The President's Pregnant, Ex-Wife-Chapter 20 – Sabrina’s resolve
Chapter 20: Chapter 20 – Sabrina’s resolve
Sabrina shook her head and smiled bitterly. When she was at the crossroads with Robin since she could not endure sharing her home with another woman, Devin was the only light in her dark tunnel. Unfortunately, he was making her regret counting on him for help.
"Truthfully Devin, I’m disappointed in you. After all, I have been through, do you think I would even consider having another man in my life? My wounds are still deep and my pain is fresh. Now you are telling me this."
Devin was overwhelmed by how everything turned out. This was not the way he wanted it to be. To him, his sister needed someone to treat her like the woman she was but he also forgot that it was too early to make such suggestions. Regret was the only thing in his heart. He leaned his head against the headrest with his eyes closed in deep thought. When he opened them, they were red, as if he was holding tears from falling.
"I’m sorry Sabrina, just forget about everything. I was just concerned because I feared it would be too late if we wasted any more time. Martin could have any woman he wanted, except that he wanted only you. I understand that you don’t want to enter into any relationship so let’s stick to the first plan and I will do my best to protect you."
Sabrina sighed. She did not understand her reason for suddenly feeling guilty about the whole thing. She loved Devin but the only person she made sacrifices for was Robin, while Devin has always been the one to put her first, even in his relationships. If he met a woman Sabrina did not like, then the bitch would get dumped. Remembering those times, Sabrina felt like she overreacted. Perhaps, there was more to the story than she ever anticipated.
"What’s in it for you?" She suddenly asked. Devin frowned a little before asking in return,
"Ah?"
Sabrina chuckled, imprinted with the knowledge that he did not understand her question. "I said, what’s in it for you? You won’t just try to convince me to give Martin a chance if you did not have anything to gain from it."
Devin turned to his side where he was facing Sabrina. He said truthfully, "Yes. You are right. He is into leather fashion and me, clothing so we wanted to partner and become the biggest clothing and leather fashion line in NY city but it’s okay. With hard work, I can still achieve my dream of being the best in the industry."
"I will see what I can do," Sabrina said blankly after hearing his reason for the suggestion. She did not intend to date Martin or anything but as a woman, there were always ways around these things. It was time to use her femininity positively. Also, she was no longer the little girl Devin dotted on for all these years. She was a woman who had experienced both the good and bad side of life.
Devin shook his head. He never should have brought it up because if Sabrina got hurt again, there would be no words enough to describe the pain he’d feel. "No Brina, please don’t. I already feel ashamed that I even thought about it. If you do it, I won’t be able to get over it."
"But it’s to help with your business, right?" Sabrina asked with determination cruising through her veins and eyes. Devin discerned that she was not going to retreat from her decision of helping so he contended,
"Forget it. I’m still rich."
"And you want to be the best," Sabrina overruled. Devin did not argue but thought to talk Martin out of it.
"Just forget it. Let me walk you to the office," he said before walking around to open the door for her. When they reached Sabrina’s office, Lizzy was not seated so she dropped the food they bought for both of them and only took that of her dad to his office with Devin.
"Good morning dad, we brought your lunch," Sabrina smiled and hugged her father. He smiled back before asking curiously,
"How did it go?"
"Positive," Sabrina said without hesitation. Her father’s smile widened as he said,
"Congratulations. I still have a grandchild so not everything was lost."
"I’m happy that you think that way," Sabrina said with teary eyes. It was true. She had something from her one-sided love. She had someone she could channel it all to and forget Robin for good.
"Do you need rest? You don’t have to pressure yourself," her father said with concern. He was already worried about his unborn grandchild. Sabrina’s heart filled with joy at how much the news made her father happy but she was determined to better her life and was not going to spend it at home doing nothing.
"Dad. This is my time to work," she said with a burning desire, making it difficult for her father to discourage her.
"Okay then. We have a meeting with some clients who came from Asia," he announced. Sabrina smiled, seeming ready for the challenges ahead.
"It’s a pleasure to meet them."
Devin was at peace. He did not get what he wanted but was glad to see his foster father happy after many years. "I will go back to my office now. I will pick up Sabrina in the evening since Lizzy is still working on her closet."
"You want to work with Lizzy?" His foster father asked seriously. Devin nodded before responding, "Don’t worry, she’ll do all the work." The family of three burst into laughter before Lizzy walked in, each of them trying to sniffle their laughter.
