The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me?!-Chapter 84: The Queen’s Headache
Chapter 84: The Queen’s Headache
Primrose wouldn’t have minded a kiss. Really, she wouldn’t have.
But unfortunately ... Edmund had just made a fatal mistake.
"You don’t have to do that," she said, placing her palm gently over his lips and slowly pushing his face away. "Since you’ve already called Dr. Silas, there’s no need for you to heal my headache anymore."
Edmund’s expression darkened immediately. He suddenly regretted his decision to call Silas to the palace.
"But ... but maybe Dr. Silas won’t arrive until midnight," Edmund said, trying to make an excuse, or rather, trying to steal a kiss from his wife. "You might not be able to sleep well if you’re just waiting for him."
Primrose smiled faintly, then gently lowered her hand. "Don’t worry about it, Your Majesty. I’m not going to die from a simple headache."
After that, she said nothing more. She lay back down on the bed, pulled the blanket over herself, and turned her back to Edmund.
"Please wake me when Dr. Silas arrives," she murmured. "I just need a short nap."
Edmund stood there, frozen. His hand hovered awkwardly in the air, still hoping he could reach for his wife and convince her to kiss him instead of relying on the doctor.
But when he saw her shoulders slowly relax and heard her breathing even out, he sighed quietly.
He didn’t do anything else.
He simply sat on the edge of her bed ... and let her sleep.

In the middle of the night, Primrose felt someone gently shaking her shoulder.
"Wife, you need to wake up for a moment," Edmund whispered. "Your doctor is here."
Primrose reluctantly opened her heavy eyelids. Unfortunately, her headache hadn’t gone away just by sleeping. If anything, sleeping had only made it worse.
She even had to lean her head against Edmund’s arm as she sat up in bed.
What the hell was wrong with her?
If her old teachers found out she nearly died just from doing too much math, they’d probably burst out laughing in front of her face.
No, there was nothing wrong with her.
It was just that she hadn’t used her brain in years because Edmund never gave her any responsibilities in her first life.
So it wasn’t a surprise that now, after suddenly using her brain so much, it felt like it was on fire.
Basically, this was all her husband’s fault!
"Where is he?" Primrose asked, her voice a little hoarse. She lifted her face to meet Edmund’s eyes.
Edmund held his breath when he heard how weak she sounded. "He just arrived," he said. "He’ll be here any moment."
She looked down, noticing that Edmund was still wearing the same clothes from earlier, just like when he first came into her room.
Had he been staying in her room the whole time while she was asleep?
[She had been tossing and turning in her sleep the entire time. That headache really didn’t let her rest properly.]
[I should’ve just kissed her while she was sleeping.]
Primrose furrowed her brows slightly, surprised that he had actually stayed and watched over her while she slept.
It wasn’t like she had never spent the night with Edmund before, they had done it twice, actually.
But still, being watched over like this while she was sick ... it made her chest ache a little.
No, it wasn’t his fault.
It was just ... this reminded her so much of her father.
He used to do the same as her husband. Her father would sit by her side all night whenever she had a fever.
And when she was sick for days, he would even sleep on the couch in her room, refusing to leave her alone, just in case something happened while he was away.
The memories made her heart squeeze.
Oh, she suddenly missed him so much.
However, maybe it wasn’t possible at the moment since it would be seen as a bad move for the queen to return to her home when her marriage age was no more than one month.
She sighed. Well, it seemed she would have to wait even longer.
"This is all my fault, wife." Edmund lowered his head, looking like a guilty dog who had just made a mess.
Primrose frowned. "Why are you apologizing?"
Even though he had messed up by calling Silas, in truth, he hadn’t done anything wrong.
He didn’t even know the truth about Silas, so it wasn’t fair to blame him.
"If only I had prepared you better for your duty as Queen from the start," Edmund said softly, "you wouldn’t have ended up like this."
[Sir Dorne probably wouldn’t have been so harsh with his lessons if I had allowed him to teach my wife from the beginning.]
[In fact, he once scolded me for being ridiculous because I forbade him to give her any royal duties.]
[He told me I was only going to make her life more miserable, but I was too dumb to see it. I thought my wife’s life would be easier if I let her do nothing all day.]
[But it turns out to be such a stupid decision.]
[Still ... how could I burden her with duties when I was the one who ruined her life by forcing her to leave her homeland and live in the land of beasts?]
Primrose had always known Edmund didn’t want to burden her.
But now, she realized it wasn’t just because he was worried she’d get sick.
It wasn’t because he wanted to spoil her too much either.
It was guilt.
He felt guilty for forcing her into a life she never asked for.
Becoming Queen of Noctvaris hadn’t been her choice.
And since they barely spoke in her first life, Edmund had probably believed she would grow to resent him even more if he gave her queenly duties—duties she never wanted in the first place.
But instead of protecting her, his silence and fear had only made things harder.
She had been left in the dark, not knowing anything about the kingdom or what he really wanted from her.
And now that she was thinking about it ...
He had rushed to her side the moment Solene said she wasn’t feeling well.
That simple act made her wonder—
Would he have done the same if she had told him, near the end of her first life, that she was dying from an illness?
