Chapter 726: Side Story 4. Endless Journey - 9

When the weather started to get a little bit chilly and the leaves on the mountain started to turn red, the twins were moving through the dark.

They woke up with their Dada and Baba kissing their faces, picking up their sleepy head from their little bed. They felt their body swayed in their parents’ arms. Through blurry, sleepy eyes, they saw the same scenery as last year and the year before: the dark morning grass and the soft glowing garden lamp, the bright red paint of the lighthouse.

Kar raised his head first, holding on to his Baba’s neck. A warm blanket covered him, keeping him warm as the cold wind of the dawn blew toward his face. Thankfully, Baba’s hand shielded him from the wind, until Asa rubbed his eyes and woke up after Dada’s patient whispers.

At that time, through the gap between his Baba’s fingers, Kar could see a golden dot. When Baba’s hand moved away, Kar could see the golden dot spread through the horizon, creating a sharp line that became softer and larger with each passing second.

"Waaah!" Asa raised his arms high, already energetic just a few seconds after waking up. "It’s like Baba’s and Aca’s eyes!"

"Kar also," Dada stroked the older twin’s right cheek, right below the amber eye.

"Isn’t it pretty?" Baba laughed.

"Pleetty!"

Soon, the golden light got larger and higher, and the dark violet sky turned bluer and bluer. Kar and Asa widened their eyes, still amazed at the changes even after seeing the scenery several times already.

"Now it’s Dada’s eyes," Kar muttered with a rare smile. After all, it was one of his eyes too.

When they were still gawking at the changing sky, Dada and Baba patted their arm, pointing at the brightening sea.

"Look," Baba pointed at a ship sailing alone in the middle of the sea. Something seemed to be coming out of its metal hatch, sparkling in the still-dim sea. "It’s from your Uncle Dee."

A set of fireworks, bursting brilliantly, was forming two words to greet the sunrise.

"Ha...pp..." Kar narrowed his eyes.

"Happy Biltday!" Asa, who could read simple stuff already, shrieked happily. "It’s Kal and Aca’s biltday!"

"That’s right," Zein chuckled and kissed his son’s cheek. "Happy birthday, my little guys."

"Aca not little!"

"Kal not little too--aaah!" Kar squirmed when his Baba showered him with kisses and laughter.

The laughter continued until they climbed down the lighthouse. Asa and--even--Kar laughed and raced to their house, rushing through the grass and the garden. They were dodging the sunlight and running from shade to shade, sliding through the kitchen door and surprising Ayya, who was still cooking their birthday breakfast.

Right on time! Kar and Asa could request what they wanted to eat for breakfast. They stared at their Baba expectantly, and Baba finally agreed to make them a tower of souffle pancakes--sweet for Asa and savory for Kar.

Oh, what a fun day a birthday is! Both Dada and Baba held back from scolding them, even when they ran across the hallway. But then again, it didn’t seem like a very grown-up thing to do in the day when they became older, so Kar caught Asa’s hand and forced his brother to walk normally.

"Asa, we’re four now. We can’t act rowdy like a child," Kar whispered.

"Leally? But we’le still childlen, Kal..."

"You say you not little anymore."

"Oh, light! Big people can’t act like childlen?"

"Yeah," Kar nodded, and the twins started to walk slower while holding hands.

Behind them, their Dada and Baba were on the floor, pressing their lips with shaking shoulders, holding back their laughter. Ah...their boys were truly adorable to no end.

To prove that they were grown up, the twins even attempted to bathe by themselves and helped each other get dressed. It took an hour of effort and at least four failures where they had to start everything from the start, but they did come down all ready and received a standing ovation from Dada, Baba, Ayya, the nannies, and the house staff.

"How clever," Dada smiled and patted their head, secretly folding their collar.

"Oh, Young Masters are very handsome!" the staff did not hesitate to give their compliments.

After all, it was true. With two dashing parents, any genes they received would be superior--at least look-wise.

Asa happily twirled in his mini combat uniform--what they had been asking their Dada and Baba after seeing those cool black leather coats. Despite their growing period, their Baba did not spare any resources and procured drake leather to be turned into their coat.

The coat would probably be unusable by next year, but seeing the pride and happiness in his boys’ faces, Bassena couldn’t care less.

