The Knight's Mysterious Maid-Chapter 258: Judging (1)
Chapter 258: Judging (1)
Annalise kept Beatrice distracted by trying on a pair of shoes Beatrice had picked out for her.
Beatrice had noticed how uncomfortable she was with the heels on the shoes she wore to the ball and picked out a pair of shoes without much of a heel on them for Annalise to wear daily.
"I must get something for you," Annalise said as just like with Rafael, she had received plenty from Beatrice.
"Nonsense," Beatrice said, dismissing Annalise’s offer. Annalise was already gifting her daily with her interactions with Rafael. Beatrice had never been so entertained when It came to Rafael’s love life. "I don’t want anything just because I am buying you shoes. I have no one to spoil aside from Rafael and River. It is nice to have someone around who is not interested in weapons." ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
Annalise smiled as it was all she could think to do at the moment. She didn’t know what else to do with Beatrice thinking that she did not like weapons. She probably liked them more than River and Rafael put together. If Beatrice were to know this and that fact and that she had gotten into fights many times, Beatrice might stop thinking she was a good pick for Rafael.
Annalise now wondered how Beatrice would react to her love for snakes and creatures others were not fond of.
"I am still going to get you a gift when all of this settles. Is there anything you would like?" Annalise asked.
"I would like it if you never worry about me like those two men do. See, this is why I should have been blessed with a daughter," Beatrice said, removing Annalise’s hands from covering her ears. "Do you mind taking a look to see if my husband is finished? Don’t go too far out. Just take a peep."
Annalise was more than happy to see what was happening. She stepped away from Beatrice and went back to the door to open it and poked her head out to look at where they came from.
The workers were moving quickly to pick up shoes on the floor and the knights were now inside with Siena’s guard unconscious on the floor.
He wasn’t bleeding enough to Annalise’s liking, but she would let it go for now.
River was the first one to notice Annalise was no longer in the room with the others so he approached her. He shook the right hand he used to punch the man with and hoped Beatrice would not notice how red it was.
The workers were being paid off to keep quiet about what happened and were going to lend him a room to keep the guard. What he needed to do now was get Beatrice and Annalise to a safe spot. Then find out about Rafael.
Annalise got out of River’s way so he could go to speak to Beatrice.
"We’re leaving soon," River announced.
"I suppose it was too hot out anyway," Beatrice said, trying to hide that she was disappointed the day was already over before it got started.
"We are not leaving the market yet. The day will continue as planned while I find us somewhere else to stay in case our home is not secure. He will not disrupt our life," River said, taking hold of Beatrice’s hand when she stood up.
It was confirmed that this was Travis’s doing when they fought the guard. He was yet to learn what Travis intended to do since the guard was knocked out, but he could guess the guard was here with them to mess with Beatrice when the time came.
"Good. I have come to hate running inside whenever my brother makes a move. I’ve missed out on too many good memories because of running inside when Travis acts up. I only need someone to figure out what is happening with my son. I cannot pretend to enjoy this day without knowing about Rafael," said Beatrice.
With her husband and son having to defend her so much, it was time she stopped being afraid because that reaction was what Travis wanted. She was not a fighter, but if she were to get near Travis, she would try her best to hit him. It wouldn’t be enough to match the pain he caused her over the years, but knowing that she hit him would be a start to truly not fearing him.
Annalise looked away from River and Beatrice to Logan coming toward them. "Is something wrong?" She asked.
"There are men outside. Five of them," Logan alerted River. He had no time to pull River to the side and say this quietly so as to not make Beatrice aware. "The knights and I can take them. We’ll have to explain it to the town guards when they come looking for us."
"They might not attack us in the market with so many people around. I will lead my wife and everyone further into the market. Have one of the knights stay here to sneak out the guard and place him in the carriage. Then have the carriage come to us near the craftsman’s place," River gave the order.
Logan nodded his head and left to pick out one of the three knights to be the one to get the guard out of there.
"Did you pick out the shoes you want?" River asked Beatrice.
Beatrice touched River’s cheek. "If it is too dangerous for us to walk in the market, let us go somewhere safe. The day is not ruined as long as I get to spend time with the people I care for. Besides, I have plenty of shoes and dresses at home."
"It would be best if we stay here. If you need someone to get the carriage, I will go," Annalise said, stepping up to do it since there might be less attention on her.
By now she had to be known as Rafael’s maid, but the men outside were after Beatrice and River. Maybe she could slip by and if she didn’t, she had people who wanted to take her home watching her every move. They would help her.
"That won’t happen-"
Yelling at the front of the shop interrupted River and soon Annalise heard the voices of the knights mixed with voices she did not know. River let go of Beatrice to leave and join the knights to take care of who came in.
Annalise rushed to close the door and lock it once more.
"We should leave and find a way out while they are fighting," Kayla suggested.
"If you and Siena wish to leave, you can. They are not after you and I would rather you not get in the way of me protecting Beatrice," Annalise replied.
"We should stay to be like a shield to you. Annalise-" Siena gasped, getting to her feet when the door of the room they were in shook because of someone throwing their body against it.
Annalise started near the door to press her body against it to stop it from being pushed open, but stopped when the door was hit again and she saw the tip of a knife being used. She looked around for something she could use as a weapon, but there was nothing.
"Why did we have to be in a shoe shop?" She muttered. "And why are there no windows in this hot room?"
"Fear of shoes being passed out the window instead of being paid for," Kayla answered.
Annalise backed away from the door as it was continuously attacked with a knife to create cracks to help break it down. She stood in front of Beatrice to keep her safe if the person would make it in before River would return.
Annalise readied herself as the locked door was not going to be able to withstand the attack on it from the other end and eventually broke, slowly opening to reveal a man she did not know.
"Beatrice," he said, walking toward the woman he was hired to take. He raised his sword to warn them not to run.
When he was close enough, Annalise pushed the blade of the sword away from her and Beatrice, ignoring that the sharpness of the blade cut her hand. While he was thrown off by her pushing the sword, she raised her left foot to aim for his head with great force.
Her first attempt to hit his head didn’t succeed because of her dress. "Dresses," Annalise muttered.
Annalise stepped back to avoid his attack with the sword, causing Beatrice to fall back into the chair she previously sat in.
Finding some courage, Siena left Kayla’s side to attempt to push the man. Unfortunately, he noticed her move and aimed his sword at her, but once he realised who she was, he made no attempt to hurt her because of his orders.
Annalise used this distraction to charge at him and knock him off of his feet. The two of them ended up falling onto the floor because he grabbed Annalise to pull her down with him.
