Chapter 435: Why I can’t stay (3)

"Have they always been this childish?" Annalise muttered, trying her hardest to block out the noise coming from outside.

Her mother’s voice was heard for a moment as she questioned what Phillip and Rafael were doing, but then it became soft, most likely because she had given up.

Annalise didn’t see why everyone had gone outside when it was obvious her father wasn’t trying to kill Rafael and she couldn’t imagine that Rafael was the one to start this. Annalise imagined that her father might have either told Rafael to pick up a sword or sneaked and attacked Rafael and now this was the point they were at.

"Why am I cutting vegetables when they are outside having fun?" Annalise wondered, putting down her knife as it wasn’t fair she was inside doing this.

This was time she could take to think about all the things she wanted to do with Rafael before he would go back to the manor alone. She also needed to think of how she would tell him that he was going back to the manor without her because they had made plans to go back together.

"Oh no," Annalise panicked, realising something important she had to do with Rafael. "Lydia."

It was on her mind up until the point she returned home that she was going to the orphanage to see Lydia again. She wanted to go with Rafael straight from here while the knights would return to the manor. It would be their first trip alone for her to see more of the kingdom on her way there.

Annalise had so much to do here, but at the same time, she didn’t want to prolong going to see Lydia.

She only needed a little over a week away from home to go to see Lydia to spend more time with her and see if it would work for Lydia to be with her and Rafael. They had to make it known that Annalise was from the border so Annalise anticipated that there might be some resistance to let Lydia come with her because no one seemed to know about what Nicolas was doing or about his relationship with Iris.

’Your father is something," Celine said as she returned inside, frustrated that her husband and Rafael were still playing around with swords. She didn’t try to break it up anymore because the two seemed to be enjoying it.

Phillip might have started off trying to hurt Rafael, but she could tell he was enjoying that Rafael was putting up a good fight. It was the closest he would get to fighting River.

Celine was surprised to see Annalise still sitting at the table when there was a fight going on outside. Celine would have expected Annalise to want to see who would win between Rafael and Phillip.

"Why are you still inside, Annalise? Did it upset you to hear about them fighting?" Celine asked, ready to break the fight up if it had upset Annalise. It wasn’t like Annalise to stay inside.

"No. They can fight all they want. I was thinking about why I cannot stay here yet. You might want to sit for this because it will shock you," Annalise said, tapping the chair beside her for her mother to sit on.

Celine’s mind became filled with the possibility of Annalise being pregnant, but she didn’t want to say it out loud to upset Annalise if she wasn’t. Their earlier conversation ended with Annalise not knowing. However, it did make her think that in the coming days or even weeks, if it were revealed that Annalise was pregnant, the fight outside would become real.

Celine took her seat beside Annalise and prepared herself for the good or bad news that was about to come. ƒгeewebnovёl.com

"I agree with you that I should be here to start taking on father’s work, but there is something important Rafael and I had planned. There is a little girl I met at an orphanage during the time I worked for Rafael and recently, I had the thought that Rafael and I should adopt her. I felt weird when I thought about the fact we don’t have her with us. I still do right now," Annalise said, getting a strange feeling in her chest.

"We planned to go to the orphanage to spend time with her to see if she would want to come with us. I don’t want to go there one day and then ask to bring her home with us. I wanted to spend a few days there with her and then- are you crying, mother?" Annalise asked, only now seeing her mother’s tears after looking away from the vegetables she focused on as she spoke.

"My eyes just teared up for a moment. I didn’t think the news would be you wanting to bring a child into your family. Honestly, I thought you would be a little scared about becoming a mother but wanting to take in a child means you have a lot of faith in yourself because there isn’t much time to prepare yourself with the child already here. Had I known, I wouldn’t have brought up you needing to stay to make you feel conflicted," Celine said, regretting their earlier conversation now.

"Give me a moment," Celine requested because she had to fully take in the fact Annalise wanted to have a daughter. Becoming a grandmother would happen sooner than she took. If Annalise was able to meet the little one and fall in love, Celine didn’t doubt she would love her too.

"Okay," Annalise answered, open to giving her mother all the time she needed. She knew how much this had to be a surprise to her mother to hear that might be a granddaughter the next time she returned home.

"Rafael is truly fine with it? You know how some people get with only wanting their blood children. Sometimes they treat the child poorly."

"He doesn’t mind it. His father was also adopted by someone and if not for some family conflict, his mother would have adopted children. They visit the orphanage every year because that is where River grew up. It doesn’t matter that she had parents before us. You don’t need to worry about that becoming a problem one day," Annalise said, certain of it because she knew Rafael’s character and herself.

"I am starting to think of how everyone here would take it. If she wanted to take after me, would they allow her to challenge other children Rafael and I might have? She will be a Woods in my eyes, but I wonder how others would see her. My position here will bring a lot of attention to her and I don’t want it to scare her," Annalise said, finding the negatives to bringing Lydia here.

It was always the Woods who took on the role of leader. Though Lydia would be a Woods to Annalise and then a Callahan one day, it might become a messy situation when one of her children had to take over.

"Oh, Annalise. You are worrying about something that is so far away. If you say she is your daughter, then she is your daughter. Who is to say that she would want to become the leader here? There is so much that she might want to be when she comes of age. I don’t think you have anything to worry about," Celine said, knowing it would all work out.

Annalise was able to get her father to accept knights coming here so what couldn’t she do for her daughter?

This little girl would become Celine’s granddaughter so anyone questioning if she is a Woods would need to stay clear of any food or water because they would drop dead. "Go see her and I will help your father until you return," said Celine.
