The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me?!-Chapter 129: The King Was A Stalker
Chapter 129: The King Was A Stalker
Primrose tilted her head, looking at her husband in confusion. "You? You want to come with me to Moonshadow City?"
Actually ... It kind of made sense.
If Edmund wanted to assign someone he trusted completely, someone who was without a doubt the strongest in all of Noctvaris, then the only person who truly met those standards ... was himself.
It might sound a little narcissistic, but it was the truth.
"Yes, me," Edmund replied, his smile slowly fading when he accidentally caught his reflection in the window. "Is that ... a problem?"
"Is it a problem?" Primrose looked at him, slightly concerned. "Your Majesty, I should be the one asking that. Are you sure you’re alright with coming with me? This trip might take several days. What about your work?"
And while they were at it ... what about her work?
Sevrin had just started giving her real tasks bit by bit and even though she was still struggling, that wasn’t the issue.
The real problem was Sevrin wouldn’t be pleased if she left for a trip without finishing her assignments first.
Originally, she had planned to ask her husband to help handle some of her tasks while she was away, just for a few days.
But if he came with her ... who would cover her responsibilities?
Worse than that, Sevrin might force her to finish all her assignments before she even left the palace.
Her head would absolutely explode if she had to compile all the financial reports in such a short time.
The expenses of the Noctvaris Palace weren’t simple, they ranged from food and supplies to weapons and logistics.
Each category needed to be calculated separately before she could even think about putting the whole report together.
With her current skill level ... how could she possibly finish it all in a week?!
"I can finish all my work in just a few days," Edmund said confidently.
[No, you can’t,] he thought to himself. [I’ve been procrastinating for who knows how long ... now there’s a mountain of paperwork waiting for me!]
Primrose furrowed her brows. Edmund’s desk looked strangely neat, not a single paper in sight.
But as her eyes drifted downward, she finally noticed the stacks of documents hidden underneath the table.
Didn’t he spend almost all his time in this room? Then how in the world did he still have that much work left?
Then again, how could she judge him?
She couldn’t even finish her own work and hers was far less than his.
She let out a quiet sigh, thinking to herself the people of Noctvaris were cursed, being ruled by a king and queen who both had a bad habit of procrastinating.
"Are you really sure about this?" Primrose asked again, trying one last time to shake Edmund’s determination to join her.
However, Edmund nodded right away without thinking too long.
"I’m sure," he said. Then, with a softer voice, he added, "I don’t think I’d be able to sleep peacefully if I let my wife travel alone."
[The road is too dangerous for her to go by herself. If anything bad were to happen to her ... I’d never forgive myself.]
[But if she insists on not letting me come, then I’ll just follow her in secret.]
Oh.
Primrose went silent for a moment, her thoughts drifting deeper.
Now that she thought about it ... could it be that Edmund had followed her before when she traveled back to her homeland in her first life?
If she remembered correctly, one of the knights who saved her had covered his face with a black mask.
Unlike the others, he had always stood the closest to her. And his body ... It looked so much like Edmund’s.
His height ... if she wasn’t mistaken, her head only reached his neck.
She lifted her face, studying her husband quietly.
Surprisingly, his height matched exactly with the masked knight she remembered.
Primrose bit her inner lip, suddenly feeling frustrated with herself.
Why hadn’t she realized it sooner?
Her husband had been protecting her all along, even from the shadows.
However, when she returned from that failed trip, she had completely shut him out.
She didn’t even remember clearly why she was so upset with him—oh, wait.
If her memory hadn’t faded too much, she thought it had something to do with him saying, "You should have stayed home."
Yes, that was it. That one sentence had ruined her mood completely, making her feel hurt and irritated.
At the time, his words had sounded so cold, so dismissive, like he was blaming her for leaving the palace.
But now ... thinking back on it ...
Maybe he wasn’t trying to scold her. Maybe he had just been scared, terrified of something happening to her.
Sadly, because he didn’t know how to express that fear, it came out the wrong way.
"Wife?" Edmund called gently, pulling her back from her thoughts. "Do you ... not want me to come with you?"
Snapping out of her daze, Primrose suddenly reached for his sleeve, holding onto it tightly as she looked up at him.
"I’ll ask you one more time," she said softly. "Are you sure you want to follow me to Moonshadow?"
Edmund nodded without hesitation. "I’m sure."
"Alright," she sighed, giving in. "You can come with me. But ... when I meet Lady Raven, I want to speak with her alone. Can you do that?"
Edmund nodded again. "That’s not a problem, my wife."
Honestly, even if Primrose had refused him, she had a strong feeling he would’ve followed her in secret anyway.
So in the end, she decided it was better to let him come openly.
Besides ... wasn’t it kind of nice? They had never gone on a honeymoon before.
So maybe, this trip could be their first.
Some of the maids from Moonshadow had mentioned that the city was a popular vacation spot for nobles who wanted a break from the busy capital.
It was surrounded by greenery and peaceful views, perfect for people who wanted to relax without going deep into the forest.
Should she tell Edmund that she wanted this to be their honeymoon?
