The Knight's Mysterious Maid-Chapter 235: Dresses, drama, and tears (5)
Chapter 235: Dresses, drama, and tears (5)
"Annalise."
Annalise ignored Rafael calling out to her to make her stop to listen to whatever he wanted to say. There was nothing she wanted to hear from him right now and she wished he would take a hint to leave her alone.
He was to be accompanying Siena tonight so why was he bothering her?
Annalise walked faster, off into the garden to hopefully lose him once she entered the tall bushes. Why did he continue to play with her? This was not fun. One minute he liked her and then another he was dancing with another woman, getting a kiss before everyone. What ever happened to Rafael who liked to avoid women?
"Annalise."
This time, Annalise stopped and turned around to face Rafael. She felt something moving down her cheek, but she refused to believe it was a tear. She would not cry over Rafael because he was here with another woman. She did not like him. She could not.
"Annalise, you shouldn’t walk off alone," Rafael said as he neared her.
As Rafael reached out to try wiping away her tears, Annalise grabbed his hand and pulled him as she did with anyone else when she wanted to flip them. He had this coming for all that he was doing to her.
"Shit," Rafael cursed as his vision changed from Annalise to the grass as he fell and then the sky when he landed on the ground and looked up. "I deserve that."
"You do!" Annalise agreed now. Flipping him on his ass helped to bring some sense back to him.
"I didn’t mean to make you cry. The kiss was not my doing, but I have a feeling it wasn’t only the kiss to upset you," Rafael said, watching Annalise wipe her eyes. He wanted to make her jealous, but seeing her cry was not something he wanted to see often.
Annalise had not cried when the maids were picking on her nor did she cry when one wanted to kill her. There were many things she could have cried over, but he never saw a single tear leave her eyes. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
"I’m sorry," Rafael apologised.
"Why are you apologising? I am the one to flip my employer. I should be begging you for forgiveness even though you do deserve it. Why aren’t you getting up?" Annalise asked, inspecting his state to see if she had injured him. She flipped him without thinking about the fact he could get hurt.
"My back," Rafael said, continuing to lay on the ground. "I need a moment down here."
Annalise went down to the ground to check on his back. She saw the way the knights fell during training. The little flip she gave him should not be enough to have him lying so still. He should be used to this pain since he was a man used to being struck by something.
"Let me see," Annalise said, trying to roll him over to see what damage she caused him. If she injured his back, Beatrice’s excitement would be gone and it might ruin the relationship they had. As much as Beatrice liked her, Rafael was always first. "Your mother is going to strangle me to death or flip me harder than I did to you."
Before Annalise could roll Rafael onto his side, he reached up to place his hand behind her neck to keep her still.
"There is nothing wrong with you," Annalise realised.
"I’ve hit the ground harder than this in the past and I was lucky that you flipped me when you reached grass. You keep surprising me to be able to flip a man of my size so easily. Is this normal for you or did your anger give you strength?" He wondered.
He had another reason to not make her angry in the future and it dawned on him how serious she was when she spoke about flipping someone. It was another rule he needed to add to the list of things she shouldn’t do unless she was in danger.
"I invited Siena to the ball to make you jealous. I hoped that it would show you that you do care for me. Then I learned that she might be part of my uncle’s plans. I don’t care for any woman more than I care for you, Annalise. I would have loved for you to be my partner at the ball. See you right after you put on the dress and be the one to put on the necklace for you," said Rafael.
He slipped his hand off her neck to hook a finger around the necklace to pull it forward to get a better look at it. "I hope it is to your liking. Nothing suited you better than a sword. I’m sure you could find a way to stab someone with this."
"I could," Annalise nodded her head. "If I stayed angry with you any longer, I might try to injure you with it instead of flipping you."
Rafael let go of the necklace and palmed her cheek. He felt the slight wetness from where the tears fell. "Why did you cry?"
"I do not know. My eyes did that on their own. It had nothing to do with you," Annalise said, looking away to wipe her eyes. The tears fell even though she didn’t want them to.
Her answer to Rafael wasn’t honest, but she wasn’t certain if her tears had to do with Rafael coming to the ball with Siena, the fact that she was the only person present to not know how to dance, or the kiss Siena shared with Rafael. There were so many things to make her want to run and the moment she got outside, the tears started.
Annalise rested her head on his chest. What would her father think of her if he were to see her like this? Crying over a man who might one day join the border guards to try killing them? Annalise turned her head to face Rafael. It was quite unfair that because of a war started by people who were long dead, she couldn’t go after what she wanted.
The man beneath her made her feel things she shouldn’t feel for him. It was becoming hard to ignore that there was something between them. Eventually, she had to leave without a word of goodbye to Rafael. She had to go back to where she belonged and Rafael would be focused on protecting his people again.
There were only a few days of them being near each other. Annalise knew that it was wrong. That her people might judge her, but for these few days, she wanted to go after what she desired. Enjoy the moment while it lasted. She spent her life thinking of how to keep her people safe and now for a small time, she wanted to think of herself.
"I do like you," Annalise confessed. "It is both annoying and frustrating that I can’t help that I like you. You must remember that I warned you not to love me."
Annalise sat up and gently moved her thumb over his lips to wipe away the kiss given to him by Siena. Once she felt that all traces of the kiss was gone, Annalise palmed both sides of his face and leaned down to kiss him.
She would enjoy their last days together by giving in to her desires.
