Chapter 309: Convincing (3)

"Are you planning to marry this man?" Phillip inquired. He wasn’t ready to hear plans for a wedding and Annalise changing her last name even though he would like to hear about grandchildren.

"Why does that matter if you already plan to try to be around him? Will you go back to hating him if you hear about me marrying him? Rafael and I have not been together long enough for us to talk about marriage. I don’t want to hear about weddings from anyone," Annalise replied.

She was hoping it wouldn’t come to a suggestion about her and Rafael getting married for a truce to be done. Marriage was not always the answer. She was never going to get married because it was what someone else wanted. It was a matter concerning her and Rafael only.

Phillip couldn’t agree more with Annalise. Hearing that she was still not ready for marriage gave him hope that he could one day get rid of this knight. He couldn’t fathom his daughter being in love with River’s son forever and then he would become family with River.

Annalise noticed her father’s happiness over her not wanting to get married yet, but wasn’t bothered by it. Whatever kept him from attacking Rafael was good in her eyes.

Even though she loved Rafael, Annalise didn’t want to hear about marriage yet. They had just somewhat started over and she wanted to enjoy how their relationship was now before taking a huge step. There was more about each other they had to know.

"Your mother won’t share our sentiments, but then again she has been waiting so long to be able to share a moment with you speaking about someone you like to not care if you marry soon. I am overprotective of you because I love you. It is not easy for me to trust someone from that side. I react in ways you don’t like because I can’t bear losing you," said Phillip.

He had unfortunately lost many close to him, but all the pain he felt from watching those people fall would never measure up to the pain of losing his daughter. From the moment she was born and placed in his arms, he was protective of her.

Phillip couldn’t bring himself to send her off with just anyone which was why he never entertained talks about her marriage. To further ensure her safety, he taught her everything he knew when it came to fighting so she would be able to protect herself when he was not around.

When he could not find her many weeks ago, Phillip wanted to leave to search every corner of the kingdom for her, but with his position, he could not. Each day was torture for him as he thought she might have perished.

Now that Annalise was finally back home, he wanted to keep her safe, but she was tangled up with a knight. Life was about to get even crazier for Annalise with so many people judging her relationship now that it was revealed who she was.

"You won’t lose me, father. You have trained me well enough that should Rafael have turned out to be dangerous, I would have killed him. Don’t tell this to anyone else, but I once flipped him because he was annoying me," Annalise whispered, knowing it would please her father to hear. The woods would always defeat the Callahans.

It brought a smile to her face to see her father laughing at this. ƒrēenovelkiss.com

"Knocked him on his ass?" Phillip asked, stopping his laughter to hear her say it again.

"I did," Annalise answered. Her father enjoying this made her want to laugh. It was about time someone enjoyed the fact she had flipped Rafael.

"Of course you did! You’re my daughter. Must have been the shock of his life when you did it. I remember the first time your mother did it to me. That was when I knew I wanted to be with her forever. It was shocking with some pain in my back and ass, but then I got excited-"

"Father please," Annalise interrupted him so he could stop there.

"Not that. I meant she amused me and I wanted to see what else about her would surprise me. You’re a good mix of me and your mother. I still don’t know if that is something good since your mother and I had our days of getting up to no good in our youth. Still, I am proud of the person you are now. I hope you don’t need to continue this fight that has nothing to do with you," Phillip admitted.

This fight between the Castro people was started by people who were long dead. Phillip would have liked to spend more time with his family than have to continuously defend the land that was theirs. He would have liked for Annalise to not know about war when she was young and didn’t need to be heavily trained to protect herself.

He would like for her to have peace in her life in the future so if this current king was willing to talk and finally listen to this not being his land so he could not do as he pleased, Phillip would agree on a truce so that his family did not need to be at the forefront risking their lives.

"That is good to hear. I was worried about disappointing you with all of this. I have always wanted to make you proud as I got older. I will do my best to make sure this war comes to an end without more of us having to die. Would you come with us if we were welcomed to the palace?" Annalise asked.

"I won’t leave to speak to the king. Our people will be confused and still afraid. Their leader and future leader cannot both leave them. I will stay behind while you go ahead to finish what you are starting, but you must take some guards with you this time. Thomas isn’t enough," Phillip said, already putting together a group in his mind.

Rafael and his knights were accepting his daughter, but the same couldn’t be said about everyone else at the palace. There might be some idiot who disobeys the king’s orders and tries to harm Annalise. Rafael had an army, but Phillip would sleep peacefully at night knowing Ezra or someone else he trusted was with Annalise as she travelled far.

Annalise didn’t mind having to take others with her since she wanted to show them the things she liked.

"Would you be willing to let Rafael come see our home?" Annalise asked, flashing her father a smile to convince him. She wanted to show Rafael what the border was truly like. Why it upset her to be called wild, a savage, or a barbarian.

Her people didn’t have a name for themselves, but if they had to start now, it would not be any of those three words.

"Take it slow, Annalise. I need time to think about letting him come far out on our land and if I do, don’t expect that I would let you two share a room. I don’t care what happened when I was not around. Maybe I should put Ezra in charge and travel with you," Phillip said, seriously considering it so he could keep a close eye on Annalise.

Annalise shook her head at her father. What would he do if she had said she wanted to marry Rafael now? Even though Annalise wanted her father to realise that it was time to let her go to do what she wanted, she enjoyed this side of him. She would enjoy watching him slowly change his mind about Rafael.

"Father, I am honestly surprised that you are not asking who I care for more between you and Rafael. You have always said you should be number one," Annalise said, remembering the speech he gave her when she was young.

It was after she came home with a pretty flower in her hands and her father assumed it was given to her by a boy. Annalise never got the chance to tell him she had picked the flower so the spider in her bedroom would have something to walk around on.

"Because it is still me that you care for most. I have no doubt about that," Phillip answered.
