Trials of the Abyss-Chapter 536: Fey God of the Outer Worlds
Chapter 536: Fey God of the Outer Worlds
Shock could be detected even through Pan Di's empty eye sockets.
"So, that was the Abyss. No wonder I struggled to enter. Heh, the legendary Abyss, the birthplace of the terrifying human race. To think, I was actually so close to it!"
Pan Di sighed a few times as if trying to process the revelation.
"By the way, my name is Pan Di and I come from the Ancient Fey World. I heard there are ancient Fey Race like me in the Abyss?"
The Ancient Fey World!
A Rank Eight Scarlet-Eyed Demon Wolf outside Northern Qi once mentioned that they were called the ancient Fey Race.
The ancient Fey Race were the initial rulers of the Abyss.
The black turtle, the Primordial Serpent, the Celestial Phoenix, and even the Dragon Race were all classified as part of the ancient Fey Race.
In ancient times, the Fey Race towered like mountains and had vast blood essence.
A single member of the ancient Fey Race required several beings of the same level from other races to contend with it.
Fey Gods similarly demanded the combined efforts of multiple Rank Ten warriors or True Gods to rival.
The ancient Fey Race held unparalleled individual combat prowess.
Pang Jian could hardly fathom that a place like the Ancient Fey World existed outside the Abyss. A place where countless members of the ancient Fey Race still lived.
Places with the character "Abyss" in their names were always shrouded in bizarre mist, with barriers that made entry and exit difficult.
On the other hand, those with the character "World" in their names were eternally open, allowing for interaction with the outside world.
Pang Jian had long known that abysses lay hidden within the bizarre mist, while worlds existed beyond it.
Seeing that Pan Di had no intention of starting a battle, Pang Jian decided to speak freely, eager to learn about the outer worlds.
"The Abyss does indeed have members of the ancient Fey Race. In fact, the earliest rulers of the Abyss were beings like you, Fey Gods of the ancient Fey Race."
"Even now, several powerful Fey Gods dominate certain territories within the Abyss."
Pang Jian suddenly thought of the Thunderveil Godbeast. That Thunder God had once served under the Duke of Thunder only to later betray him.
"Is the Thunderveil Godbeast one of your Fey Gods? As far as I know, the Thunderveil Godbeast is also a Thunder God. Have you interacted with him?"
Crackle!
The lightning in Pan Di's eye sockets flared violently as his emotions surged.
"The Thunderveil Godbeast was not born in the Ancient Fey World but the Thunder Abyss," he roared angrily. "Though fundamentally the same as us, he has always allied with other gods to fight against my Ancient Fey World.
"As for me...
"I left the Ancient Fey World and ventured into the bizarre mist to enter the Thunder Abyss.
"The Duke of Thunder is recognized as the first Thunder God in existence. His comprehension of the Dao of Lightning and his creation of the Divine Court of Thunder are what every Thunder God aspires to achieve.
"Even though his tyrannical actions later on provoked widespread condemnation among Thunder Gods and his Divine Court of Thunder eventually left in ruins, the Duke of Thunder's status among us Thunder Gods remains unshakable."
Although Pan Di was part of a newer generation of Thunder Gods, he still appeared to hold genuine respect for the Duke of Thunder.
"I originally intended to seek out the ruins of the Divine Court of Thunder within the Thunder Abyss to elevate my understanding of the Dao of Lightning. However, I became lost in the bizarre mist enshrouding the Thunder Abyss.
"There's no sense of direction in the bizarre mist, nor any distinction between up and down. There's not even energy for me to absorb.
"I couldn't find a way out and was subject to the constant erosion of the bizarre mist. I don't even know how many years have passed since I got lost.
"I have no idea where the Gods of the human race are hiding. They had already been gone for a long while when I entered the bizarre mist.
"The Gods of the human race once shone with unmatched brilliance in the starry skies. Your kind helped shoulder a great deal of the burden for our Ancient Fey World.
"I've heard that many Outer Gods are residing above the Abyss so they can hunt the Gods of the human race down as soon as they break free of the Abyss.
"Nearly every newly-emerged human race God has been killed," Pan Di continued to ramble, feeling talkative after many years without another intelligent being to converse with.
From his explanations, Pang Jian roughly grasped the reason Pan Di bore him no hostility. It seemed the human race and the ancient Fey Race outside the Abyss were in similar predicaments.
The Outer Gods in the starry skies hunted both the True Gods of the human race and the Fey Gods of the ancient Fey Race.
The human race had risen to dominance in the Abyss, exiling the other races into the Fifth World and repeatedly thwarting their ascension plans.
However, the situation was reversed in the starry skies.
The true rulers of the vast starry expanse were still the Outer Gods.
