Chapter 28: Chapter 28:Academy Travels [1]

Walking past the two girls into the slightly more crowded bar area, I found a single table in the corner with two chairs facing each other.

Taking the chair against the wall, I almost instinctively took off my cloak before realizing it was the only thing concealing my identity as a demon.

If my disguise was revealed in a crowded place like this, my death would be instant.

Sighing, I sat down and after only a couple of seconds, I was approached by one of the few waiters running around.

"Anything to eat for you tonight?"

Nodding my head, I thought for a moment before simply throwing out one of my favorite meals back on Earth.

"A New York strip steak cooked medium rare?"

Surprisingly, the waiter nodded his head, completely understanding my order, and replied.

"That’ll be a silver coin."

After I handed over the coin, the waiter scurried off to another table, leaving me alone with my thoughts.

When I had transmigrated, I had expected to have extreme problems with language, as I would have to learn the tongue of this world.

However, somehow, I already knew it.

When I communicated regularly, as if speaking English back on Earth, other people just understood my words.

Perhaps, the language of this world was English, or my brain was simply auto-translating everything I think and say.

I didn’t even have any trouble understanding the other people in this world as they seemed to just speak English to me.

Snapping me out of my trance, I felt the table vibrate in front of me, and when I looked up, a neatly plated steak, coated with butter, was waiting for me.

Just as I picked up the knife, the waiter approached me once again, this time with a glass mug filled with a fizzy orange substance.

Not waiting for my reaction, the water placed the mug on the table, smiled, and said.

"It comes with the meal."

Was there no legal age requirement for drinking in this world?

Even if there wasn’t, I wasn’t some deprived child who was going to go crazy now that there were no parents around.

Confused, I pushed aside the glass of beer and dug into my steak, enjoying its tender and soft flavor.

I was actually so engrossed with my steak that I failed to notice that someone had taken the chair across from me.

Or perhaps, Liana was simply too good of an assassin for me to notice her presence.

As a dry cough sounded from in front of me, I finally looked up, making eye contact with Liana and smiling.

"If it’s about the academy, I’ve already made enough for the gate fee."

Placing her elbow on the table and resting her head against the palm of her hand, she simply nodded and pointed behind her.

And there, in the distance, past Liana, I could see another familiar figure approaching our table, dragging a chair behind her.

Sliding her chair in the middle of the table, Evangel casually took a seat before placing her bowl of noodles on the table and digging in.

Liana had probably dragged her to the table, not allowing her to sit alone after finding out she also attended Glaive.

Although Evangel’s sweet scent brought me some relief amongst the terrible smell of the humans around me, the stress the hero caused me was equally bad.

As I prepared to immediately depart, Liana chuckled and said.

"I seem to have some interesting juniors with me, today."

"One of them managed to defeat a C-rank troll alone...and the other just doesn’t know when to stop drinking."

At those words, Evangel silently glanced up from the table, pausing her gaze on the sparkling glass filled with an orange liquid.

Shocking both Liana and I, Evangel then spoke her first words of the hour and asked.

"What does it taste like?"

Not even giving me a chance to respond, Liana immediately took the glass away from me and replied.

"It tastes like shit, so don’t ever drink it, ok?"

Glancing away from the bottle and returning her gaze to the bowl of noodles in front of her, Evangel slowly replied.

"Ok..."

Shrugging my shoulders and standing up, I added.

"It makes you do weird things...things that you would never do before."

Finally, picking up my remaining coins, I exited the bar and began walking back toward the town gates.

Although the marketplace would have the greatest volume of magical artifacts, they probably wouldn’t have the specific appearance-hiding and smell-blocking ones I needed.

Instead, they would most likely carry flashy weapon artifacts like swords, shields, axes, bows, and spears.

After looking through windows for some time, I finally spotted a shop with a couple of ring artifacts on display.

Turning left, I pushed open the creaky doors of the shop, immediately entering a dimly lit room with tons of disorganized shelves everywhere.

It was like a maze; I couldn’t walk forward for more than two steps without bumping into anything.

"Hoot~hoot"

Surprising me, an animal-like sound came from my right, prompting me to turn and immediately see an owl.

Sitting inside a massive golden cage, that was my height, with the door open, the owl perched atop a piece of wood while staring at me.

"Hoot~hoot"

Flapping its wings, the owl stared at me with its bulging eyes for a moment before finally flying out of its cage and disappearing into the maze of shelves.

Walking around the shop, I followed the written signs on the ceiling to the appearance section and quickly found the hair area.

In front of me lay dozens of golden rings, each with a small piece of paper in front that briefly described its purpose and how to use it.

[Don’t want to wear a wing? Wear this ring! Transform your shiny bald head into one full of lush hair, today! Simply imagine what you’d like your hairstyle to be.]

Glancing to my left and right, I picked up the ring and slowly walked towards one of the mirrors in the area.

Sliding on the golden ring, I imagined the haircut I wanted, immediately feeling my head grow heavier, and walked toward a nearby mirror.

And there, in front of me, lay a pale-skinned teenager with brown hair practically leaking out of his hood and onto his face.

There was just one problem...
