The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me?!-Chapter 126: Send A Letter (1)
Chapter 126: Send A Letter (1)
It wasn’t just about keeping someone safe.
Primrose wanted to build a circle of people she could rely on, people who would stand by her side no matter what.
If something terrible happened in the future, she wanted to know there would be someone willing to help her.
"What do you say, Sir Callen?" she asked, her eyes filled with hope, so much so that it looked like she might cry if he turned her down.
Feeling the weight of her gaze, Callen finally gave in and nodded. "I’ll accept your offer, Your Majesty."
[How could I say no when she looked at me like that?] he thought.
[Well ... there’s no harm in becoming her personal guard. Besides, from now on, I’ll train harder so I can truly protect her from anything.]
Primrose smiled so brightly that it felt like the sun had risen early just to match her joy.
"You made the right choice, Sir Callen," she said enthusiastically. "I’ll let His Majesty know right away. Once he makes it official, you’ll receive all the benefits of being my personal guard."
Callen blinked, his smile fading slightly as he asked nervously, "Your Majesty ... you haven’t told His Majesty about this yet?"
"I haven’t," Primrose replied casually. "But don’t worry, my husband won’t say no to me."
Callen gasped, staring at her in shock. "No, Your Majesty! I thought he already knew! Normally, when a soldier is reassigned, we always inform him first!"
"I’ll tell him soon," Primrose said, completely unbothered.
[What should I do?!] Callen panicked inside.
[What if His Majesty thinks I’m using Her Majesty’s kindness to get a promotion? He’ll kill me, won’t he? Should I reject the offer now? Yes, yes, maybe it’s not too late.]
Before he could speak, Primrose turned to him with a soft look as she opened her bedroom door. "Please ... don’t change your mind, Sir Callen. I would be very sad if you suddenly decided not to be my personal guard after I’ve already spoken to my husband about it."
Callen froze in place, no longer daring to say a word, especially not about backing out.
"I won’t change my mind, Your Majesty," he said quietly, accepting his fate.
"That’s good." Primrose smiled sweetly, then stepped inside her room and gently closed the door.
She actually knew she should have told Edmund first before choosing someone to be her personal guard.
However, if she had brought it up first, there was a good chance Edmund would’ve chosen someone else instead of Callen.
That was why she decided to convince Callen first, then tell Edmund about it later.
Besides, she was confident that Edmund wouldn’t reject her request. And if he did reject it, well, she still had her secret weapon: tears.
That usually worked on him.
Primrose looked at Bunny, the rabbit doll sitting on her bed, and thought maybe she could use it to inform Edmund about Callen.
"Edmund, I’ve chosen Sir Callen to be my personal guard," she said sweetly.
Then she climbed onto the bed and softened her voice into a gentle plea. "Can you handle the paperwork? I want Sir Callen to be officially appointed by the day after tomorrow."
The doll’s glassy eyes suddenly glowed a soft shade of blue, sparkling in the warm light of the room.
Primrose lay on her stomach in front of it, the curve of her neckline visible as she leaned forward, just enough to tease him.
"And also," she added with a smile, "I’d like to have one royal knight."
"Can you help me find someone really reliable to protect me? I’d be so grateful if you could give me a recommendation soon."
She moved closer to the doll and pressed a kiss to its soft cheek. "Thank you for your hard work, husband. I’ll sleep now."
The doll’s eyes flickered rapidly from blue to brown and back again, as if the man on the other end was overwhelmed, both delighted and exasperated.
Because once again, the only kiss he could receive from his wife ... came through a doll.
Primrose giggled softly and pulled the doll into a hug before wrapping herself in her blanket. "Be patient, husband," she whispered. "I’ll kiss you properly ... in three more days."
With that final promise, she let herself drift into a peaceful sleep.

The next morning, she asked Solene to send a letter to Raven.
The message was short, simply asking Raven to visit the palace again because Primrose had enjoyed her company.
"Is there a way to make sure this letter reaches Lady Raven today?" Primrose asked hopefully.
Solene nodded with enthusiasm. "Yes! I can send it with the phoenix, it’ll get there in no time!"
Primrose blinked, stunned. "A phoenix? You mean the bird that can burst into flames?"
She’d heard stories about phoenixes since she was little, but people always said they were myths, beautiful legends she never expected to see in real life.
Who would’ve thought something she believed wasn’t real ... actually existed?
"You’re right," Solene said excitedly. "Phoenixes can fly incredibly fast. They can deliver a letter across the world in just three hours!"
"Unfortunately, they’re extremely rare and hard to care for. The one we have at the palace belongs to His Majesty."
Before Edmund became the King of Noctvaris, the phoenix had been his loyal companion.
People used to say it followed him everywhere he went.
But after he became king, the phoenix suddenly refused to follow him anymore.
"The soldiers say the phoenix has become lazy," Solene added. "It prefers staying in the tower over flying to conflict zones with His Majesty."
Primrose stared at Solene in disbelief. How could a bird just ... decide to be lazy?
More importantly ... why were all of Edmund’s animals so strange?
Take his massive horse, for example. Primrose had heard from the maids that ever since Dante was allowed into the training grounds, soldiers’ shoes had started disappearing one by one.
"Then, can the bird still deliver letters quickly?" she asked cautiously.
"Of course!" Solene grinned. "The phoenix might be lazy, but it’s also greedy. If someone promises it a special treat, it’ll fly anywhere you want right away."
Primrose was speechless.
’Why are all of my husband’s animals obsessed with food?’
"Alright," she sighed, handing the letter over. "I’d like to see Lady Raven’s reply today too. So please, ask the phoenix to wait until she finishes writing back.