Powerful True Gods of the human race were nothing more than thorns in the sides of the Outer Gods. After the Hall of Gods was destroyed, the Outer Gods united to eradicate the True Gods of the human race, hunting them across the starry skies.
Outer Gods waited in ambush just outside the Abyss, ready to strike any True God that broke through the barrier to prevent the resurgence of the human race.
The plight of the ancient Fey Race in the Ancient Fey World was far less dire than that of the human race. While suppressed and weakened, they were not subjected to complete extermination.
As a Fey God of the Ancient Fey World, Pan Di held a favorable impression and a certain level of admiration for the True Gods of the human race for destroying the Hall of Gods and stirring great upheavals in the starry skies.
This was also why Pan Di was willing to answer Pang Jian's questions and share his knowledge after realizing that Pang Jian was a newly-ascended True God of the human race.
"How many abysses exist within the bizarre mist? Do they contain powerful beings? Are there any forces within these worlds capable of contending with the Outer Gods?" Pang Jian questioned.
"I'm not sure how many such worlds exist. The ones I know of include the Shadow Abyss, the Fire Abyss, the Ghost Abyss, the Thunder Abyss, the Nether Abyss, the Demon Abyss, and the Celestial Abyss.
"The bizarre mist is boundless, and the worlds hidden within it certainly exceed this number. Generally speaking, the beings from these abysses are far more terrifying than those outside.
"Many of the high-ranking Gods of the Ghost Race, the Great Demon Gods of the Demon Races, and the Gods of the Celestial Race were born in these abysses.
"They escaped from them the same way your True Gods ascended to soar through the vast starry skies. They shine ever more brilliantly in the broader starry expanse and grow increasingly formidable after breaking free.
"An abyss is a prison, and to escape it naturally means having extraordinary capabilities. Gods ascended within abysses are often more powerful than those born in the worlds in the starry skies," Pan Di candidly explained.
Pang Jian listened attentively but chose not to reveal that his physical body held the ruined Divine Court of Thunder.
Recalling Pan Di's attempt to breach the boundary wall nearby, he asked, "The abyss you kept trying to breach but failed to enter, do you know its name? Do you know which abyss it is?"
Pan Di was startled. "You could see me from this far away?"
Pang Jian nodded.
"The bizarre mist doesn't affect your divine soul and divine power?"

"It seems they aren't really affected."
"And this divine body of yours, it doesn't suffer corrosion from the bizarre mist?"
"Correct."
Thunder God Pan Di fell silent.
In his eyes, Pang Jian was a terrifying anomaly. Pang Jian could adapt to the harsh environment of the bizarre mist despite only being a fledgling god.
If Pan Di had been as unaffected as Pang Jian, he likely would not have ended up lost in the bizarre mist with his body corroded away.
After a long pause, Pan Di said, "No one can truly know which one it is without entering it. For example, I once tried to break through the barrier of the Abyss without realizing it was the Abyss."
"I'd like to explore it," Pang Jian said. "This is my first time truly leaving the Abyss. If you're not occupied, why not come with me? Let's see if we can find a way in."
Pan Di shook his head. "I can't get in. I only prepared enough to enter the Thunder Abyss, but not long after entering the bizarre mist, I used up all my preparations in a battle."
"A battle?" Pang Jian asked. "With what kind of being?"
"With other lost beings in the bizarre mist, of course. The bizarre mist harbors other beings and anomalies beyond just me. However, encounters are rare. It could take decades, centuries, or even millennia to meet another. Time has no meaning here, and I have no way to measure it, so I can't say for certain."
Pang Jian fell silent as his thoughts drifted to his father.
His father had just mysteriously disappeared one day, but Pang Jian had always believed that his father was still alive.
Perhaps his father had become lost in the bizarre mist after leaving the Abyss like Pan Di. Or perhaps his father had broken free of the Abyss, only to be forced into hiding under the pursuit of the Outer Gods.
"I can accompany you if you truly wish to take a look," Pan Di eventually offered, breaking the silence. "If we manage to enter, I could replenish some strength and potentially extend my life."
Pan Di was nearing the end of his reserves and would likely be reduced to a lifeless corpse adrift in the bizarre mist in just a few decades.
Death was inevitable if he did not find a path to survival soon.
Pan Di had been restraining his inner desires since discovering that Pang Jian was a God of the human race.
However, he was not yet desperate enough to risk asking due to Pang Jian's mysterious aura and background as a member of the human race.
"Then let's go take a look," Pang Jian said, Immortal Divine Soul soaring forward.
Pan Di silently followed behind, the lightning within his eye sockets brightening ever so slightly. Even the faintest glimmer of hope was something he could never abandon after spending so long teetering on the brink of despair.
