Chapter 74: Arrival On Zen Utopia

Light flooded in as he stepped out of the spacecraft to see a flood of colours. The sky was covered in rainbow clouds that looked like cotton candy, the air smelled cleaner than it did on his home planet or on the spacecraft, there were hundreds of skyscrapers across the massive city, that was the capital of the planet.

And many signboards that beamed brightly the most eccentric one was a massive signboard with the words "WELCOME TO ZEN UTOPIA" written in gold. In the sky were flying space cars hovering a few hundred meters from the surface of the planet, they followed an ordered line in the sky. When Alto looked closer he could see a glass like road in the sky that criss-crossed across the city, leading across the city sky.

It was unlike anything he had seen in his life, the city was bustling with life and people in every corner. There were activities everywhere he looked and a over that was the huge holographic screen-like version of a banner that featured the competition.

It carried the image of a silver mech and on top the name. "ZEN UTOPIA INTERSTELLAR CUP", underneath it were the images of six young adults, on the left were three figures who were aspiring mech pilots that would be the future generation of mech pilots and in the right were the three supposed who would be the future of mech designers. Apparently they had all graduated at the top of their class in the Zen Utopia University that bred the greatest of minds in their world. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

If they were entering the competitin Alto knew there would be more from the school too, and if they grew up on the planet it meant that they were well versed in the their fields and able to predict what they might have to face in the competition.

"Why are there mech pilots on the banner too?" Alto asked.

Eleven gave him a cold stare and said. "Did you really think the mech designer section was the main event of the show? No one wants to sit down and watch mech designers build a mech for hours or watch them solve equations, but everyone wants to see mechs battle each other. This competition will feature both sides, the mech designers shine by designing great models which will be piloted by potential mech pilot candidates. It’s opens up and revenue for young geniuses of both field to be discovered and offered contracts by big organizations."

Alto felt even more excited, the anxiety of earlier washing over him over the thought of competiting on suc a grand stage. "I never once thought I would compete in a world stage."

Eleven ruffled his hair and continued forward. "Calm down, you haven’t even passed the qualifiers yet. There’s still a few days till the competitin starts, best we get you signed in now." Eleven led the way forward, thought a huge crowd in front of them.

Alto followed while clutching to the bag he held by his side, the bag contained some clothes he would wear over the first ew days of the competition. And also a few things he would need, navigating through the crowd of people and trying not to lose sight of Eleven. He had never seen such a huge crowd of people all in one place, it was clear that the competition drew a crowd from many star sectors across space. Alto doubted he would be seen as a star in front of them, he wondered what it would feel like to be a star. After a bit of careful thought he knew it would not be his cup of tea, he was no people person. He liked his privacy just like the professor, now that he thought about it, he wondered if he would see her in the competition.

Alto was shoved aside by someone in the crowd, curses began to be rained down on him. "Get away from me you rat." "Damn, it’s a vermin." Alto did not understand the insult but he did not have a time to, that was when he noticed that he had lost Eleven in the crowd. He froze and looked around him, his heart racing and his mind panicking. The curses rained on him by the people was enough to add to his confusion.

"Stay calm Al, it’s not that bad. You just have to find your way to the location, I have a brochure at least. Or I can just ask for directions." He thought to himself but one look at the people told him that they would not be giving him directions anytime soon. They seemed disgusted by him for some reason, but he did not know why. He did nothing to attract any one to his presence other than to just exist there.

Alto shoved his way through them trying to make a path forward in the direction where he remembered seeing Eleven a few seconds ago. Pushing his way through only brought him more rains of curses on his head, "What the hell is wrong with these people?"

Just then he felt a soft cool touch on his wrist as a hand grabbed him, the touch caused his body to feel electrified for a few seconds. He was not sure if it was shock or something else, "What now?" Alto groaned internally.

The person that grabbed him stepped closer to him and whispered into his ear, "Pay them no mind, these people see themselves as saints they distinguish themselves from others just by their clothings. But even they are seen as the scum of Zen Utopia." It was a soft female voice, that carried a sense of purpose.

Alto looked to his side to see a young woman slightly shorter than he was but a bit on the cubbier side, she had long blonde hair and had a beautiful face, broad shoulders and a dark complexion. Alto had never seen someone of such beauty and from he complexion he could tell that she was not from anywhere he had seen before. But then again he had not been anywhere but planet Soto, she had one of the happiest and cutest smiles he had ever seen. She wore a white shirt, brown jacket and thick black trousers. On her back was a small silver heart shaped bag, her eyes were blue and full of vigour.

"Come with me, I’ll get you out of this hellhole." She said without giving him a moment to talk before pulling him along.

Alto called out to her. "But you don’t know me."

She chuckled and gave him a short but simple reply. "Do I need an excuse to help a fellow mech designer?"
