Chapter 72: 072 Annoying Young Girl (First Update)

Yelu Yan watched Li Xianyun’s obliviously cute demeanor, chuckled softly, and asked, “So tired?”

Li Xianyun forced her eyes open, looked at Yelu Yan, nodded, and said, “Horse racing today was really exhausting. I want to sleep.”

“Eat before you sleep, you’re too thin, you must eat on time.”

Yelu Yan said this as he picked up a slice of lotus root for her.

He himself didn’t eat properly, yet he had the nerve to say that about her.

But Li Xianyun was really too drowsy to argue with him, and besides, she did not have the courage to do so anyway; she just murmured, “Mmm.”

She truly was so sleepy, she had no appetite at all.

Li Xianyun looked at Yelu Yan and said, “Khan, may I go to sleep after finishing my egg soup? I’m really very sleepy.”

Her drowsiness made her voice sound lazy and pleasant, and she seemed like an adorable little cat.

The sight of her bargaining was so endearing that Yelu Yan couldn’t help but fill his eyes with laughter.

“All right.”

Yelu Yan looked at her tired red eyes and regretted calling her out.

Just then, Zhuo Ma approached Yelu Yan to report, “To report to the Khan, Jinwu says there’s an urgent matter to report to you.”

Yelu Yan looked at Li Xianyun and said, “I’ll step out for a moment.”

“Okay.”

Yelu Yan then walked towards the door.

When he came back, he found Li Xianyun had fallen asleep on the table, still holding a roasted bun she had nibbled on, without having sipped the egg soup at all.

It looked like as soon as he had left, Li Xianyun had laid down on the table.

Youlan saw Yelu Yan returning and quickly nudged Li Xianyun gently, leaning forward to hurriedly whisper, “My lady, the Khan is here.”

Earlier, after Yelu Yan had left, Li Xianyun laid on the table and told Youlan, “Youlan, I am truly too sleepy; I’ll rest for a while, once the Khan returns, wake me up.”

Youlan agreed, but now that the Khan had arrived, she couldn’t wake her mistress.

Yelu Yan said in an indifferent tone, “No need to wake the consort.”

Youlan quickly bowed and said, “Yes.”

Then she stepped aside.

Yelu Yan walked over, gently took the roasted bun out of Li Xianyun’s hand, placed it on the table, then bent over and carefully lifted Li Xianyun from the table.

She was really light, so light that it stirred a sense of tenderness in the onlooker.

Yelu Yan looked down at the adorable little person in his arms, as she nestled into his embrace, tiny and pitiful yet incredibly cute.

She was gently closing her eyes, her long eyelashes casting shadows, breathing evenly, deeply asleep.

Yelu Yan’s Adam’s apple moved involuntarily.

He had never felt as fulfilled and content as he did now; his heart was filled to the brim with an indescribable emotion, making him feel relaxed and joyful, experiencing a sense of happiness he had never known before.

He had never thought such feelings could befall him.

He gazed deeply at Li Xianyun, then, holding her, slowly walked towards the side chamber.

Youlan watched Yelu Yan’s tall, erect figure, hesitated for a moment, and ultimately did not follow.

The Khan and the consort were truly a perfect match; wherever they stood, they created a beautiful scene, and she didn’t have the heart to interrupt.

Yelu Yan, holding Li Xianyun, arrived at the spacious bed. Because it was daytime, the mosquito nets were lifted to the sides and hung on the hooks at either side of the bed.

Yelu Yan bent down to firstly place Li Xianyun’s body gently on the bed, then with a large hand he shielded her small head, softly allowing her to pillow it on a cushion.

After that, he took off her shoes and neatly placed them beside the bed.

Having done all this, Yelu Yan sat by the bed, gazing at Li Xianyun’s exceptionally beautiful little face, his lips unconsciously curving into a slight smile.

This time, she hadn’t hugged him and called out Xiaobai’s name—her pet white cat was named Xiaobai.

After a while, Yelu Yan stretched out a long arm, took the soft quilt from within the bed, unfolded it, and gently draped a corner over her stomach.

Yelu Yan noticed a strand of hair had fallen across her forehead, covering her eyes, so he lifted his rough, large hand and gently brushed the hair to the side.

Just as he was about to withdraw his hand, it was caught by Li Xianyun’s raised hand.

Li Xianyun held his big hand with her small ones, gently pressing it against her face and caressing it with her tender, smooth little face, saying, “Xiaobai, don’t be naughty, or else sister won’t love you anymore.”

Yelu Yan’s entire body stiffened, the palm of his hand feeling a cool and tender sensation, as if half of his body no longer belonged to him.

However, Li Xianyun soon fell into a deep sleep, her small hands gradually loosening their grip.

Yelu Yan indulged in this tender, delicate sensation, wanting to touch that adorable and charming little face once more.

His fingers had barely moved before he stopped himself.

Taking advantage of someone’s vulnerability was not the act of a gentleman.

Yelu Yan slowly withdrew his hand and placed it on his thigh, his palm tingling, and he could only slowly clench it into a fist.

“That little tease,” Yelu Yan murmured with a soft laugh as he gazed at Li Xianyun.

Youlan and Zhuo Ma were waiting outside the inner chamber, sharing a silent smile when their glances accidentally met.

Their implications couldn’t have been clearer.

Hearing movement from the inner chamber, the two of them quickly assumed a demure posture.

When Yelu Yan emerged, both gave a respectful salute.

Yelu Yan said to them in a calm voice, “Your mistress has fallen asleep. Tell the kitchen to prepare a meal for the princess consort. Once she wakes, bring it to her so she won’t be hungry.”

The two saluted and replied, “Yes!”

Yelu Yan returned to the main hall, partook of his meal, and then set out.

Jinwu had mentioned that his mentor was already able to get out of bed, so he needed to visit.

On the way there, Jinwu said, “Khan, I heard from Youlan that the princess consort was very fond of a white cat she raised in Chang’an, a pity she didn’t bring it with her. My relative happens to have a little white kitten; should we get it for the princess consort? We could say it’s a gift from you.”

This seemed like a perfect way to please the princess consort, and surely the Khan would gladly accept.

After Jinwu finished speaking, he waited for his Khan to praise his cleverness and thoughtfulness. Unexpectedly, his illustrious and valiant Khan did not offer praise, but instead replied in a displeased tone, “No need.”

“Why?” Jinwu couldn’t help asking, perplexed.

Yelu Yan gave him a cool glance.

Jinwu, frightened, quickly bent his arm in salute and said, “Forgive me, Khan, I spoke out of turn.”

Yelu Yan said in an even tone, “Do not speak of the white cat again, and do not mention it to the princess consort.”

“As you command,” Jinwu hastily responded.

Watching the Khan’s tall and handsome figure recede, he thought to himself: What’s gotten into the Khan? Why does he seem to have such a vendetta against the princess consort’s white cat?

Li Xianyun had a wonderfully restful sleep, and upon waking, she sat up embracing the soft quilt, stared blankly for a while, then got out of bed to put on her shoes. She walked to the desk, poured herself a cup of water, and took a sip.

Upon hearing movement, Youlan called out from the door, “My lady, are you awake?”

Li Xianyun cleared her throat and replied, “I’m awake.”

At her words, Youlan and Zhuo Ma both entered.

Zhuo Ma asked, “Would you like us to serve your meal, my lady?”
