Chapter 463: Something to share (2)

Annalise shifted in her sleep, trying to make herself more comfortable. Her foot slipping out of the blanket woke her out of her sleep.

She was greeted by the sight of the tent cover and behind it was the shadow of the fire she had started. The fire still appeared big which meant Rafael had thrown more wood on it while she was sleeping.

Annalise couldn’t remember when she had fallen asleep and if she had come to the tent herself to rest. She barely remembered eating a bit of her food and the rest was a mystery from then on.

Annalise stared at the fire and listened to the sounds coming from outside. From the insects that just couldn’t help making their presence known and the faint noises coming from the horses. The fire was the loudest, but she enjoyed the crackling noise as the wood burned.

Annalise shifted her foot to have it back in the blanket and accidentally pressed it against Rafael’s arm around her. She stayed still in an effort to not wake him up, but Rafael was already awake as he had to watch out for danger.

"Are you cold?" Rafael asked. She had been moving around a lot since she went to bed.

Rafael had placed the blanket to cover most of Annalise because he believed she was cold.

"No. My foot slipped out of the blanket so I woke up. Have you slept at all since we ate?" Annalise questioned, hoping that he did and he was not planning to stay awake all night long.

"A little. I’ll go back to sleep after you do. You’ve been moving around a lot. Is it not comfortable?"

"It is comfortable," Annalise honestly answered. "I just find it hard to go to sleep. Something has been on my mind since yesterday. Something that I’ve been trying to find the right time to share with you. I’ve been so busy that I haven’t been paying attention to something important. I didn’t think about it until Giselle mentioned it happening with her."

"You are scaring me, Annalise. What happened?" Rafael questioned, wishing she’d get to the point.

"It’s nothing bad. Well, I haven’t bled as I should for some time now. It should have happened by now and be over with, but it didn’t come. Had the others not started to speak about it yesterday, I would have gone more days not realising it. I’ve carefully counted and considered the days it could have happened if my counting was off, but those days are long gone," Annalise said, her nervousness back as she said this out loud.

"So," Rafael started, taking it all in. "You think that you are pregnant."

Annalise nodded her head. "I could be a fool and forget the last day I bled wrong. I haven’t been paying attention to it recently and now I struggle to count to make sense of it all. I visited a doctor in secret when you were packing up for us to leave today. Right now, I am not the only one to think it, but I must see the doctor when I return."

"If I do not bleed by the time I return, then we will have two children to care for," Annalise said.

Rafael’s mind was filled with many thoughts after hearing this news. One that worried him. "You fell when I proposed to you."

"I mentioned that and since I have not been in pain, it is fine. Unfortunately, we can’t do that anymore. I fell on grass and it wasn’t like you knocked me hard on my ass. You kind of gave me a soft landing by holding me. I am fine," Annalise said, attempting to turn around to face him, but his hand was in the way. "Do you mind loosening your hold on me?"

Rafael did as Annalise wanted, but he moved his hand down first to rest on her flat belly. It was strange to think that the second of their children was there now.

Annalise waited for Rafael to finish caressing her to turn around. "I thought of telling my mother, but she would have cracked and told my father. I will wait until we return and visit the doctor before I share anything."

"I won’t be there when you visit the doctor," Rafael said, disliking his return to the manor more now.

"That also crossed my mind. We can go to a doctor when we visit the orphanage. It is fine to hear from more than one doctor so we know it is true. You’ll be there with me then," Annalise said, trying to cheer him up.

It wasn’t the best time for them to have to go their separate ways, but everything was planned so there was nothing they could do now.

"I will be fine at home. My mother and father will be there. Siena is returning with me and will be staying in our home. There’s nothing to worry about. I promise to not climb any trees or get into flights unless I need to defend myself. I will be following around my father so the most I will do is walk around a lot," Annalise said.

Annalise moved his hand away so she could finally turn to face him. "Rafael," she softly spoke, placing her hand on his face to comfort him. "It will all be fine. It won’t be long before we see each other after we part. Time will go by quickly."

"And I will miss all the changes in your life," Rafael replied.

It wasn’t like he could make a quick trip to see her after receiving a letter about something important. Even if he rode without many breaks, he wouldn’t reach her in time to not miss what he was needed for.

If not for having all the knights he had to lead, Rafael would easily move to the border. ƒrēenovelkiss.com

"Don’t," Annalise said as she had an idea of what he was thinking. "You must stay commander of knights. You need to follow through with your promise to the king. There isn’t anyone I see leading the knights in your place while you stay at the border with me. No one gets them moving around like you do."

"Are you fine with me living far away from you during this time?" Rafael asked.

"I am not fine with it, but when we decided to be together from the start, we knew it would be this way. To make it work, we should be faster with putting up the new manor so we can all move in sooner. Honestly, I am leaning more toward calling it a castle. If we make it bigger than the manor you have now, it could. I’m trying to distract you from worrying," Annalise said.

She knew Rafael would be this way, but she didn’t want to hide it from him until she returned and needed to send him a letter to tell him. It was bad enough she waited a day later to tell him.

If she did, Rafael might have been on this trip alone to get Lydia to bring her back to the border.

"I must worry, Annalise. I am happy, but it doesn’t change how much I worry about you being without me," Rafael replied.
