The Knight's Mysterious Maid-Chapter 399: Time to leave (3)
Chapter 399: Time to leave (3)
"It is time! We must leave now or we will not get there on time as we planned," Annalise said, unable to keep still as it was now time to go to Lockwood.
She had thought the three days would take a long time to come, but it surprisingly went by fast thanks to how much they had to prepare. Now they were all packed up and ready to leave but Rafael was moving like an old man in Annalise’s eyes.
"He must come quickly before you pull him down the stairs," Siena said, thoroughly enjoying Annalise’s excitement. She also wished that everyone would move faster so she could start looking around at parts of the town she had not seen before.
"We are still on time," Logan said, walking up the stairs to join the women at the front door. "Beatrice is giving her usual speech that everything will go well. You should button your coat all the way. It is colder than usual today," he said, looking at Siena’s white coat.
Siena pulled the open part of her coat together. "It is not cold right here, but I will button it before we walk to the carriage. How will you fare with riding on a horse during this weather? We should have more carriages. Like the one I rode in to get to Travis’s mansion."
Siena wanted nothing with what reminded her of Travis, but now that they were to travel she wanted the carriage to help stop some of the knights from riding in the cold weather.
"This snow is nothing. We’ve travelled through far worse weather trying to find enemies and not getting a warm bath for days. If I can’t survive this, Rafael might consider throwing me out of the knights. And look," Logan said, leaning down for Siena to look inside his armour.
Siena blushed because of him telling her to look inside his armour but still tiptoed to get a good look. "Oh, there is fur inside. I thought there was only some on the outside. Then you will be a little warm but you should still have a coat."
"We won’t be wearing our armour all the way. It’s only until we get out of town and then we will change into clothes that will keep us warm. Whenever we are heading out, there can be that one group of people to throw something or try to attack," said Logan.
"Why would they want to attack you? You help to protect the land," Siena said, angry that the knights would be attacked.
’What is happening here?’ Annalise thought. She was in a rush to leave and here these two were having a pleasant conversation that didn’t involve her.
Annalise sometimes wanted to tell the two to just say that they were attracted to each other and go somewhere alone. She hoped that after everything Logan was telling Siena now about surviving the cold, he wouldn’t be the one person to freeze later on.
As fun as it would be to see him freeze, Annalise wasn’t ready to see his embarrassment.
"Finally," Annalise said, looking away from the forming couple to Rafael coming down the stairs with Beatrice right behind him.
"I’m sorry to have kept him so long, Annalise. I had my chance to have a word with him so I had to take it. I only got to speak with you this morning. You must be safe," Beatrice said, walking to Annalise to finish buttoning up her coat. "Keep your coat button up at all times so you do not catch a cold. Drink something warm when you can. I brought a little basket for you to have something snacks on in the carriage."
"What about me, Lady Beatrice?" Logan asked. He could do with a few more snacks so he wouldn’t have to buy any more so soon.
"You and all the knights ate your share this morning. No one told you to eat them so fast. I have nothing more to offer you so you should find some snacks along the way. What is with your hair, Logan?" Beatrice asked, moving from Annalise to Logan. They were all not ready to leave. "If you are to meet the king, please take better care of your hair."
Logan touched his hair, thinking nothing was wrong with it. He paid special attention to his hair and brushed it more than usual to have it just right for today. He glanced at Siena’s way and found her staring at his head as if to find what was wrong with it. He internally screamed, wanting a mirror to appear so he could see what was wrong.
"I will go ahead to the carriage while Logan fixes the problem with his hair. Come with me," Annalise said, grabbing Rafael’s hand to pull him along with her.
With him near the carriages, everyone else would be ready to move. They only needed to wait for Beatrice to finish tidying everyone up.
Rafael caught Annalise before she could slip on the ice which had been covered by snow. "Slow down, Annalise. We will get there as we planned, but we won’t be getting there fast if you fall. Did I hurt you?" He asked as Annalise looked panicked as she patted her coat gently.
Annalise sighed in relief when she felt it still moving.
"Is there something in your coat, Annalise?" Rafael questioned, going to unbutton it quickly to take a peep but Annalise stepped back. "Is that spider in your coat? You can’t take it with you. How long does it take for these things to die?" He muttered.
He was tired of hearing about Herbert.
Annalise gasped, surprised by what came out of Rafael’s mouth. "How dare you speak of death! That was rude, Rafael. Would you like it if I asked how long it would take for you to die? And Herbert isn’t with me right now so end your needy behaviour and let me get inside of the carriage," she said, keeping her coat closed.
"I can see your coat moving, Annalise. There is something inside and you are to put back whatever it is. When did you get another pet?" Rafael questioned, still trying to see what was inside since he had to be travelling with it. Possibly sharing a room with it.
Rafael didn’t know of anything other than the spider, but now that he thought back, Annalise had been spending some time outside and then she recently started staying in her old room, not allowing anyone to go in. He thought it meant the spider had gone missing or dead and she wanted to be alone. He should have known to check for another pet.
Annalise backed away from Rafael. "Take another step toward me and I will flip you."
Beatrice sighed, watching from the front door as Rafael and Annalise played some kind of odd game. "Please keep an eye on those two for me. When they are out of my sight, they worry me," she said.
Beatrice could only leave Logan or Siena to make sure nothing went wrong with her son’s relationship. If she received a letter that something was going wrong, she would pack her bags and head to Lockwood. "The two of you should go before you get left behind. I hope you two bring back good news for me," she said as she sensed something blossoming between the two.
There was finally love filling the manor and it hurt that now that it was here, Annalise and Rafael were taking all the couples Beatrice wanted to watch with them. Beatrice was going to settle for hearing good news from her son or one of the other knights when they returned.
It had been a surprise to see Mavis and the head cook looking quite close to each other when she arrived this morning.
Meanwhile, Annalise got into the carriage without Rafael getting to see what was inside her coat. He would see what she had when they reached Lockwood.
"When don’t you tell him that it is just a kitten you found wandering around the snow and the poor thing was going to die if you did not help it? He must be thinking that it is a snake or worse," Heidi said, watching Annalise finally open up the coat to show the tiny kitten.
"I will surprise him with it when we get to Lockwood. He would make me leave it behind if he knew. I also think that he believes it is something which might want to bite him because it will have to sleep in our bedroom. He’ll stay away from me as long as I make him think it is something that wants to bite him. You might, won’t you?" Annalise said, touching the kitten’s soft fur.
"I still think he will be relieved to know it is only a kitten. It is better than the spider and I had fun taking care of it for you. Hiding it like I had some big secret task was also fun," said Heidi.
"Are you speaking about the kitten?" Siena asked as she entered the carriage with Logan’s help.
"Say a word about a kitten and you will end up missing," Annalise warned Logan who gulped in response.