What was wealth if not to be used for his husband and children?

"Oh, oh--look at that! You’re looking like proper sentinels!" Uncle Shin suddenly arrived while carrying Nari, who immediately squirmed so she could get down and ran toward the twins.

"Yuk, yuuk--Nayi weal cot chuu!" Like Asa earlier, Nari twirled and let the wide bottom of her white coat flutter like a dress.

Naturally, since the twins’ coats were made by SavAsh, Nari found out and asked for a matching one. It was more of an autumn coat rather than a combat-looking one, but in the children’s eyes, they looked all the same.

"Oh! We match! We match!" Asa jumped up and down, taking Nari’s hands, and they danced around the living room with their black and white coats. freewёbnoνel.com

Kar, meanwhile, was walking toward the baby in Aunt Rei’s arms. "Byul!"

"Yes, Byul is here," Aunt Rei laughed and crouched so Kar could see her baby. The round black eyes blinked at Kar, and Aunt Rei brought the tiny hand to touch Kar’s cheek. "Happy birthday, brother Kar."

As if understood, the two-month-old baby cooed opened his tiny mouth, and moved his head. "Uuu..."

Kar gasped. Asa also gasped and rushed toward the baby. "Baby make sound..." they muttered in amazement, and Nari giggled proudly--because she had heard the sound first!

"Wow..."

The birthday boys continued to gush out about the baby, almost as if it was Byeol’s birthday instead. It persisted until Uncle Dee and Uncle Joon came, and everyone finally moved to the dining room, where a big fruit cake with all kinds of Kar and Asa’s favorite fruit decorated it grandly.

Four tall and big candles were on top of the cake. They had to be tall and big because each carried both Kar and Asa’s age. The twins stood on the chair with special permission from Dada, and Baba lit the candles. Once all four candles were lit, their surroundings suddenly turned dark, even though it was bright outside.

Of course, it was Baba’s power.

Nari giggled fearlessly, thinking that the shadow dancing across the twins’ faces was interesting. Her father started to clap, and the twins’ Dada sang a happy birthday song with his beautiful voice.

Asa grinned and was about to blow the candle when his older twin held his hand tightly and halted his movement. "We have to make wish first," Kar whispered, prompting Asa to gasp and nod quickly. "Remember last night."

"Aca lemembel!" Asa nodded again, making the adults look at them in intrigue.

Even Dada and Baba looked at each other curiously. They had no idea what their rascals were planning, but the twins had already closed their eyes while facing the cake. They opened their eyes after five seconds, however, so it didn’t seem like a very complicated wish.

"Wan, chuu!"

Nari counted the moment the twins opened their eyes, and the boys blew the candles until the room became dark again. With a snap of Baba’s fingers, however, the darkness was gone and everyone clapped for the birthday boy--even Uncle Dee.

The children giggled, and Kar asked if he could be the one cutting the cake this time. Reluctantly, Baba agreed--but still supervising Kar closely. While Kar was busy cutting the cake with squinting, focused eyes, Uncle Shin asked curiously.

"What wish did you make earlier?"

Asa, who had started snacking on the fruit before the cake finished being cut, replied lightheartedly. "Kal and Aca ask for a sistel!"

"Wow," Uncle Dee laughed and glanced at the twins’ parents. "How about it, Baba?"

For once, Baba did not cough or groan. He simply glanced at Dada, who replied with a smile. "Boys," Dada called out, and Kar paused the children’s knife in his hand. "Is that really what you were wishing for?"

"Yes, Dada," Kar answered calmly.

"Well," Dada leaned on the table, smiling prettily at the twins. "It seems like your wish will come true."

Kar blinked, and Asa tilted his head. "What you mean, Dada?"

"You’ll have a sibling," Baba told them. "In eight months."

Kar dropped his knife, and Asa dropped the grape he had been eating. Both Aunt Rein and Uncle Shin gasped while Uncle Dee and Joon chuckled in response.

"We’re not certain about the gender yet, but I’m sure it’ll be a girl," Dada added.

"Gil? Sistel?" Nari jumped on her seat. "Nayi ’ave nyu sistel?"

"New Sistel!"

"New Sister!"

Forgetting the cake and the fruit, the children ran around the dining table, laughing and shrieking in delight. It was the best gift ever!
