The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me?!-Chapter 133: The King Would Never Let His Queen Wait
Chapter 133: The King Would Never Let His Queen Wait
Primrose was still half-asleep when Marielle and Solene guided her into the bathroom and helped her get dressed.
They made sure the Queen wore something comfortable since she’d be sitting in a carriage for a very long time.
"You can’t fall asleep again, Your Majesty," Solene said gently, keeping Primrose’s head from drooping onto the vanity. Marielle was already fixing her hair, trying to make it look neat. "We need to leave before the sun rises."
"Why are we leaving so early?" Primrose grumbled, pointing toward the window. "Just look at the sky, it’s still dark!"
Solene sighed patiently. "Your Majesty, remember what I said? It takes two full days by carriage to reach Moonshadow City from the capital. If we leave too late, we won’t make it to the first inn before nightfall."
Primrose puffed out her cheeks. "I already told His Majesty I didn’t need a carriage."
Edmund had told her that if they went on horseback, they could arrive in one day. And if they traveled in their beast forms, they could make it in just two hours.
The time difference shocked her. So of course, she’d asked her husband if she could travel with him in his beast form, since it sounded way more efficient, but Edmund had refused her in less than a second.
He almost never said no to her, so when he did, it meant he truly didn’t want her to do something. That was why Primrose didn’t bring it up again.
Honestly, she had just been curious to see her husband’s beast form.
She’d asked him many times before, but no matter how much she reassured him she wouldn’t be scared, he always turned her down.
"Your body wouldn’t be able to handle our speed," Solene reminded her gently. "You’d probably catch a fever as soon as we got there."
But her father had traveled back and forth between Illvaris and Noctvaris before. Wasn’t he fine?
Then she remembered, he had written that he was on bedrest for a few days and the doctor had told him to take it easy for two weeks.
She’d thought it was just one of his usual illnesses, but now that she thought about it, maybe it was from moving too fast in a short time.
Primrose bit her lower lip, feeling a bit guilty for letting her father suffer that much.
"Alright, alright. I get it," she finally agreed. "I just don’t want everyone getting annoyed because they have to slow down for me."
"No one would dare get annoyed with you, Your Majesty!" Marielle paused, then added with a grin, "His Majesty would probably cut out their tongue if they did." freewēbnoveℓ.com
Primrose blinked in shock and murmured, "There’s no need to cut off anyone’s tongue. It’s fine if someone complains a little ..."
After all, beasts naturally move faster than ordinary humans, especially those with high stamina. It would be understandable if some of them were frustrated by the slow pace they had to match for her sake.
"You really don’t need to worry about that, Your Majesty," Solene said gently, trying to ease her mind. "Actually, I think everyone would be more upset if you didn’t take the carriage."
[His Majesty only took people who’ve had good interactions with Her Majesty,] Solene thought. [Or those who have openly shown they admire and support her presence.]
[That’s why I’m sure not a single one of them will complain just because the trip takes two days instead of a few hours.]
Oh, this was the first time Primrose learned about that.
Honestly, she didn’t really know who else would be going with her to Moonshadow besides the people she personally chose.
However, since her husband was the one in charge of selecting the other soldiers, she trusted him to bring along only the best to keep her safe.
Still, it had never crossed her mind that Edmund would be so meticulous in choosing exactly who got to accompany her on the trip.
"All done," Marielle said brightly as she finished fixing Primrose’s hair and smoothing out her dress. "You’re ready to go now, Your Majesty. I’ll put your cloak inside the carriage, so you can wear it when the weather starts to get cold."
Since there was a significant difference in temperature between the capital and Moonshadow, they had packed several thick cloaks for her and even brought thick blankets, just in case.
Primrose thought it was a bit too much. She’d faced plenty of freezing winters in her homeland, and it wasn’t even winter yet, so surely Moonshadow wouldn’t be that cold.
"Let’s head outside," she said, standing from her chair. She glanced one last time at her reflection in the mirror before heading for the door. "His Majesty must be waiting for me."
Just like she predicted, Edmund had already been standing outside by the carriage for half an hour.
"Why didn’t you tell me to come out earlier?" Primrose asked gently as she took his hands and rubbed them softly, trying to warm his cold fingers.
Edmund didn’t show much expression and there was no smile on his face, but the way he looked at her, with those warm, soft eyes, said more than enough.
"I didn’t want to make you panic by rushing you," he said quietly.
[The maids told me my wife usually takes a while to get dressed and ready. If I rushed her, she might end up upset for the whole day.]
[But I’m glad I waited. She looks so beautiful today. She even painted her lips a bit redder than usual.]
Primrose instinctively wanted to touch her lips, but she held herself back because she didn’t want Edmund to get suspicious again that she could really read his thoughts.
"Then why did you wait outside? Why not stay warm inside?" she asked, tilting her head.
Edmund gently lifted his hand and touched her cheek now that his fingers had warmed up. "So you wouldn’t have to wait for me."
How long would it even take Edmund to walk from his room to the carriage? Probably no more than five minutes. Yet he still chose to stand outside in the cold just so his wife wouldn’t have to wait for him.
Primrose lowered her eyes and softly mumbled, "Then ... next time, you can wait in my room while I’m getting ready. That way, I won’t have to wait for you to come out, and you won’t have to wait in the cold."
