The Knight's Mysterious Maid-Chapter 303: If you still love me (3)
Chapter 303: If you still love me (3)
"That doesn’t look good," Christian said, glancing at Logan to see if he was on board with riding out to Rafael.
It was only supposed to be Rafael and the leader speaking, but there was someone yelling and riding to them. He was uncertain about moving since Rafael made no attempt to attack the person beside him or ride back to where he would be safe.
Christian was also confused by the person beside Rafael turning out to be a woman or a man with much longer hair than Rafael. For a second, he thought he was being haunted by the name Annalise.
"He’s taking too long. Just kill the leader," Martin said, angered by Rafael not taking the moment to get rid of the leader. Why talk when he could just kill the leader and let them join him in wiping out the barbarians?
Martin looked down at the bag hanging at the side of his horse. The gun was in there ready to be used. Since Rafael seemed to be afraid, it was up to him to save the day and have his name remembered as the person to end all of this.
"We attack!" Martin yelled and used his feet to get his horse to start moving. "Guards!"
"You!" Christian yelled, attempting to grab Martin before he rode off to disturb Rafael. "Shit," he cursed as he missed reaching Martin’s arm.
From the men behind them, the border guards were the first to move to join Martin in attacking. As anyone would expect, their enemy started to move to protect their leader.
Christian and Logan had no choice but to join in so they could keep Rafael alive. "Defend the commander!" He yelled, making his horse move to catch up with the others. If Martin survived this, Christian planned on finding Martin to kill him.
They had one simple task of communicating an idea quickly before getting the men to move. Martin getting his guards to follow him messed up their formation and made their enemy react to charging at them.
Meanwhile, Annalise rode away from Rafael to try blocking her father so he could not reach Rafael. She was yet to understand why everything was going wrong so fast. Why was her father here and why were the two sides starting to attack?
"Father! You must not attack him," Annalise said as her father reached her. He looked pissed off, and she could only think of her mother telling him about the relationship she had with Rafael as the reason why.
Phillip wasn’t ready to listen to Annalise when he was hellbent on killing Rafael first. He should have known that something was being plotted behind his back with his mother and daughter. Why were they going so hard to have Annalise speak with his man.
Phillip’s sword was already out, ready to end Rafael’s life. He didn’t fear the men charging toward him. Not when he had to kill the man before him for getting involved with Annalise. "Do not get in my way, Annalise. I will kill him and deal with you later," he said, trying to go around her, but she kept blocking his path.
Annalise turned to Rafael who was looking back at his knights and guards coming toward them. He too seemed to be angry with his people charging without his command. "You need to go, Rafael!" Annalise yelled to him. "I will hold my people off if you can get your side to stop attacking."
"You," Phillip said, thrown off by her protecting Rafael to this extent. He had convinced himself that nothing about her had changed after her trip far from home, but he was wrong. He should have kept a closer eye on her so he would notice this change in his daughter. How she foolishly fell for the enemy.
Phillip was stuck on believing that Rafael was using her.
Annalise wasn’t acting like herself all over the man not far away from him. There was already so much doubt about her interest, and now if this were to spread, some might say she wasn’t near ready to be the leader.
Rafael raised his hand to signal for his men to stay put, but Martin continued to ride forward with his guards following his lead. He was about to ride off and leave Annalise with the man he now knew to be her father, but then he noticed something being pointed in Martin’s hands.
"That bastard," Rafael muttered, turning his horse to go to Annalise to block her from getting hit by Martin’s gun. He should have known the sly bastard would have another gun to use. He had been giving Martin the benefit of the doubt that he would not be so foolish as to disobey the king’s order.
"Annalise!" He called to get her attention. Despite the fact he was still angry with her, he did not want her to die. Not seeing her again he could live with only if she was alive. "Get out of here. Take your people and go! I will send my knights back."
Rafael watched as Annalise took her eyes off her father to look at him. He could hear the trotting noise of Martin’s horse getting closer.
He reached Annalise ignoring her father fuming with anger. If her father wanted to fight, they could do that after he got Annalise to safety.
"Go-"
Rafael’s words were interrupted by a shot being fired. He grabbed Annalise, pulling her close to the point she almost slipped off of her horse to shield her with his body. He didn’t know if his armour could stop a bullet from doing damage, but it was what he hoped for at the moment.
"Shit," Rafael heard Martin curse.
Rafael leaned away from Annalise to inspect her for a wound. He didn’t feel any pain in his body so the bullet hadn’t hit him. Thankfully, there was no blood found anywhere on Annalise, and she wasn’t groaning.
He moved quickly to take her helmet from her hands to put it back on her head so he could then smack her horse to make it ride off to take her back to her people. His anger was now long forgotten.
Annalise tried to steady herself before she fell off her horse and grabbed the reins of her horse to prepare to ride back with her father to stop everyone from attacking. There could still be peace if the two sides were stopped now before blood was spilt.
Annalise was clueless as to what the noise heard just now was, but seeing that Rafael had reached out to shield her when he had not forgiven her, she knew there had to be some grave danger, so she wanted to get her father out of here fast.
It was not time for any of them to die today.
Rafael let go of Annalise and turned back to Martin who was struggling with the gun. He did not have the slightest clue what was wrong with the gun. He just wanted the gun out of Martin’s hands. "Martin. Call off your men!" Rafael yelled, frustrated that they all moved without his command. They incited a fight before a proper conversation was had.
"Father, we must retreat. Father!" Annalise yelled, trying to block her father once more, but he slipped by her to attack Rafael now that he was distracted, trying to protect them. Why couldn’t they stop being angry and just listen for once?
Annalise tried to grab Phillip’s right hand which the sword was in, but as she grabbed his hand to stop him, she watched as Rafael was pushed forward by the sword penetrating his armour.
Annalise stared in disbelief at her father’s weapon that was stuck in Rafael’s side.
Phillip pulled out his sword to get another attack in before the knights could reach him, but as he aimed his sword for the second time, he was stopped by Annalise using her sword to hit his sword out of his hand.
Phillip watched his sword fall and then turned to Annalise already hopping off her horse to sit behind Rafael on his. She glared at Phillip as she grabbed the reins and led the horse away from the two armies.
"Annalise," Rafael said, holding his side where there was pain. The pain was greater than any pain he ever endured so it made him think that there was poison on the sword.
"Just hold on. I will find somewhere to take care of you," Annalise replied, not sparing a glance at the war she was leaving behind.
