Chapter 217: Incapable of loving anyone

Xiang Yu walked into his closet, his voice echoing slightly. "I will stay with Old Song for now."

He knew it was impossible to stay with the old man but he still said it. Old Song’s one-bedroom apartment at the clinic couldn’t accommodate four more people. Even if they stayed inside the clinic it would be a tight squeeze. What he really wanted was to stay with Han Xin but he couldn’t just come out and say it.

Han Xin followed him to the closet door and said, "He can’t keep you, little Bai and the girls safe."

Xiang Yu pulled on a t-shirt, his movements deliberate. Because he had his back towards Han Xin, Han Xin didn’t see the smug smile on his face. He was playing right into his trap.

"Then who can keep us safe... you?" he asked with a hint of coquetry in his voice but it was all wasted on this straight man of steel.

Han Xin didn’t respond immediately, so Xiang Yu turned around, finding Han Xin’s intense gaze fixed on him. "Who else?" Han Xin replied.

Feeling a mischievous spirit take hold of him, Xiang Yu said, "Maybe... maybe your brother can protect us. I think he can do a good job."

Han Xin’s face darkened, his voice tight with suppressed emotion. "Didn’t you pledge your loyalty to me?"

Seeing how upset Han Xin was, Xiang Yu stopped teasing. "I did."

Han Xin’s expression softened slightly. "I will protect you. Since you are my people, be good and pack your things."

Xiang Yu couldn’t help but think, ’How domineering,’ a slight smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "Alright," he said, his tone more serious. "I will entrust our safety in your hands... young master Han."

Han Xin visibly relaxed but he couldn’t shake the feeling that he had been preyed on. He brushed the feeling aside and turned to leave. He took two steps and suddenly halted.

He remembered something and walked back to the walk-in closet. "Plus, don’t mention my—" His voice trailed off as he froze, having met Xiang Yu’s naked butt in full view. Xiang Yu was bent over as he took off his underwear. Han Xin quickly turned to walk away his heart beating out of his chest.

Xiang Yu, who had clearly heard Han Xin speaking, turned around and asked, "Your what?" But there was no one there. He just heard his bedroom door shut with a loud bang. He walked to the entrance of his walk-in closet and peeked his head out, calling, "Hello?" But of course, there was no response.

"Uh, that’s strange," Xiang Yu muttered as he walked back into the closet. He glanced at his Hello Kitty themed nails and mumbled, "Dang, I broke a nail, and the other one is chipped. Tsk, what a waste." It seemed he would have to book another appointment to remove the nail polish.

He changed into a tracksuit and walked out of his bedroom. Standing at the top of the stairs, he called out, "Lian, Mei, and Little Bai, pack up your things quickly."

Lian and Mei were sitting at the dining table eating dinner when Xiang Yu called out. Lian took a bite of her potato and yelled, "Coming!" Mei wiped her mouth and got up to go upstairs, while Little Bai peeked his head out of the kitchen. Xiang Yu didn’t see Han Xin and Han Zhan. He didn’t know they were in the kitchen. One looked like he had seen a ghost, and the other one was poking fun at the other. Who was who was easy to tell?

Xiang Yu returned to his bedroom to pack his things when Old Song came up the stairs and followed him in. Old Song knocked softly on the door and entered. He asked, "Where are you going to stay?"

Xiang Yu was in the closet, packing away his clothes in a suitcase. "We are going to stay with Han Xin at his seaside villa. You too, Old Song. I am worried that the Die clan will find out about our relationship and cause trouble for you."

Old Song grabbed Xiang Yu’s arm, his grip firm and eyes intense. "Are you crazy? Your father died because of his father. How can you trust that he wouldn’t do the same thing and use you as a meat shield?"

Xiang Yu was startled by the old man’s outburst. Old Song’s voice softened slightly, but his concern was palpable. "How will I answer your father if anything happens to you?"

Xiang Yu placed a reassuring hand on Old Song’s shoulder. "They aren’t the same. Han Xin isn’t like his father. If he says he will protect me, then he will be bound by his word."

Old Song’s grip loosened as he saw something in Xiang Yu’s eyes. It was a spark he recognised, one he had seen in his own eyes whenever he thought of Xiang Shu. How could this be? How could Xiang Yu be interested in that iceberg? "You... you love him, don’t you?" Old Song exclaimed in a loud whisper.

Xiang Yu’s eyes widened, and he quickly denied it. "Aha ha, uncle, you really misunderstood. Admire him, yes, but love? No, no. Pssht, I am not in love. I am incapable of loving anyone."

The divine emperor in Xiang Yu’s mind chimed in, "At least you are self-aware."

Xiang Yu, "..."

Old Song sighed, sensing that Xiang Yu hadn’t fully accepted his own feelings. "Okay okay... if you ever want to talk, I am here for you."

Old Song knew that dissuading Xiang Yu from being around Han Xin would only have the opposite effect and bring them closer. "Thanks, Uncle Song," Xiang Yu said, his voice sincere.

"That’s what I should do," Old Song replied. He watched Xiang Yu pack for a while before saying, "You might trust Han Xin, but I don’t. But for your sake, I will trust him for now."

Xiang Yu smiled, glancing at Old Song. The old man’s heart softened. "I won’t go with you. You don’t have to worry about me."

Xiang Yu didn’t like the idea of Old Song staying behind, but he knew the old man had his ways. "Please be safe and call me if anything happens," Xiang Yu said.

Old Song patted his shoulder reassuringly. Just then, the door burst open, and Lian and Mei rode in on their ride-on suitcases. "We are ready!" Mei announced, zooming around the room.

Lian followed, yelling, "Weeeee!"

Old Song blinked in surprise. "When did you—"

Before he could finish, Xiang Yu said, "Don’t ask. It’s a long story." He chuckled, shaking his head as he continued packing. It was not a long story. In fact, it was so short. They entered the store, the twins loved the suitcases and what do you know, he bought them, and now they were riding them around as though riding a scooter... the end.
