The Young master's fake bride and her lucky system-Chapter 323: Between a friend and a wife.
She put the macaroons back in the medium sized box and took a deep breath. She looked at him with blank eyes, feeling a little lost. There were some things that he did for her which she attributed to duty, with him being her husband but every once in a while, he did something special that had her questioning his motives.
Like right now, she was wondering why he had flown in one of the world’s most expensive dessert for her. Was he in love with her? This was not something you did for just anyone. Had he bought them before or after they had sex? Was she the only one he had bought for or did he get his mother and sister this gift as well?
She seemed to be lost for words or she was simply waiting for his response to her questions.
"Do you like it?" he asked.
Alix had no clue where the tears in her eyes had come from but they were there. Hot, fat and wet drops which fell out from both of her eyes.
"I like..." she replied.
Of course she liked them. She had always promised herself that she when she became successful, no matter how old she was, she would travel around the world and taste the world’s most expensive, rare, weird, best and worst desserts.
Sniveling, she wiped the tears away as she tried hard to keep more of them at bay.
"I am glad." he answered.
Alix was not paying attention so she didn’t hear the sigh of relief in his voice when she said that she liked them. He had been hoping to see her smile and laugh when she received the gifts however, not sad with tears in her eyes.
Still, he was sure that he was ahead of Mo Qilu and Holea now. His wife had so many knights in shining armors waiting to rescue and care for her. It was a good thing, however it also put a little pressure on him. He wanted her to need him, to rely on him, to truly love.....
He stopped his thoughts. wrong direction. He was not ready to go in that direction.
"We should go, we are being bad hosts right now." he said.
"I am not dressed." she mumbled.
She got to her feet, intending to go and dress up, however she felt the urge to stop first and thank him again. It didn’t matter why he had given her these gifts which she loved. All that mattered was that he had done so.
She bent down and quickly kissed him unexpectedly on the lips.
Just as quickly, she backed away a little bit but remained in his space, close enough to smell the faint trace of wine on his breath.
"Thank you, hubby Zhang."
She stood up before he could reply and a brilliant idea too crossed her mind. Professor He’s homework, could there be a better time than now?
"Do you want to take a picture together, right now?" she asked.
He scratched the back of his neck and looked at the way they were both dressed. Her in a towel and him in a thick shouting red sweater that she had given him a week ago. A color that he had not dared to wear before. If he had to wear red, he usually chose burgundy.
He wanted to say no, or change the sweater to something calmer but the hopeful look in her eyes had him nodding as he choked down his objections.
"You are not dressed." he reminded her.
She rushed away, threw on the nearest dress she could find and a white sweater that she grabbed from the counter when she was in a hurry. It was after the picture was taken that they both realized it was bulky and also his, not hers.
"Keep it on, it looks good on you." he told her.

One minute later, they were mingling with their guests. Caishen and Du Fuzi were selecting a bottle of wine from the wine rack attached to the sides of the kitchen island.
"What about this one, it’s French." he asked.
He didn’t get an answer and noticed that his friend was absentminded. Like a fool, he had a grin on his face and his eyes were focused on Jin Kang.
Caishen picked up a fork from a plate sitting empty on the kitchen island and decided to try Majesty’s solution for absent minded people if you were at an unfair disadvantage height wise.
He pricked Du Fuzi’s thigh with the fork. Du Fuzi winced and looked at his friend.
"What are you doing?" he stepped away and asked.
Wincing, he rubbed the spot which had been innocently harmed.
"I should be asking you that question?" Caishen replied.
"What do you mean?" he asked.
Caishen turned his head and looked at Jin Kang before looking back at Du Fuzi.
"Of all the women in the world, you went and decided to play around with my one of my wife’s bestfriends. I really don’t understand what you are thinking. You should end it before things get messy." he advised him.
Du Fuzi raised his brows, a stubborn look deep in his eyes. Even though Caishen recognized that look and knew that it would be useless, he still felt the need to address it.
"Look, when you two break up, the situation will not just affect the two of you but us as well. Time will come when we throw a small party like this one and Jin Kang will ask my wife if you will be attending.
If things end badly, you will want to avoid her so you will be asking the same question. And then, Alix and i will have to choose which friend to leave out of events or side with because that’s what people do when two individuals in the same circle break up, they pick sides."
"So pick my side, i am your best friend." Du Fuzi answered casually.
Caishen scowled and fought the desire to call Fuzi an idiot.
"I am a married man Fuzi, i have responsibilities now beyond being blindly loyal to my friend. I will pick whatever my wife wants to keep the peace in my family. Besides, you are responsible for your actions, so make sure that you will be responsible to the very end.
Whatever happens, don’t let it fracture our small circle. If you cannot be responsible for it, then end it as soon as possible before the entanglement becomes deeper."
Du Fuzi laughed with some arrogance on his face. "Hooo, Zhang Caishen, are you in love with your wife already? Don’t tell me that this is what i think it is. You are even picking her side already, wow. I never thought that i would see the day when you stopped guarding yourself against all women."
Caishen scowled and said sternly, "Stay on point."
Du Fuzi bent down, picked up another bottle of wine and said slowly in a serious voice, "Old friend, instead of worrying about me, you should worry more about your sister and Rongyan. I am not the only one whose complicated relationship might force you to pick sides in the circle in case of a breakup."
