Transmigrated as the Novel's Final Boss-Chapter 104:Practical Preparation [5]
Chapter 104: Chapter 104:Practical Preparation [5]
The atmosphere was relatively calm, considering there was an exam today, so I filled up a plate before heading to the kitchen to eat in silence.
I could have sat with Liam and Zeke’s group or even Charlotte and Scarlett’s squadron, but there was nothing to be gained there.
Leaning against the counter, I dug into the scrambled eggs and bacon, gazing out the window, I had jumped out not even a week ago.
It was far easier to be alone, at least in my mind.
When talking with Mira, Evangel, or the others, I’d always have to worry about keeping my disguise on or secrets hidden.
This was how it should be.
By limiting my social interactions to small hallway conversations during the day, I kept everyone at arm’s length, not letting anyone get too close.
Perhaps, if I had transmigrated as some unknown background character instead of the demon king, things could have been different, but there was no point in wondering about "what ifs."
After placing the empty plate in the sink, I walked toward the dorm’s exit, scanning the common room one last time as I passed.
Mira could be seen sitting with a small group of background characters, who I believed were named Angela and Bianca, while Xero had joined Liam and Zeke.
When I returned from class on Tuesday, my door had been replaced, which confused me greatly and prevented me from taking any action against the culprits.
I had expected Professor Snape to tell me there was a "delay" in the shipment, but surprisingly, he kept to his word, repairing my door.
Since then, Xero and his followers had done nothing else to me, so perhaps Snape had actually taken action against them.
If I had to guess, someone on Glaive’s administration team was closely monitoring Snape’s actions.
As my surroundings shifted and a gust of cold wind enveloped me, I looked down and zipped up my jacket.
The exam was supposed to start in thirty minutes at the edge of the first-year quadrant, so I found a bench within the nearby forest to sit on.
...
...
...
As I walked into the massive plain, filled with hundreds of students, I paused and stepped back, doing a double-take.
Why were there Worldly class students here...?
Had something I had done caused the Imperial class practical exam to change?
Looking around, I spotted Liam, Zeke, Xero, and some students circled up; however, they didn’t seem surprised in the least.
Was I missing something?
Snapping me out of my thoughts, a thundering and sharp voice sounded from the front of the area where a professor I couldn’t recognize stood.
"Attention, all students! Attention, all students!"
In an instant, the entire plain went silent, not even the Worldly class students daring to speak.
For both Imperial and Worldly class students, this exam was a big deal.
This would be where students’ individual rankings would be determined and where futures would be destroyed...and made.
The higher rank you achieved in Glaive, the more likely a military group was to recruit you and pay you more.
"Welcome to your first and far from last Glaive Academy Practical Exam!"
After giving the students a second and making sure all attention was gathered on him, the professor with black eyes, circular glasses, and white sideburns immediately continued in a sharp tone.
"Please listen to the following instructions carefully. They will not be repeated."
Sighing, I honed my ears and stepped into the crowd of students.
With the book’s plot changed, it seemed like I was going to be on equal ground with all the other students for this exam.
"For this Practical Exam, there will be twenty Imperial groups and thirty Worldly groups to make teams equal.
"Each Imperial group will contain one Imperial class student and four Worldly students, whereas the Worldly group will contain seven Worldly students."
They equated an Imperial class student to three Worldly class students?
I’d say, considering the surplus of talent in the Imperial class this year, especially, an Imperial first-year would equal five to six Worldly class students on average.
Of course, this average was greatly increased by the likes of Evangel, Liam, Charlotte, Zeke, and Xero.
"Groups will be assigned randomly, but keep in mind, in the future, practical groups will be decided by individual rankings."
Pausing, the professor pointed to his right and snapped his fingers.
In the next moment, a gigantic gust of wind, enough to cover the plain, blew against the crowd of over 250 students.
The wind was so strong that the students nearest to the front were quite literally knocked off their feet and blown back a yard.
Thankfully, being near the rear of the crowd, I managed to avoid the chaos and only had my hair blown back.
However, when I looked forward again, dozens of portals, all colored a dark purple, were lined up horizontally next to the professor.
There were ten portals in total.
After giving the students time to gather their breath and even stand back up, the professor smirked and announced.
"Five groups will enter each portal; the portal your group decides to enter is up to you."
"Inside the portal, you will enter a random artificial environment, ranging from a desert to an iceberg, where a C-ranked dungeon boss is lurking."
"Upon entrance to your portal, all of you will receive a detailed description of the beast."
"The groups in the portal that defeat their portal’s respective boss beast in the least amount of time will be ranked first, and the groups in the second portal to defeat the boss will get second."
"As for individual rankings, they will be determined by your team’s overall and your individual contribution to taking down the boss alongside your portal’s placement in the exam."
Letting out a sigh of relief, I glanced around the crowd of students.
Thankfully, the main idea of the Practical Exam had remained the same; only the addition of the Worldly class students was different.
