Venerable Demon King & The Doting Immortal (QT)-Chapter 43: That ugly b***rd
Chapter 43: That ugly b***rd
It felt like he was walking in circles, but his divine sense was immune to its trickery. Just as he was about to reach the girls, a suppressive aura washed over him making his hair stand on end. A great urge to conquer arose in him. He could resist the illusions of his parents but he couldn’t fight against this. His red eyes glowed intensely as he turned his heel towards the source of the aura. He was like a fierce tiger whose territory had been encroached upon by another.
In an instant, his figure vanished leaving behind the thick fog swirling restlessly. When he reappeared, he found himself in front of a white coffin on a stone platform partially concealed by the fog. It had strange sigils carved in gold drawing power from whatever was inside. It was being used as a battery to sustain the illusion and intrude into the minds of those unfortunate enough to stumble upon the fog.
Xiang Yu’s hand tightened around the hilt of his whip. With a swift motion, he struck the lid, blowing it off the coffin. He stepped closer, his boots crunching on dry leaves scattered across the ground. The air was thick with tension as he flicked the dagger in his hand, ready to strike whoever lay inside. The lifelike fog seemed to hold its breath as Xiang Yu peered into the coffin. His eyes narrowed; his senses vigilant.
The second he lay his eyes on the person in the coffin they widened having recognized that stupid bastard. The face before him was unmistakable. "You ugly bastard!" he snarled, his blade aiming straight for the man’s chest. The man who was by all means far from the word ugly, lay helpless with a pale complexion, clearly in a coma.
This man had beaten him so badly that till this day, he was so embarrassed. He didn’t even tell the twins the truth about how he lost the jade pendant. He would rather say he got robbed while asleep than tell them that he was toyed with like a rag doll before that stupid Lu Se took advantage and took him back to the northern demon realm.
He was wrong when he said the universe had beef with him. The universe was so generous that it dropped his nemesis on a silver platter with the only thing missing being an apple in his mouth like a roasted pig. His eyes burned with resentment as he shamelessly took the chance for vengeance.
Just as he was about to plunge the dagger into the man’s heart, his wrist was suddenly grabbed. The smile on his face froze his brows furrowed. Before he could free himself, he was yanked forward with more than half his torso inside the coffin. His legs flared in the air as he cursed to the high heavens. He took it back. The universe had something against him. He struggled to loosen the man’s grip but to his shock, he found himself powerless, as weak as a normal human. He gritted his teeth, demanding, "Let me go, you sick bastard!" But the man remained unconscious, his grip unyielding.
"Ah shit!" he cursed when he felt a warm sensation streaming into his spiritual veins from where his wrist was held. He knew the power was harmless to him, but an instinctive dread filled him. He had a strong urge to reject whatever was entering his body. He fought fiercely, but it was as if he were a weak damsel being forcibly taken away.
The sensation spread to his upper dantian and he felt a searing pain on his forehead like something was being etched into his skin. Without warning the man’s grip suddenly loosened, and Xiang Yu staggered back, falling onto his butt. He touched his forehead in disbelief, feeling a strange mark burning into his skin. "What did you do to me?" he yelled as he looked at his fingers after touching his forehead but there was no blood. His fingers were clean.
Having not received an answer his rage boiled over. He got up in a fury, his buns aching from the fall. Without a second thought, he heartlessly kicked the coffin, sending the man inside rolling to the ground. As the man tumbled out, the thick fog that had enveloped the area began to thin, its power source cut off.
In large strides he rushed towards the culprit about to kick him when he noticed a short figure emerging in the thinning mist. The figure, realizing it had been seen, let out a yelp and tried to run. Xiang Yu’s eyes glowed brighter, and with a flick of his wrist, the short legs running away suddenly rose from the ground. The figure was lifted by his invisible force, struggling futilely in mid-air.
As the figure dangled, it tried to put on an imposing appearance, attempting to act tough despite its predicament. "Insolence! Let go of this great one," it said its bellowing voice causing earth tremors but Xiang Yu’s glare intensified, and the figure’s bravado faltered. It was clear now that this was the thing that had kidnapped the women from Xiannu City, using the immortal in the coffin to amplify its power as a ghost king.
"Who are you?" Xiang Yu demanded, his voice cold and commanding.
The figure squirmed, its tough facade crumbling under his piercing gaze. "Hahaha, my lord. This humble one is ghost king Xiao De," it stammered with a nervous laugh, having failed to regain some semblance of authority. "If I had known that this great one wanted girls too, I would have let you have the first pick."
Xiang Yu’s grip tightened, and the small figure winced. "Where are the women you took? Take me to them," he ordered, his tone leaving no room for negotiation. It was either it took him there or it would die a miserable death. He could have tracked the twins himself but he was still dizzied by whatever that bastard did to him.
The Ghost King nodded frantically it’s fear palpable. "Yes, yes, I will take you there! Just please, spare me, my lord!"
Xiang Yu’s eyes narrowed his anger barely contained. "No more tricks otherwise I will make you regret it," he said, his voice low and menacing with a slight quirk on his lips. The Ghost King nodded frantically like a chicken pecking rice before he released him sending the it crashing to the ground.
Xiang Yu glanced back at the man sprawled on the ground. He was still lying there unconscious, his pale complexion a stark contrast to the vibrant surroundings. He was curious to know how this tiny thing that even he could subdue without lifting a finger could take down that fierce bastard. Even in his coma he was still so powerful rendering the almighty Demon King Xiang useless with minimum effort. He had a lot of questions that needed answers but his priority now was Lian and Mei. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
