Chapter 13 - 13: Unpredictable Event

"What should we do next, sir?" Serena's calm voice suddenly rang out, drawing Ash's full attention.

However, instead of answering her question immediately, Ash paused for what could be considered a long time. But it wasn't because he was captivated by her beauty.

Ash was just thinking about whether he should make Serena his Servant or not.

And when he considered all aspects, he had to admit that she was quite a suitable person.

Serena was a very strong girl, strong enough to be called the academy's genius, and most importantly, she was extremely loyal and trusted Ash.

She was even willing to follow the Third Prince Ash "Worthless" Voidveil to this battlefield even though she knew that she might die.

But the problem was that he could only choose 5 people, and once he chose, Ash would not be able to change his Servant ever again.

He knew that Serena was strong based on the titles she had received, however, he had not actually seen her full power yet. So he could not be sure if she was stronger than other characters in the game or not.

'Um... I guess I'll think about it later.'

Ash stopped those thoughts, turned towards Serena and was about to answer her question when he suddenly startled as he saw her strange state at the moment.

Serena was standing still like a statue and staring at the night sky with a blank, empty, and slightly terrified gaze, her mouth wide open, showing that she was panicking. freewebnσvel.cѳm

'Impossible! How could someone as calm as Serena show such a face? What the hell is she looking at?'

But that wasn't all, all of Ash's soldiers around were in the same state as Serena.

They were all looking up at the sky with eyes that had lost all vitality.

Feeling something strange was occuring, Ash also instantly looked up at the sky to see what they were looking at.

And honestly, he shouldn't have done that. Because when he did, in just a moment, Ash saw death.

***

Floating in the pitch-black sky was an Abyssal Creature wearing a tattered black cloak, making it impossible to see the creature's face.

Meanwhile, the white right hand that had no trace of blood was holding a giant scythe.

The appearance of the Abyssal Creature floating in the air looked both horrifying and insane, and so did its true power.

Unlike Shadow Eagle - the creature that Ash had to look at for a while to remember - the moment he saw that Abyssal Creature, he recalled its name immediately.

Death was the first name that came to his mind.

And that was also the name belonged to an extremely powerful Abyssal Creature, so powerful that he still remembered its name clearly even though he rarely saw it when he was still a streamer.

And Ash could almost be sure that Death's Rank was Tyrant. But the real question was, why was a Tyrant in this place?

The most reasonable answer Ash could think of at the moment was... the False Horizon had been penetrated.

***

This world - or at least what all of humanity thought - was actually just a land located in the real world. Or there was another name: Abyssal Realm.

The Abyssal Realm was home to many Abyssal Creatures, and worse, all of the Abyssal Creatures there were Tyrant Rank or even higher.

And if Ash were to describe their power, those Abyssal Creatures would be strong enough to flatten a kingdom alone, in just 1 fucking day.

The entire land should have been easily destroyed by those Abyssal Creatures, but thanks to the false sky, also known as the False Horizon that separated the two, humanity was able to live a little longer.

In the eyes of many players, the False Horizon could be considered a savior, but for Ash, it was no different from a prison that imprisoned all of humanity.

The False Horizon made all of humanity unaware of the existence of the Abyssal Realm, but at the same time, it also made humanity completely dependent on it.

If one day, the False Horizon was destroyed and the Abyssal Creatures started attacking humans, that would be the end of all humanity.

And now, an Abyssal Creature Rank Tyrant was in front of Ash, and this was of course not normal at all.

Only Abyssal Creature Rank Fiend to Wraith could enter the False Horizon, but somehow, Death had also penetrated it.

And this was just Ash's speculation, but perhaps the False Horizon was getting weaker by time.

Based on the information that Ash remembered, in just 3 years, the False Horizon would be completely destroyed, and that was also the time when humanity would know about the existence of the Abyssal Realm and other things.

And that was also the time when the protagonist began his journey to save humanity.

***

While Ash was still in a state of extreme alarm like everyone else, Death had already begun to prepare for its first attack.

The Abyssal Creature gently took its other arm out of the cloak, and in a blink of an eye, something that looked like a white ball of energy appeared on Death's palm.

Seeing that white ball of energy, Ash immediately realized what the attack was.

'...W-Why did Death use his strongest attack from the start...What the fuck is actually happening?'

Ash was stunned and completely helpless, like a soulless person. But he knew that he needed to react right now if he wanted to save his precious life.

"EVERYONE! STOP LOOKING AT THAT BALL OF ENERGY!!!!" Ash shouted, trying to inform his soldiers, but unfortunately, his words could not reach them.

All of his loyal soldiers were captivated by that thing - something that looked both gorgeous and... dreadful.

Then, that white ball of energy slowly left the Abyssal Creature's palm and steadily rose higher.

"DAMN IT!" Ash shouted loudly, at the same time, he immediately rushed towards Serena - who was standing closest to him - and pressed both of their heads to the ground, doing everything he could to not see what was going to happen next.

Then, in the blink of an eye, that ball of energy exploded without making a sound.

The light it emitted was extremely bright, so bright that normal people would think that the night had truly ended and dawn was here.

After that thing exploded, the soldiers were still frozen in place like before. But unlike last time, this time, their eyes truly had no light left.

They had become completely empty. Their souls had completely vanished.

Exactly 2 seconds later, all those people fell straight to the ground like dirty dolls that had been thrown away without any mercy.

Just like that, with just a single attack, Death had taken away the souls of more than 402 people.

Only Ash and Serena, who were lucky enough not to see that energy ball, were still alive.
