The Knight's Mysterious Maid-Chapter 466: Normal couple (2)
Chapter 466: Normal couple (2)
"You have already been spotted. I don’t think we’ll get to enjoy a peaceful time here in this town. I was looking forward to us walking around in peace," Annalise said, her excitement decreasing as the stares continued.
Was it so much to ask that they could be somewhere and not be approached by anyone looking to speak with Rafael? She wanted a day of being a normal couple, but that was unlikely to happen with Rafael being so popular.
"I would like to go to the room to get changed. I heard some of them mistake me for a pretty man and I don’t want their wrong assumptions to start travelling. By the time you reach the manor, you’ll be hearing that you like men. What is the room?" Annalise asked, ready to be out of sight.
Rafael kept his gaze on Annalise, ignoring the attention he was used to. In his younger days, he never thought being a knight would make him so popular, but these people were always excited to see his knights marching through their towns. It gave them something to watch as it disturbed their daily routine.
Normally, Rafael didn’t mind it as he could get through the many conversations quickly, but seeing that Annalise was no longer thrilled to be here affected his mood.
People who were not staying in the inn had come inside to see him and from what he was hearing, they were curious about the ring on Annalise’s finger.
Rafael picked up the bags and led Annalise to their room so she could be away from prying eyes. This all had to be different for her because she never had this much attention on her when she was away from the border. Coming over to this side, Annalise had blended in, but she couldn’t do that now with him by her side.
Annalise relaxed when they were out of sight from the growing crowd and went back to looking around the inn. The hallway was small for only one person to pass at a time and there were pictures of the king on the wall.
It made Annalise wonder if there were portraits of her family in anyone’s home at the border. She hoped not because it was a little weird.
They walked to the very end of the hall to a door with the number seven on it.
Annalise listened to the key jingle and then the door was pushed open. Rafael entered first to put the bags down to the side for them to be unpacked later if needed. Annalise entered later to see how the rooms of the inn were.
She and Thomas had been curious about them when they travelled around, but they could never afford to stay in a room here even for one night so they slept outside or in a room in the red-light district.
Finally, she could be somewhere without loud moaning and the sounds of a bed creaking were not heard. Annalise did not want to hear those sounds if it did not involve her making them.
There was a small bed, a drawer, a table, and one chair inside of the room.
"Where do we bathe?" Annalise questioned as there were no doors to show that a bathroom was inside the room.
"When you want to bathe you call for the workers or the owners and they will bring in a tub with warm water for you to use. The owners would like to expand to have bathrooms in all the rooms but this is what they can afford as of right now," Rafael answered.
There were better places for him to rent to stay the night, but they were around more crowded places. Rafael wanted to avoid crossing paths with the nobles here and any men wanting to use him to weasel their way into the palace.
"Oh, this is fine with me. It means we have to bathe together so they don’t have to bring warm water for us twice. I won’t wash up now," Annalise said as the owners were busy at the moment. "I wanted to rest, but I also wanted to explore. Are you willing to go through the window with me after I get dressed?"
They could sneak out their window and be on their way to explore the town while everyone gathered out front, waiting for them to come out of their room.
"I’m sorry about all the stares and whatever was said. You would make a pretty man, but still," Rafael said, joking to lighten the mood.
"It is not your fault. It is but it is only because you are well-known. I have to get used to the fact my fiance is popular. I will try my best to bear with it. You did when I was at home and we were stopped often for someone to speak with me. I must return the favour," Annalise said, resting her hands on Rafael’s shoulder as she spoke.
It would be unfair for her to stay bothered by this for long when Rafael was patient with her at home. After the first day, they were able to walk around without someone disturbing them. Maybe here after the first hour, they would be left alone.
"I will join you in going out the window," Rafael agreed to her plan. He would do what he could to let her have a normal day.
Rafael also wanted to enjoy walking around without being disturbed. Being able to walk around with Annalise, having her lead him toward whatever she wanted to buy, and then they could stop somewhere to eat before coming back to the inn to rest.
As Tobias would say, he was a sucker.
"Great," Annalise said, tiptoeing to reach his lips for a quick kiss. "I will get dressed quickly before they start coming around to our window. Do you think I should take off the ring-"
"No," Rafael quickly rejected the idea. "You mustn’t take it off."
The ring would show that she was already taken. That he had proposed to her and Annalise said yes to him.
"Right. That was silly of me to say," Annalise said, enjoying how cute Rafael was with not wanting her to take off the ring. "It will never leave my finger. Other than when I am bathing. I will be quick."
As Annalise got changed, Rafael took a seat on the chair and looked out the window. Behind the inn was nothing but trees with a pathway that would take you to homes if you kept following it. He noted that at night he would have to hang a blanket here so no one could pass by and sneak a glance at them as they slept.
Hearing something drop to the floor, Rafael turned his attention back to Annalise. The day was going well so far as he now got to enjoy seeing her get changed. She was in a rush as if it were a race against time for them to go out. There were still many hours before dark so they could take their time.
"I can feel your burning gaze on me, Rafael. I wish you would admit that you are the pervert of our relationship," Annalise said, knowing he was looking without having to look at him. She slowed down taking off her shirt to let him enjoy the view.
