The Knight's Mysterious Maid-Chapter 256: Attack (2)
Chapter 256: Attack (2)
"This doesn’t feel right, Logan. Why does he need to go off to fight anyone when he is not wearing armour? There are town guards here. Let them go take care of who is causing trouble," Annalise said, hoping she could awaken some sense in Logan for him to go to bring back Rafael.
The knights should be able to take care of whoever was causing trouble without Rafael’s help. That was what he trained them endlessly for. She couldn’t shake the feeling that they should not be separated now.
Annalise would feel better if she could join him to fight and ensure that nothing happened to him, but then there was Beatrice. Only three knights and River were here to guard her. She knew that a former commander River wouldn’t let anyone lay a finger on his wife, but having another person to defend Beatrice wouldn’t hurt.
"He’s been in more danger than this and came out alive. Now is not the time for you to get involved. You either need to get used to the fact he will head right into dangerous fights or end whatever you have with him," Logan said, giving Annalise a warning now before she got too deep with Rafael.
It had nothing to do with his past feelings for her. Saying this to hope she would leave Rafael and come to him. He already knew that he had lost so he wanted the best for the two of them. Logan was merely letting Annalise know the life that awaited her if she would stay with Rafael. To stay with a knight.
There was constant worrying about their safety since they got into many fights which ended in death. Annalise needed to get used to it and fast since Rafael’s uncle was creating a lot of problems. Logan wondered how she would take learning that as soon as they left this town, Rafael was to head to the palace. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
"I know that I cannot stop him from running to a fight to help the other knights, but the least someone could do was offer him their armour. Doesn’t it feel like this was a trap to separate us? Attack the house we were staying in while we were away. His uncle is not going to kill Rafael. Who do you think he is after from this attack?" Annalise asked.
She was worried about Rafael and Beatrice. What Siena told her about Travis seemingly wanting to kill Beatrice had never left her mind.
"It would have been better to bring the knights we left behind here so we could all stick together. Make use of the town guards. Travis might not kill Rafael and I don’t know much about the man, but if I were in his shoes with Rafael taking a long to get married, I would give him a little cut for a warning," said Annalise, fearing that Rafael might not return as he left her.
Logan shared Annalise’s thoughts, but he was ordered to stay here to protect Siena while looking for a good opportunity to silence Siena’s guard. As much as he would like to join Rafael in getting rid of the men who attacked the house, he had an order to follow.
"Rafael is the commander for a reason. He has led us to many victories. It might seem that he is heading into a fight without any thought, but that man has a plan. Do as he said and return to his mother’s side. You are preventing me from doing my job," said Logan as standing around talking to Annalise prevented him from watching Siena’s guard.
Annalise felt her frustration grow since there was nothing she could do but wait around Beatrice until Rafael sent word that the fight was over. There was so much to worry about from her people hiding somewhere in the busy market to Rafael fighting without a single piece of armour on him.
Annalise muttered a few curses under her breath as she turned around to go inside to tell River what Rafael said and keep close to Beatrice. Siena’s guard needed to hope that Logan got to him first because if she did, she would have him regretting life.
"Get my charms from that man."
Annalise longed for a fight, but now she wished today would have been a peaceful day for everyone to spend time together. For Beatrice’s smile to not vanish and for her to have fun buying gifts for Rafael. One day of enjoying herself without worrying was all that she asked for.
Annalise entered the shop filled with shoes and found that the group was thankfully separated. Siena, Kayla, and the guard were on the left side while Beatrice and River were on the right side.
Annalise approached Beatrice and River, trying to not act suspicious. It wasn’t time to draw attention to the guard that something happened with Rafael and the knights already.
"Mister Callahan," Annalise said, tapping River’s arm to get his attention. This was perhaps the first time she ever addressed him, and she wasn’t certain if she could be casual with him as she was with
Beatrice.
River turned his attention from Beatrice to Annalise and before his eyes stayed on her for more than three seconds, he looked to the door for his son since Annalise should be with him. He found the knights standing outside the door with their hands on their swords and their faces unable to hide their anger.
"Where is he?" River asked, wanting the answer right away. "Where is my son?"
"The house is being attacked and he said we are not to return until he sends a message that it is safe. The knights left behind are to protect us and take that man," Annalise whispered, smiling to act like they weren’t talking about anything important because of the guard sneaking glances.
"Annalise, take my wife and Siena inside one of the rooms to try on shoes in private. Be sure to compliment her a lot," River said.
Annalise understood his words which asked her to make noise so Beatrice wouldn’t be aware of what was being done outside the room she was in. Annalise wished she could be out here to kick the man’s ass and threaten him that if the giant she was currently with returned with one scratch, she would enjoy peeling his skin from his body.
Annalise nodded her head to let him know that she understood what she was to do. She walked around River and went to Beatrice. "Lady Beatrice, we should start trying on some shoes. I want to see how pretty they will be on your feet. Lady Siena has also picked out a few so we can share a room to give our opinions."
Beatrice looked across the room at Siena’s maid holding two pairs of shoes in her hands. "Very well. River doesn’t like to admit it, but he is not fond of standing around trying on shoes. We must be quick, so the men don’t grow bored waiting for us. Please show us to a room to sit and try on the shoes," she said to one of the young women working in the shoe shop.
"I won’t be long," Beatrice said to River as she held Annalise’s hands so they could walk together.
Siena followed with Kayla leaving behind River and the guard who immediately looked at each other once the women left.
Annalise let Beatrice, Siena, and Kayla enter the room first and then entered last to lock the door behind her. She would act as their guard now.
Beatrice was first to take a seat and look up at Annalise. "He tries too hard to keep me living in bliss, doesn’t he? I am aware of what he is doing. I am quite used to him sending me away when there is danger. Is Rafael alright?"
Beatrice missed Rafael’s presence and seeing how Annalise rushed her to this room after speaking with River, something was wrong. Her hands started to shake as fear filled her body. She was always filled with fear when her husband or son had to leave her to fight.
"He will be," Annalise answered. If Rafael returned wounded, she was going to give him a good smack for letting someone injure him. "He is the great commander of the Callahan knights. Nothing will happen to him or your husband. The knights will help them fight."
"Right," Beatrice said, grabbing a handful of her dress in each hand to calm her fears. "Now that we are alone, let us properly introduce ourselves. What is your last name, Siena? You and everyone who introduces you seem to enjoy leaving it out."
