The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me?!-Chapter 99: The Queen’s Rare Gems (I)
Chapter 99: The Queen’s Rare Gems (I)
"He’s been very kind to me," Primrose said with a warm smile. "He even built this entire greenhouse just for me, and filled it with flowers from my homeland. He wanted me to feel like I never left home."
Arabella’s frown deepened so much that Primrose could clearly see the wrinkle between her brows. [His Majesty built this entire place ... just for her? A whole greenhouse? For a human?]
On the other hand, Brielle looked genuinely impressed. [That boy really went and did something so thoughtful? Whoever taught him that deserves a medal.]
Primrose was pretty sure no one had taught him. Most likely, Edmund had figured it all out himself, especially since she had seen his collection of books about how to be a good husband.
"I didn’t know His Majesty could be that romantic!" Mirelle clapped her hands and leaned in closer, as if she wanted to hear more juicy details about the queen’s love life.
"I’ve heard you’ve spent many nights with His Majesty. Tell me, were you still able to walk the next day?"
Primrose nearly choked on her tea. Her smile faded, and her eyes widened as she stared at Mirelle in disbelief.
Did she really just ask that out loud?
How could someone be this bold after just meeting her?!
No—more importantly, who the hell had told Lady Mirelle that kind of information?!
The palace staff seriously needed to stop gossiping about her sex life!
"Lady Mirelle!" Brielle nudged her arm with a bit of force. "Where are your manners?!"
Mirelle pouted slightly, clearly annoyed that Brielle had stopped her from getting the very answer she wanted. "I’m just asking."
"Even asking has its limits," Brielle said with a sigh. "You might make Her Majesty uncomfortable."
Primrose let out an awkward chuckle, unsure how to respond. Fortunately, a few maids arrived just in time, bringing pastries to the table.
She pretended to clear her throat and said,
"I ... I’ve prepared a few light snacks for you. In my homeland, we usually serve sweet treats during tea parties, but thanks to my lady-in-waiting’s recommendation, I’ve adjusted them to match your taste." ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
A warm smile bloomed on her face. "I hope you’ll enjoy them."
Brielle thought, [She really is doing her best to make us feel comfortable. Such a kind person.]
Then Primrose heard what was in Raven’s head too.
[Everything looks delicious. If I eat a lot now, I think I can survive without food for the next two days.]
Two days without food?!
Primrose was genuinely starting to worry about her. She suddenly felt like rooting for Raven to just go ahead and murder her husband already.
"What is this?!" Mirelle said excitedly as the maid placed a mini quiche in front of her.
Primrose answered politely, "It’s a mini quiche. You should try it."
Without wasting a second, Mirelle popped the entire quiche into her mouth in one bite, making Primrose panic a little, afraid she might choke.
She gestured to the maid to pour some water, but Mirelle had already swallowed the pastry and gave Primrose a thumbs up.
"This is really delicious!" she said, then turned to Arabella.
"Milady, you have to try it!"
Arabella wrinkled her nose slightly, clearly a bit annoyed by Mirelle’s overly friendly attitude.
[Why is she acting like this? We’ve barely even spoken to each other before.]
[And what the hell is this thing? This food looks worse than the raw meat my husband usually eats.]
Primrose furrowed her brows slightly, though not enough for others to notice. If she were to eat raw meat, she’d probably throw up immediately.
Still, it was no surprise that the Duke of Cindralis ate things like that, considering he was a tiger beast, one of the most dangerous types among the carnivore beasts.
"I’ll give it a try," Arabella said, picking up a mini quiche with a small spoon and taking a tiny bite.
At first, her face looked disgusted, as if she’d just eaten something revolting. But after chewing once, her expression changed.
[What the hell is this?!] Arabella’s eyes widened, and she leaned back slightly, staring at the pastry in disbelief. [Why does this taste good?! I’ve never eaten anything this delicious before! What about the others? Are they all this good?]
Primrose bit her bottom lip, trying her best to hide the growing smile on her face.
She had asked Solene to make sure the palace baker prepared dishes that would appeal to both carnivores and humans.
Arabella was a tiger, Mirelle a white fox, and Brielle was from the Bear tribe.
All three were carnivores, so their palates likely weren’t too far apart. Meanwhile, Raven was human, so she could eat just about anything.
The palace baker had used high-quality beef seasoned specifically to match the taste preferences of carnivores.
Most of the pastries were rich with umami, a touch of saltiness, and a hint of sourness. The flavors were carefully combined to make something irresistible.
"This ... isn’t too bad," Arabella said coolly, pretending she wasn’t impressed, but Primrose could tell she was absolutely in love with the pastry and probably wanted to devour it in one bite like Mirelle.
Raven, on the other hand, had already eaten nearly half of the treats on her plate.
If that tiger doesn’t want her share, I’ll gladly eat it, she thought. How dare she make that disgusted face in front of Her Majesty? The queen put in so much effort to prepare all this.
In truth, Primrose had simply given Solene a list of dishes she wanted served at the tea party, so she didn’t feel like she had worked too hard.
But seeing Raven’s enthusiasm made her genuinely happy. It felt like her efforts hadn’t gone to waste.
The conversation quieted down after that, as everyone was too busy enjoying the pastries. Primrose wasn’t in a rush, she ate slowly and gracefully, having tasted most of these treats before.
Each time she reached for a pastry, she subtly angled her hand to show off her ring finger.
