Chapter 213: Chapter 213: I Can Still Salvage It
The lower three floors of the entire hotel were covered by Chen Ke’s Spiritual Vision. In his field of view, scattered here and there, were a few human-shaped figures, distributed in corners of various rooms, as well as on the stairs.
Chen Ke and Sam, holding their guns, carefully stepped over the bodies of survivors as they made their way upstairs.

“Save me… save me…” At the corner on the second floor, a woman stuck out half of her body from the corner of the wall, lying on the ground and wailing. The low moan just now had come from her.
Sam dashed forward, intending to help the woman up, but once he charged up the stairs, he froze in place.
Chen Ke followed and turned the corner, only to see that the woman on the ground had only half of her body left. A section of her spine was attached to flesh and entrails piled on the floor, with the lower half of her body lying five meters away.
“You’ll get better…” Sam squatted beside the woman, taking her blood-stained hand, and comforted her.
“Going to be okay… okay…” The woman’s voice grew softer and, in the end, she finally quieted down.
Chen Ke didn’t know how long she had been holding on for. Human spiritual power and physical strength were actually very formidable. A cockroach could live a week without its head, and although humans aren’t that extreme, as long as there is a sliver of belief and they weren’t decapitated or pierced through the heart, holding on for more than ten hours wasn’t out of the question.
Sam’s eyes reddened and his teeth gnashed angrily. He was muddled by rage and sorrow, now only wanting to find Ying Baiyi to demand an explanation.
Chen Ke surveyed the corpses at the scene. The lower three floors were uninhabited, and the survivors had all been settled on the fourth, fifth, and sixth floors, where most of the bodies were concentrated around the stairs, with a few scattered in corners.
All signs indicated that these people were trying to flee downwards. In their panic, some hid in rooms or corridors on the lower three floors, hoping to avoid danger.
Chen Ke’s brows were tightly knitted. He felt this wasn’t Ying Baiyi’s doing because one person’s killing efficiency was limited, unless he was coldly and calmly going from room to room, assassinating and cleaning up. Otherwise, it would be impossible to kill so many people all at once.
Surely, monsters must have breached the hotel from above, and the survivors, fleeing in disarray, couldn’t overcome the sheer number of monsters and ultimately died on the run.
Suddenly, Chen Ke had a bad premonition. Something had happened in the hotel, and Ying Baiyi and Diana would have been at the forefront. Now that so many survivors were dead… hadn’t they gone cold…?
Those already dead could not be detected by Spiritual Vision, and the agonizing survivors were on the brink of death.
“We can’t help them… Their injuries are too severe. What’s most urgent now is to find Ying Baiyi and Diana,” Chen Ke said, patting Sam on the shoulder.
“Right… we need to find them…” Sam pulled himself together and followed Chen Ke up the stairs.
Along the way, they still saw some dying survivors, but it was no use; with the severity of the injuries and the medical means at Chen Ke and Sam’s disposal, there was no way to help them.
Flesh wounds were one thing, but with severed limbs, bodies bisected at the waist, and exposed organs… Chen Ke didn’t want to leave them to die, yet this was beyond his ability.
With heavy hearts, they moved stealthily upwards. Even with Spiritual Vision, Chen Ke didn’t dare to be careless, because besides humans, those human shapes could also be monsters. He didn’t know what had caused the situation here; maybe monsters were still lurking.
Finally, at the location of a room on the sixth floor, Chen Ke saw shadows of seven people. Some of them were sitting still, some were quietly peeking out the window, and one was lying on the floor, seemingly injured from their posture.
“Here,” Chen Ke said and ran toward the room closer to the corridor.
The door wouldn’t budge, as if it was blocked by something inside—no wonder they had survived.
Staying rational and calm in danger allowed one to live longer than others; blind fleeing and shouting were not wise actions. That would only expose oneself.
Chen Ke knocked on the door. There was no response from the inside; this group was smart enough to stay silent.
“It’s me, there are no monsters outside anymore, you can open the door,” Chen Ke whispered.
“Are you the Asian young man who went out to get medicine?” someone inside responded, and the voice belonged to a young man.
“Yes, it’s me, Chen Ke, and Sam, we’ve returned,” Chen Ke said.
There was the sound of heavy objects being moved inside, and shortly after, the door cracked open. The figure of a white young man appeared in the gap, with his blue eyes scanning the outside in terror.
“It’s quite safe outside now. Have you seen Diana and Ying Baiyi?” Chen Ke asked.
The young man didn’t speak but pulled the door open further to let the two men in. As he stepped aside, Chen Ke caught sight of Diana lying on the floor. Even without a heart, he felt a jolt in his chest.
Diana was covered in blood, her eyes closed tightly, her clothes nearly torn to shreds, and several frightening scratch wounds had slowly begun to scab over.
The survivors didn’t dare to move her, and because they feared the wounds would fester and become infected, they didn’t cover her with anything like a blanket. Instead, they had placed two large bottles of milk and mineral water beside her to keep her hydrated.
“Diana… damn it, why…” Sam trembled.
Chen Ke squatted down next to Diana and reached out to check for her breath. Suddenly, Diana grabbed Chen Ke’s wrist, giving him quite a fright.
“What are you trying to do…?” Diana asked, her voice hoarse and weak.
“To see if you were dead,” Chen Ke said.
“I can still be saved… Did you bring back medicine…?” Diana opened one eye.
“Your wounds need stitching, but I didn’t bring back any sutures, nor do I know how to sew,” Chen Ke shook his head.
“It’s okay… I can make do… Ah…” Diana sighed and groaned in pain.
Sleep is the oldest method all species have to combat pain, and the self-healing ability of organisms is actually very strong.
“You, help her bandage the wounds,” Chen Ke looked up at a blond woman next to him. She seemed to be under 30, wearing black-framed glasses and a striped T-shirt.
“Me?” the woman was somewhat panicked.
Chen Ke nodded his head.
Diana’s upper body was like a piece of pork butchered by a random knife. To bandage her properly, it was unavoidable to remove her vest and jacket. It’d be better for a woman to handle this.
“I’m queasy with blood… Sir, I can assist you from the side,” the woman said.
“How about you…” Chen Ke wiped the sweat from his forehead and looked to another woman.
That woman shook her head as well; she couldn’t even bear to look at the wounds on Diana’s body.
The rest were males, along with two children. Here, only Chen Ke and Diana were somewhat acquainted.
Chen Ke looked at the wounds on Diana’s body, which were indeed frightening. Had it not been for his constant killing recently, he would have also hesitated to look if it were the past.
