The Young master's fake bride and her lucky system-Chapter 615: New possibilities.
Chapter 615: New possibilities.
Alix noticed and leaped off the beam, focusing her eyes on her husband like a dragon stalking prey. She did not want him going anywhere without her following the kidnapping so she flew out to meet him, landing directly in front of him.
Caishen hugged her first and he exhaled deeply with relief.
"Are you okay?" the question poured out of his mouth like tension being released from muscles.
"I am O." she answered. "I was scared Caishen, so scared. Did they hurt you?"
"I am your husband sister hulk, nobody can hurt me. They stuck a needle in the back of my neck and stuffed me into a suitcase. I pretended to be unconscious and allowed them lead me anyway. Bi Cang, Aang and others have been tracking me. I could never walk into danger blindly knowing that it would cause you to cry and worry."
His hands roamed over her back for a while longer and then he let her go. Immediately, he moved his right hand onto her stomach, moving it around in circles.
"How the mischievous brats?"
"Kicking, bouncing and making my bladder uncomfortable as always. Are you going after the doctor fellow?"
Caishen nodded and he suddenly lifted her up so easily, then he faced forward and carried her past the remaining few bureau hosts that were scanning the outside of the house and collecting information. No doubt everything in this place would be investigated, including the grass, soil, flowers, food, birds and insects. The bureau was not going to leave anything to chance.
They made way for him and he darted into the flower fields, heading in the direction of the miracle doctor. Alix planned to have Mafan scoop him up directly.
Just as they left, the captain and prosecutor general arrived with Aang’s help. Both wanted to speak to Caishen but he was gone and so was Alix.
The captain moved on to the next best choice, he gestured at Mantis to get down from the beam and she obeyed.
"Sir." She addressed him respectfully.
"Where is she?" he asked directly.
No pleasantries or praises for a job well done with zero casualties on their side. He was the same as ever, cold, stern and direct. Mantis did not want to lie, there was no point anyway and Alix had not asked her to cover for her. She pointed in the direction Alix and Caishen had gone.
The prosecutor general butted in and he praised Mantis. He looked at her with kind eyes and put a hand on her shoulder.
"You have done a wonderful job, the whole team has been excellent lately. I cannot believe that we have been searching high and low for these headquarters and it was here all along." He looked out at the beautiful fields of flowers in the distance.
Tourists were packed in the area, taking pictures, full of joy and laughter.
"It is actually the perfect place if you think about it. They can blend in with the tourists easily and members of the dark side organization can parade around easily as tourists and no one would be the wiser. Ha! They have been doing this right under our nose. I can only imagine how much they mocked our attempts to locate them." He snorted and smiled at Mantis one last time before heading inside to take a look.
Aang followed him and Mantis was left with the captain who still had a stoic look on his face
"Is it true that Zhang Caishen is a possible system host?"
Mantis diverted her eyes to the twins, nobody else but them could have passed that information to the captain so quickly other than them. It was no wonder that Alix didn’t trust them one hundred percent; their loyalty was to the captain and only him.
She glared at them with her eyes and crinkled her nose, making her mouth sharp. She did not want to verbally express her displeasure so she settled on this.
"Answer the question Mantis." The captain barked.
She looked away from the twins and nodded reluctantly, confirming what the captain already suspected. To her surprise, the captain’s lips curled upwards and then he started to laugh.
His eyes twinkled with joy that she had never seen before and she could not understand what pleased him so much. Was Caishen being a system host such great news? What exactly was great about it?
"Err, captain, are you okay?" she asked reluctantly.
His laughter broke and he stopped suddenly just as he had started but inside, he was dancing like a little girl. There were so many new possibilities that could be opened up if what he was thinking was true.
"Do you happen to know what kind of system he has?" he asked.
Mantis shook her head, she didn’t have that information and even if she had asked, Alix would not have given it to her. All she knew for certain was that he was strong, extremely so. She looked at the captain and compared his strength to Caishen’s. The other system host she could think of that might match these two in strength was Oris.
The captain received a notification and he looked away from Mantis. Whatever he read was not good news because it caused him to frown deeply.
"Shen Xiaoping is dead." He raised his head and stared slightly harshly at Mantis. In his eyes was a dead look. "Was this your doing by any chance?"
Mantis drew her head back and her mouth frowned, curving downwards.
"Of course not." She denied strongly. "Why should I kill him, Alix has the support of everyone, the tides have already changed in our favor. Why should I touch the Shen family and ruin things for us. This was not us, it is probably Genesis."
Shen Xiaoping was next in line to become the world bureau president or he was...until Alix showed up and things started changing. His death was not a good thing for them; people would begin assuming that Alix and her supporters had a hand in it. Genesis would use this to his advantage, to paint her as someone scared of competition so much so that she had to kill one of her strongest competitors.
"Wait, it could be a natural death. Why are we assuming the worst? What is his cause of death?" she asked curiously.
"Poison, but to the public, natural causes." He filled her in.
"Fruit!" Mantis cursed.
The Shen family would try to pin this on Alix, of that Mantis was certain.
"I will begin putting in place measures to make sure it doesn’t touch her. If, I am just saying if it was you or anyone we know that is fighting for the cause then fess up so that we can erase all the evidence in time." The waited for a while, looking at her, expecting a confession.
Mantis huffed in frustration, and she considered professing her innocence to the sky. Maybe it would be more understanding the captain who was hard of hearing.
"It is not us, if it was, we would have eliminated the entire family like Alix did the Heinrich’s. Of what use is it to remove Shen Xiaoping from the chessboard when the rest of the family is still alive, active and healthy? They will simply replace him with someone else. In fact, this could be an inside job, something done by the Shen’s themselves."
The captain’s eyes lit up. The truth did not matter, perception was more important during an election. It was better for the story to be spun this way so that fingers were not pointed at Alix.
But, who had truly killed him?
