Chapter 511: "What do you want?"
Su Jing paced the dimly lit room, frustration coursing through her. She was determined to find someone to teach Xiang Yu a lesson, but the perfect candidate wasn’t back in the city yet. She sighed, realizing she could only wait until tomorrow. ƒreewebɳovel.com
Meanwhile, in the quiet of their home, Xiang Yu sat comfortably in a lounge chair, flanked by Lian and Mei. The gentle breeze rustled the leaves overhead, providing a rare moment of respite from the heat.
"Master, do you think Lord Han will find the water source?" Lian asked, his curiosity clear.
Xiang Yu chuckled, a lighthearted grin spreading across his face. "He won’t. I am sure of it."
Mei chimed in, her eyes shining with longing. "Master, is there a lot of water? I would love to have a long bath."
"It’s a lot of water," Xiang Yu replied, taking a moment to enjoy the dreamlike quality of the afternoon. "You won’t know what to do with it."
They all sighed contentedly, basking in the relaxation of the moment until a formidable presence loomed over them. Su Jing towered above, dark eyes fixed on Xiang Yu with unmistakable intensity.
Xiang Yu opened his eyes and tilted his head. "What do you want?"
"You have to get to work. That manure won’t move itself," Su Jing replied sharply, giving no ground for refusal.
Xiang Yu shrugged casually. "No, unless Xin-ge comes here himself and tells me to do it."
Su Jing’s teeth grit at his informal address. "Who are you to call him that? You can only call him Lord Han!"
Xiang Yu smirked, unfazed by her glare. "It’s either I call him Xin-ge or husband... which one would you prefer?"
Fury surged within Su Jing, her face flushing a deep red. In a swift movement, she drew her gun, pointing it directly at him, rage simmering just beneath the surface. Lian and Mei instinctively stepped forward, trying to intervene, but Xiang Yu held up a hand, stopping them.
"You and your men killed my people," Su Jing spat, her voice quaking with anger. "The fact that you are even alive is beyond me. You should be beheaded, your head spiked out of the city to send a message."
Xiang Yu rose from the lounge chair, his demeanour calm and cool. It was as if her words hadn’t affected him in the least. He regarded her with an amused expression, unafraid.
He stood in front of Su Jing, the cold metal of the gun pressing against his chest. He didn’t look intimidating, yet something in his calm presence unsettled her. It felt as though the ground beneath her feet was shaking, every heartbeat echoing in her ears.
Su Jing’s finger edged closer to the trigger, a tempest of temptation swirling within her. Could she really do it? Wouldn’t she become a hero for taking care of this burden named Xiang Yu? Praise would rain down for her and her people would see her as a protector rather than a mere victim.
"I understand that you are angry about the people you lost," Xiang Yu said, his voice steady, breaking through her turmoil. "But it’s not your place to punish me. It’s Lord Han’s place to decide what to do with me. The only reason I am putting up with you is that I understand what you are going through."
Su Jing felt her throat tighten, the sincerity in his words striking a chord deep within her. Her resolve wavered, the weight of her emotions almost overwhelming. As much as she wanted to end him in that moment, she found herself restraining the impulse. Slowly, she took back the weapon.
"You are right," she said, her voice low and shaky. "It’s for Lord Han to decide."
With that, she tore her gaze away from him and glanced at the twins, who stood by, fierce and protective like little beasts just waiting for Xiang Yu to unleash them.
"You three have a pleasant day," Su Jing said curtly before walking away, her mind racing with conflicting thoughts.
As soon as she left, Mei let out a frustrated huff. "She makes me so mad," she exclaimed, crossing her arms.
Xiang Yu ruffled her hair affectionately. "Don’t overthink it. She’s just angry about what happened to her people."
Lian pouted, concern etched on her face. "But Master, you didn’t do it."
Xiang Yu sighed, the weight of the world resting heavily on his shoulders. "Do you think they care about that? I am bearing the brunt of it, like always."
"But you don’t have to," Lian insisted, her frown deepening.
"I know," Xiang Yu replied softly, but his voice had a resolute edge. "But I can’t come out and say that the plot was done by the previous Xiang Yu. Who would believe me? For now, don’t worry about it."
Lian and Mei exchanged glances, sensing the gravity of their master’s predicament. They nodded slowly, deciding not to press further.

A cloud of dust billowed in the distance, rolling toward the city gates like a gathering storm. The guards positioned at the entrance brought a pair of binoculars to their eyes, squinting into the haze. "It’s the convoy," one guard called out, excitement threading through his voice.
With a creak and a groan, the gates opened wide, and two cars rumbled through the entrance, tyres crunching over the gravel. A group of men and women split out, moving quickly to unload the heavy sacks they had brought back with them.
The one who seemed to lead the group leaned casually against one of the vehicles. He flicked a lighter, the flame dancing before he lit his cigarette. He took a long drag, letting the smoke curl into the air before puffing it away.
Suddenly, Su Jing appeared, striding toward him with a determined look on her face. "Lu Lu, you are back," she said, her voice cutting through the din of the returning team.
The man, known as Xi Lu but affectionately called Lu Lu by everyone, didn’t respond. Instead, he inhaled deeply, releasing a thick cloud of smoke that hung heavily around him before finally asking, "Where is she?"
"She is in the medical centre. Do you want to go see her?" Su Jing offered urgency creeping into her tone.
Without a word, Lu Lu began walking toward the medical centre, leaving Su Jing no choice but to follow closely behind him. The air felt tense, thick with unspoken worry as they made their way through the familiar corridors.
Upon arriving at the medical centre, Su Jing led him to a small room at the end of the hallway. Inside, a woman lay on the bed, her face pale and lifeless. The sight twisted Lu Lu’s heart, and he stepped forward, taking her limp hand in both of his. His expression shifted, worry etching deep lines across his brow.
Su Jing felt the itch of frustration bubbling within her. She wanted to tell who did it. She wanted to tell him that Xiang Yu did it yet he roamed the city as if nothing were wrong. But just as she opened her mouth to speak, Lu Lu raised a hand, halting her words.
"Go out," he said, his voice steady yet laced with a quiet intensity.
