothel often.

The two women had never met, but their methods were strikingly similar. Disgust flickered across Xiang Yu’s face as he shoved the letters back into the treasure box. With a forceful slam, he closed the box, nearly breaking it apart.

Just then he heard a soft sound coming from a segment of the tent that was closed off. His brow creased as he glanced in that direction. Given that the crown prince had kidnapped but still liked Peng Xiu, it made sense that he would keep her close.

Silently, he unsheathed the sword hanging with the armour. With agile footsteps, he approached the closed curtain. As he neared it the curtain opened a peek, revealing a strand of Peng Xiu’s hair. Still seething from the agony caused by her, his anger flared. He grabbed her hair, eliciting a scream from her, a scream that spread to the rest of the camp.

He ruthlessly slammed her to the ground his eyes burning with hatred. Peng Xiu’s eyes widened in shock with blood trickling down her nose. She had been certain that the crown prince would be paralysed by now. While he wasn’t looking she had added a paralytic powder to his wine earlier and had been silently waiting for him to collapse before undoing her restraints.

When she heard that harsh sound, she thought he had been paralysed already so she could hide away before General Han came to save her. She wasn’t going to take the risk of sleeping in the same tent with the barbaric crown prince and risk her purity being robbed by him. Thus, she concocted this plan, but who would have thought that the man wasn’t paralysed at all? In fact, he was full of vigour his eyes fuming with rage. She couldn’t help but wonder if he knew what she had done.

She quickly changed her expression, looking pitiful and helpless as blood trickled down her nose. She wanted to appeal to this barbaric crown prince’s soft heart by acting delicate and pitiful. She cried softly, trembling slightly. Her voice quivered as she called out, "Your Highness, I..." But when she looked into his eyes she was startled. All she saw in those eyes were black pupils devoid of love and filled with pure hatred.

Peng Xiu was confused. Even though she had denied ever writing him letters, he shouldn’t have this much hatred. He should still be trying to coax her. When she was kidnapped by him, he made sure his men were gentle with her and the entire way he was coaxing her despite being scratched by her countless times. His face had a lot of deep scratch marks that had been clawed into his skin by her but he barely lost his temper.

She reached out to him her intentions to calm him down. Which man in this world wouldn’t be coaxed by the sweet touch of his beloved? But what happened next was unexpected. His hand swung and struck her with a resounding slap across her face. He hit her so hard that she saw dark spots and her ears rang. The soldiers guarding outside the tent winced but they didn’t dare enter. His Highness had given them strict instructions not to enter, no matter what they heard. They honestly thought that the crown prince had been slapped again by the princess.

Peng Xiu had no idea that they thought she was the perpetrator, not the victim. She felt around her mouth, tasting metal, and found that her tooth had loosened. Half her face was hot and swollen. His calloused hands had left bright red finger marks which were extremely glaring on her smooth skin.

Xiang Yu chuckled softly and mockingly said, "I am sorry, I thought you were going to attack me." Her pitiful facade vanished immediately. She changed her expression faster than a rakshasa. Her dark expression, dishevelled hair and the blood on her face gave her an overall appearance like that of a resentful ghost. She spat out her blood in his face and his skin was now covered in blood splatter.

With a deadly aura as strong as when he was slaughtering treasonous demons, he gripped her jaw to the point of breaking it. She winced in pain her chest rising and falling in rage. He glared at her struggling to restrain his demon instincts from taking full control of his emotions.

Peng Xiu’s eyes brimmed with hatred as she glowered at him. "Go ahead, hit me. The harder, the better. But if you kill me, General Han will slaughter you like a pig and spike your head on a spear."
