Chapter 248: Late night talk (1)

"You want me to sleep here with you? Your mother-"

"I know what time she wakes and I will be sure to not let her find you here when morning comes. You fail to realise sometimes how I don’t want my mother to find us together. I don’t need to hear about children and marriage right now. Wait here," Rafael said, getting out of the tub first to find something to dry off Annalise with.

"I think if your mother knew that we were like this right now, she would be silent. Excited, but she would give us some space to make a relationship grow. Getting angry with anyone interrupting our time together. We are supposed to be going into town tomorrow which means she might come knocking at our doors early to remind us," said Annalise.

Annalise stepped out of the tub and drained the rest of the water. She hugged her chest as the air suddenly became cold.

Rafael returned to her side to wrap a large blanket around her to cover her entire body and then lifted her to take her to the bed.

Annalise enjoyed every second of being lifted around and not having to do anything for herself. She could get used to this. Why did you need to use your feet when there was a strong handsome knight around to lift you? The queen had many knights around her and if Annalise were in her place, this was how she would travel around.

She sat quietly on the bed after she was placed there and watched Rafael look around his clothes for something she could wear to bed. Annalise started to imagine how hilarious it would be for her to wear something belonging to him. He was like a giant compared to her.

Rafael picked out a light blue cloth shirt with long sleeves for Annalise to wear to bed. It should reach her thighs and the long sleeves would help to keep her warm from the cold night air since he had to open the window so it wouldn’t be too hot inside when he added a little wood to the fireplace.

"Thank you," Annalise said, accepting the shirt to put on while Rafael went to dry himself, and get dressed for bed.

They both weren’t too wet after waiting around and Annalise being wrapped up in a big blanket.

Annalise put on the large shirt and then sat back down on the bed to fold up the blanket she would hang out in the morning. It was too late for her to go downstairs to let what little water she got on it dry and she was not dressed for anyone else’s eyes to see.

Annalise placed the folded blanket on the floor right in front of the bed so if she woke in the middle of the night and tried to sneak away, she would see it and take it up to hang outside.

She hugged her feet and watched Rafael open the windows to bring the cold night air into the room. Annalise turned her attention from Rafael to the fireplace straight ahead of the bed.

There wasn’t a time she could remember when she would have to place logs in the fireplace for Rafael to have warmth throughout the night. He seemed to prefer his room being cold but was using the fireplace because she was there. He must not know that there was no fireplace in her room so she slept with cold air filling her room.

Maybe there was a time she did start a fire for him but the events of tonight had her mind all over the place. She was not back to thinking straight. How could she when it wasn’t that long ago she had his length in her mouth and she swallowed a bit of his seed?

Now that they were out of the bathroom, Annalise couldn’t believe it was something she had done. Not that she regretted it, but it was interesting what could be done in the heat of the moment. How she could think to do that without any hesitation.

Annalise was so distracted by what she did not long ago, that she did not notice Rafael come to stand in front of her.

Annalise only snapped out of her thoughts when she felt his hand in her hair so she looked up. "Sorry. I was distracted. Should I have crawled up to the pillows first? I was waiting for you to be done," Annalise said, turning around to go up to the pillows first.

She could not get over how large the beds were compared to the small ones she used in the servant quarter in the manor.

"What would it take for me to have a big bed in the manor like this? One that is not your own," she added before Rafael could mention using his bed.

Rafael walked to the side of the bed to join Annalise. "I would need to take back that I would never court one of my servants and make it known that I am courting you. It is that or me saying that I want my maid to be near, but I would rather not have to hide my relationship with you. I want it to be known so that anyone trying to mess with you knows that they must look forward to me dealing with them."

Annalise sat up instead of lying down since there was a lot she wanted to talk about with Rafael.

"If the maids were to know that we are together, they would find it hard to work with me. Many will fear that doing the smallest thing near me would end in them being fired. I would have to quit working as your maid," Annalise said, imagining a future they both did not need to worry about.

"Good," Rafael said, laying flat on his back. "I will take care of you."

"Rely on you for money? Then when your feelings fade away I will be back to searching for work and by then I would be known as the woman who lost your favour. I don’t need that," Annalise replied.

Rafael doubted that what he felt for Annalise would go away. "There has never been a moment when I am not amused by the times you do, Annalise. You don’t need to worry about me stopping liking you. If for some reason I did," he added to help rid her of her fears. "I would make sure you are well taken care of."

Annalise saw the perfect opportunity to mess with Rafael and make him panic. "Does that mean the women before me are being taken care of? I am not one to share the man that I am with."

Rafael wasn’t falling for the dangerous trick Annalise was playing. "I do not take care of them. Why would I?"

"Because you also liked them-"

"Whoever said my feelings for the women in the past and you are the same? I liked them, but I am certain I have started to love you. How could I not?" Rafael said, reaching out to Annalise to hold a few strands of her hair to play with. "You don’t need to worry about other women. Those relationships have long ended and you are the only woman on my mind."

Though Annalise figured his feelings might be beyond liking her, she didn’t expect to hear that he was certain about loving her. What was with the world making everything so complicated?

Rafael flicked her forehead to stop her from overthinking. "I do not need you to push yourself to say you love me. I am going to wait just as I waited for you to confess that you like me. I have a feeling the next confession will be worth the wait as was the first."

"Why are you always so positive?" Annalise muttered, going down to lay beside him. She needed some of that positivity because she was so negative when it came to the future.

"It is something I inherited from my mother," Rafael answered, pulling Annalise closer to him so she could rest on his arm.
