Chapter 53: How to annoy a god

Xiang Yu continued to step in and out of the door, a mocking smile playing on his lips. "So I can’t go outside?" he asked innocently, knowing full well he was irritating the old man.

"Will you stop doing that?" he said, exasperation clear in his voice. If this idiot didn’t have his son’s divine sense inside of him he would have left him on that forest floor.

Xiang Yu’s smile widened. "Doing what?" he repeated, feigning ignorance. Right on the verge of losing his temper, the old man snapped his fingers, and the door disappeared.

He took a deep breath, trying to maintain his composure. "You are here because I need your help saving Han Xin."

Xiang Yu’s expression turned to that of confusion. "Who? I don’t know anyone surnamed Han."

The old man, "..." Was he doing this on purpose? This little demon was like a toddler persistently pushing his buttons.

The old man stepped closer, his gaze intense. "Han Xin, the immortal you saved. The one whose face you scribbled on?" he said, his voice steady.

Xiang Yu, "???"

His eyes widened in shock. "That ugly bastard?" The man who beat him up to a pulp on their very first meeting, put on that cursed mark inside his body that made his sister come for him in the first place? Not only that but he even had the balls to steal his first kiss. Hell no, he would rather die.

His anger flared, and he immediately turned away, lying back down with his back to the old man. "Nope, can’t help you."

The old man gritted his teeth his frustration evident. He didn’t want to ask him for help either but he had no other choice. Till now, he couldn’t fathom how his stickler of a son who never caused trouble was related to this half-blood demon. Why couldn’t it be anyone else? "I can offer you anything you want." But Xiang Yu remained silent, his refusal clear.

The old man took a deep breath, his tone softening. "What about Lian? I can bring her back to life."

Xiang Yu’s heart clenched at the mention of Lian, but his resolve remained firm. "I would rather die. Death looks way better right now, and Mei will understand." They had had this discussion before. The twins would refuse to listen at first, not wanting to talk about sad things, but in the end, they listened to him. He asked them to live to bury him and visit him every tomb-sweeping day. His plan though had changed. He was dying and Lian was already... Mei would be alone but he was sure she would do what he said.

The old man sighed, his patience wearing thin. "Mei, that little girl? She was so sad that she almost drove a blade into her chest. She wanted to join you. She couldn’t bear the thought of losing the two of you... If I didn’t stop her, she would be dead as well."

Xiang Yu’s body tensed, his mind racing. The thought of Mei in such despair was unbearable. He couldn’t let her suffer because of his stubbornness. Slowly, he turned to face the old man, his eyes filled with a mix of anger and resignation. His jaw tightened, his hatred for Han Xin still burning within him. But for Mei, for Lian, he would do whatever it took. "Fine. I will help you. But just so you know I hate him. I hate him so much that if I could, I would finish him off myself."

’Well, it’s a good thing that you aren’t powerful enough to kill him,’ the old man said to himself. He nodded, a look of relief washing over his face. He knew this incident was all because his son had left his divine sense on this man’s body essentially making him a target. This was why he wasn’t too surprised at his reaction. The young man’s feelings were valid. "Fair enough." ƒreewebɳovel.com

"Good. So what do you need me to do?" asked Xiang Yu, his voice barely above a whisper.

The old man took a deep breath, his eyes locking onto Xiang Yu’s. "Han Xin was attacked by an ancient method from the underworld," he began, his voice heavy with the weight of the revelation. "His soul was split into different worlds, scattered across dimensions."

Xiang Yu’s eyes narrowed, his anger simmering just beneath the surface. "And what does that have to do with me?"

"Because," the old man continued, "you have his divine sense flowing inside of you. It will help us retrieve his soul from those worlds. Without it, we wouldn’t be able to bring him back."

Xiang Yu clenched his fists, the memories of his encounters with Han Xin flooding back. "So, you want me to save the man who caused all this chaos in my life?"

The old man nodded solemnly. "Yes. But it won’t be easy. The one who did this to him is the same woman who attacked you and killed Lian."

Xiang Yu’s heart pounded in his chest, a mix of rage and sorrow. "You mean my sister," he spat, the word dripping with venom. "Now why would she do that right under your nose? I take it that you are at least a janitor in the divine realm and, at most, a high-ranking immortal."

The heavenly king’s eye twitched finding this brat even more intolerable. A janitor, really? He swallowed back the curse on his lips and explained, "She loves him but he didn’t have any interest in her so she thought of this method."

Xiang Yu, "???"

He almost burst out laughing at this ridiculousness. He almost lost his life and the twins because of what? Love? She might not have been raised by their mother but they were both extremely selfish.

"By splitting his soul, she weakened him, and in each realm, she would live out her dream. She kept his body some where we couldn’t find him and lived out her fantasies. Who would have thought you would find him and bring him back to the heavenly sect gates."

Xiang Yu’s mind raced, the enormity of the task before him sinking in. He would have to confront the very source of his pain, the witch who had torn his life apart. But he couldn’t let his emotions cloud his judgment. For Mei, for Lian, he had to see this through.

"Fine," he said, his voice steady. "I will do it but I want to add one more condition,"

The old man nodded, a look of determination in his eyes. Even if he were to ask for the entire universe right now, he would undoubtedly agree. "Say it."

A twisted smile crept up Xiang Yu face his hatred for his sister fueling his words. "I want to borrow the Heavenly King’s lightning bolt. I want to smite my sister’s flesh and bones to dust. I want to destroy her soul so she can never reincarnate."

The old man’s expression darkened, the weight of this half-demon’s request sinking in. "You seek a power that is not easily granted," he said slowly. "The Heavenly King’s lightning bolt is a weapon of immense destruction. To wield it is to bear a great burden." A mere half-blood couldn’t withstand wielding his divine weapon.

Xiang Yu’s resolve did not waver the smile on his face widening. "If you can give me that, I will bring this Han person back. I will do whatever it takes."
