Chapter 49: Chapter 49 : Butterfly effect part 4

The djinn was quick to react. With incredible speed, his knife rose and in the blink of an eye he launched it at me, the dangerous edge of his dagger tearing through the air like a storm, seeking my neck, but I was already expecting it.

With a slight twist, I slid my sword to the side, blocking the attack just before it reached me.

"Clag..."

The clash of metals resonated with a force that made the walls vibrate. The violent demonic energy emanating from his dagger collided with the light of my sword, creating an explosion of sparks and energy that illuminated the room like lightning. But I was at a disadvantage, the impact pushed me back, I barely managed to maintain control, and immediately, I took another step forward, unleashing a rain of fast and furious blows. I had to hold on as long as possible, reinforcements would not be long in coming.

The djinn moved with incredible agility, sliding from side to side, his knife cutting through the air as if it were an extension of his own body. I was already at my limit, I couldn’t hold on any longer, but I couldn’t help but collapse as if a strange energy was preventing me from falling. I withstood each attack of his knife, some grazed my arms, my neck, the wounds on my body were piling up. Still, my sword continued to block and counter with precision. The ground shook with each clash, and the room was filled with the sound of colliding metal.

With a scream of rage, the djinn wrapped his dagger in a thick demonic energy that seemed to swallow everything around him and launched an attack, a downward blow that promised to end everything. I saw the danger in time and, with a quick movement, I crouched, sliding across the floor with unexpected agility. The djinn’s knife passed over my head, and stuck in the place where he had been, in that instant, cutting through the floor, the mark of a blade splitting the marble.

Taking advantage of the opening, I attacked. The blue light of my sword turned into a bolt of lightning, cutting through his defense with a speed impossible to dodge. The edge of my sword cut through the air and, in a second, penetrated the djinn’s flesh. A heart-rending scream came from his mouth as thick black blood splattered my face.

The djinn staggered back, his body beginning to decompose. The thick demonic energy had begun to contaminate the surroundings, as if the very essence of the creature was going to overflow and dye this world. His knife fell to the ground, limp, and before he could say another word, the djinn vanished in a cloud of darkness, leaving only the void where he had once been.

Breathing heavily, my sword transformed back into my bracelet, the energy still humming in my hands. The atmosphere in the room cleared, and the pressure I felt in the air began to disappear, somehow I had logged it, if I hadn’t bathed my bracelet in holy water before, perhaps, I would have died today. I looked at the princess, who was hiding in a corner, watching everything in silence, her eyes full of wonder, looking at me with concern.

"It’s... it’s over," I said, my voice hoarse, although with a sigh of relief. I was exhausted, my body hurt like hell.

But I knew this wasn’t over. As I thought about what to do next, the sound of hurried footsteps took me out of my thoughts and made me nervous again, I had barely survived what had happened, but if another one came, I wouldn’t make it this time. Anxiety ran through my body, and a cold sweat began to soak my skin.

I stood guard, staring at the door, and signaled the princess to stay hidden. My breathing was heavy but I tried to stay as calm as possible. As the footsteps came closer, the tension was almost unbearable. Each footstep on the floor made the weight on my chest increase. I knew that any wrong move could be fatal.

Finally, the door creaked open. A group of burly men, dressed in heavy steel armor, and covered up to their faces with battle helmets, entered the room. The sound of their boots hitting the floor echoed in my ears. When I saw them, I was able to let out an involuntary sigh, releasing the tension that had been consuming me all this time.

At that moment, the damage I had accumulated took its toll on me. My body, exhausted from the pain, gave out. I collapsed to the ground, gasping for air and my vision starting to blur. My heart was pounding, while my mind tried to stay awake, but it was useless. My breathing was labored, and my body was almost on the verge of collapse, making me feel like I was trapped in a swamp.

The princess seemed to realize the gravity of the situation. She ran towards me quickly, but the noise of the approaching guards was deafening. At that moment, one of the royal soldiers approached with a firm step. His silver armor shone weakly in the light, while his fixed and determined gaze pierced me. I could feel how intimidating his presence was.

With a quick gesture, the captain of the guards, seeing the black blood spread around the place, gave an order to his men. "Watch out for him! Attention!" he said in a deep and authoritative voice. The others rushed to surround me. The princess, noticing this, tried to stop them, but it was in vain, she was being forcibly pushed away. At that moment, one of the soldiers raised his sword, and the metal blade shone dangerously, pointing towards my chest. His face, partially covered by the helmet, did not show any emotion, he was just following the commander’s orders.

The princess, seeing that she could not prevent the tragedy, screamed desperately. "No! Leave her alone!" she pleaded. Chaos broke out, and my strength completely faded away. Darkness enveloped me and I finally fainted on the ground.

The process was almost immediate. The loss of oxygen, combined with mental and physical exhaustion, made everything fade quickly. There was not a second of struggle, only a deep emptiness. The last thing I managed to hear was the princess’s plea when everything else went black.
